For those still experiencing this error, have you tried what @billiejwilhelm suggested and have your mobile device to "forget" your tracker:

I updated the app to version 2.40; however, when I still receive the error when I try to update my Fibit Charge 2. Does it only fix the issue on certain Fitbit devices? I would appreciate any assistance that can be provided.

yes as of today date 25 Sep 2017, my flex 2 and my iPhone 6 (updated to their new IOS) are not talking to oneanother, however just to confuse the issue my flex 2 is talking to my iPad mini (yes updated same time as iPhone).
I have uninstalled on the iPhone twice, still having an issue with the Bluetooth not talking, however the bluetooth on the iPhone is working as it is still talking to my car radio.
Hoping someone fixes this error soon.

Hello. I have updated my fitbit app but I am still receiving the "18" message. I am also showing an "empty battery" message although I have a full charge.
After updating the app, I powered my phone and fitbit off. I tried updating while my fitbit was docked.
Please help! Thank you.

Hello,
Haven't used my Fitbit in months and wanted to get back into the habit. I wasn't able to sync my Fitbit on the app. It would just be stuck half way for a very long time. So I decided to update my iPhone to the latest iOS and also update the FitBit app. After updating, I noticed I can update my tracker which I thought might be the issue to the app not syncing through. However, halfway through updating my tracker, I received an error 18 message and now my charger is just stuck with a bar and an error icon. I cannot use it to track anything at all. Please help.
