Fitbit Update 5/22/2019:

Hey all,

Today we've released the latest Fitbit for iOS app version 2.94. In this new app version, we've temporarily disabled this notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized." We will continue to assess all the user feedback and work to improve this experience.

Please update the Fitbit app if you haven't yet. I'm now closing this thread from further comments. Thanks again for all your feedback!

Fitbit Update 5/13/2019:

Hi Everyone- Based on customer feedback, we are working on an update to the notification and hope to have further information to share soon. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your feedback.

Fitbit Update 4/18/2019:

I've merged a few threads together. Receiving the notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized" after closing out of the Fitbit app is expected behavior. The Fitbit app needs to run in the background in order to enable features like all-day sync and notifications. If you are double tapping the home button, or swiping up into multi-tasking, and then swiping to close the app, you should see this message.

I appreciate your feedback and have passed it on to the team. I hear that you are unhappy with this notification. Our team is aware, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future.

We'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products. We're sorry for any trouble.

So helpful - thank you! I wonder why the folks at Fitbit haven’t figured out this trick and inform users instead of just telling people it’s expected behavior and there isn’t a fix planned.

I've only had the updated app installed for a couple of days.  That unnecessary alert irked me immediately!

True - I can understand showing it once.  There may be users that may find that informative message useful after all (but once only!).

However, for the users that have come here to vent their frustrations - it's annoying as they have just purposely closed the application because they don't want it running for a while!

Using an iPhone here, so like others - I've adjusted notifications within iPhones settings.

Settings -> Notifications -> Fitbit

Here, I left allow notifications enabled.

But disabled sounds & also set the 'alert style when unlocked' to none.

That way - I don't have a fear of missing out, should there be an important app message when the device is locked 🙂

Hopefully though, the annoyance can be straightened out.

Fitbit would have then have listened to the constructive feedback from their uses & actioned accordingly!

I very disappointed in this notification, especially as i have the all day tracking option turned off specifically and on purpose. I will be getting rid of the product if this is not fixed soon. Beside it being incredibly annoying - it also feels a bit of a slimy way for forcing data capture onto your less tech savvy customers, given the inability to turn off the notification, or still forcing the notification even when the reasons you give for the notification are deactivated by the user. Thumbs Down, Fitbit. 👎🏻

I am unsatisfied with all of your answers.

You have blamed it on many settings of OURs such as double clicking home button or having the background on/off.  It all began with your update.  So quit blaming US. WHy can't your fix this.  It's very annoying.

As a user, I can't think of a single reason that closing this app should generate a notification to re-open the app. For the last two years, with two different devices, I've been using the Fitbit App in the exact same way -- open it when I want to sync, log anything, or track exercise, close the app otherwise just like I do all others -- to save battery on my phone and because it makes things uncluttered. Having this notification pop up, triggered by the app closing? Is beyond irritating.

I don't want to turn off all notifications from the Fitbit App. I like the encouragement of "almost there!"

But this is one of those user experience things that borders on completely ruining it for me. No App gets to tell me how to use it for my best experience. I decide that, not your developers.

If the App needs to be continually open so that "All-day Sync" can work? Then reword the notification! "All-Day Sync requires the Fitbit App to be open" or "Device will sync when App is reopened" triggered only IF the user has "All-Day Sync" switched to "On". If the user doesn't have "All-Day Sync" set to "On", then it should never matter if the user closes the app.

… at least give us a “don’t show this notification again” option!

Great news.  I managed to fix this annoying message by banning the fitbit app from having notification privileges in my iPhone settings.

I agree with all the other post this notification needs to be removed as soon as possible. Incredibly annoying and unnecessary. I’m tempted to remove the app and just use my Versa. Plenty of other apps that can track and sync with no annoying push notifications that can’t be turned off.

I’m sure that someone thought this to be a wonderful idea but frankly, you are alienating your clientele and that should be sufficient to make you realise that you should roll back to the previous version of the app. I had no problem receiving notifications in the past, I’m not interested in all day sync so please resolve this situation

I have a Fitbit Blaze and can’t receive any notifications from other apps and text messages. The same notification comes up on mine as well and I have an IPhone XR with the latest update. I tried to reinstall the Fitbit app and it worked for a bit and now I’m getting that notification about data again.

I agree with others: this is incredibly obnoxious. However, I have found that if you turn the sounds off in notifications, you get this message but not with sound and not as a dropdown. I tested it by turning it back on again (got the message) and then off again.

Why is the app suddenly messaging me to keep the app open? It just started a few days ago. I don’t plan to keep the app open: am fine with periodic synchronization. The notification is not possible to deselect in the app menu. SUPER ANNOYING.

Please stop sending this message to users. It is REALLY annoying and slowly making me hate the App.

Thanks
