Fitbit Update 03/09/17

Hi everyone -- Some good news to share! This issue should now be resolved!

If you were previously experiencing this issue on iOS, please try it again as our team has pushed out a fix. Feel free to give me some feedback about your post-fix experience. Thank you for your patience as we worked to get you all back on track.

Fitbit Update 2/28/17
It was recently brought to our attention that some iOS users are experiencing their mile splits for GPS workouts don’t add up to the total distance of their workout. Our team is aware of this issue and is currently working towards a fix.

I'm getting this with my 2yr old Flex. I've got an iPhone 5, iOS 10.2.1 with the Fitbit app. The total distance looks right, but when it finishes compiling the data and shows the split bars, the splits don't add up to the final total; it chops off 10-20%.

@ELasater So I think the next question is : Does it say anywhere in the FitBit instructions that we need to initiate the run on the device itself instead of in the app to ensure proper tracking? I believe not. If not, then we don't need to accept this as the way to use the device from now on because we did not bought in the device being aware of such limitation - leaving FitBit to fix this so we can track start my GPS run on either device or app or FitBit officially communicates that there is no way to fix it AND offer all the users that are unhappy with such a refund AND add instructions detailing this on the box for every device.

@DerrickS : Do you have an update for us?

@SunsetRunner It's a top priority to fix this bug and I anticipate it being resolved in the very near future. There currently isn't an ETA for a fix, but our team is working to resolve the issue ASAP.

Same issue for me, way way off the last 3 workouts since February 22. Today, I ran 8.66 and it shows that on the splits but total at the top shows 2.73. The steps are the appropriate amount as well.

@SunsetRunner - What the manual says or doesn't say isn't the point of my post.  The purpose was for troubleshooting and demonstrates that it's reproducible under specific circumstances.

I would be very curious to know if others are able to replicate this as well.

This is competly broken for me

Just getting back into running and on 2 3KM runs this week, it has logged a distance of 0.2KM and 0.3KM when my splits add up to over 3KM.

Makes the whole thing pointless if you are bothering with distance. However, looking into the TCX file, it looks like that does have the correct distance for the run in the total.

<DistanceMeters>3452.73328413433</DistanceMeters>

So I guess the app is just being dumb for some reason

Has anyone done the Fitbit update (Friday 3rd) and has that fixed the problem of recording the distance?

@EllieRoss

Are you referring to the Fitbit iOS app update?  If so...

I updated the app yesterday.  No change in the inaccurate logging.

Apparently this was NOT one of the bugs that was fixed.

I've been having this issue for the last week. My thread on the forums was recently merged with this thread. New behavior: my Fitbit app is entirely unable to acquire a GPS signal now. Strava has no issues at all, so it's gotta be the Fitbit app right?

1. What type of iOS device are you using? IPhone 7 Plus
2. What iOS version is your device running (ie iOS 10.2, iOS 8 ,etc)? 10.2.1
3. Were you using the Apps GPS, Surge's built-in GPS, or Charge 2/Blaze's Connected GPS to track your workout? Charge 2's Connected GPS/ App's GPS
4. Does force quitting and reopening the App help? No

Same here - issue started on Feb 22.
Ex: It is not logging steps taken correctly. It logged me taking 20,194 steps this day and I know for a fact I didn't because I was sick that day. Since then my steps have been off. I take an average of 150-200 steps in the morning getting me and my daughter ready for our day and the Charge 2 will record 750-900 steps before we walk out the door. I've had a Fitbit Charge and now a Charge 2. I don't believe it is the phone because I've gone from an iPhone 6s to a iPhone 7 Plus since February 22nd and I'm still having this issue. Sounds like a system/software glitch because it's effecting so may people in so many ways. I don't think the issue is with anything we're doing it's with the Fitbit software our devices use. This has just started happening to me. It shows the mile splits accurately but the total is wrong. I've been using this for well over 3 years.IMG_1053.PNG

I'm currently training for a half marathon and I've been having this problem since 26th Feb and it's still doing it despite updating to the new iOS version. I have since downloaded MapMyRun as can no longer rely on my Fitbit charge 2 - really disappointed! Hope this gets fixed soon.

I have an iPhone 7, iOS 10.2.1, a Charge HR and was using the Fitbit app's GPS tracking functionality.

This thread has users with all types of iOS devices, Fitbit devices, and iOS versions.  Pretty sure the issue has been narrowed down to the app itself by now.

Same issue. And I agree that this makes the fit bit worthless as an activity tracking device. This is my sixth fitbit and may be my last if this is Not fixed quickly.  It seems like it has problems when you do laps or any sort of backtracking on a run. IMG_4777.PNG

Clearly the splits don't add up to the aggregate. Which also messes up the pacing.
