Step streak reset to zero on iOS Fitbit app

ANSWERED

My streak was broken 8 days ago despite me not having failed my step goal. I believe this was caused by me lacking internet connection so the app not updating with my full steps. I would like to resolve this and restore my streak.

I am on a streak that should be more than 1000 days. I leave the app on all the time and it syncs every day, before and after hitting my 10,000 steps. Lately it resets the streak counter after a few days. The syncing plays no part it the resets for me.

This has been a problem for over a year. You would think they could figure a fix out by now.

Agreed!!!

Best Answer

It happens periodically, and has nothing to do with the app or user equipment.  No one asked for the feature from what I have seen.  Some see the streak some don't, and those that do, have it reset for no apparent reason from their end.  Maybe Global Batch processing abends before all records are updated.

I think this is a reasonable, honest answer.  The far too common fluffy Thanks for letting us know, now "reset everything" for no known reason, and have a nice day is the worst "best" answer for me.

I just lost mine this week. I was on day 952!!! 😭

Unfortunately, it seems no one at FitBit cares about this issue. Quite disappointing.

Fitbit recently started rolling out iOS version 3.86 and this morning when I Met my step streak goal for the day I noted that it still has not been made retroactive. I have over 1000 days in my steps Drake and the step Street counter when it appeared this morning said I had 295. I have been lucky that it has only reset twice

I am on my third charge 5 in 6 months. It constantly quits working and doesn’t count days. They keep saying we will just replace it but this is crazy. 6 more months until I can use my outside warranty and get my money back. I am DONE with Fitbit after 7 plus years. It’s a shame that Fitbit has fallen so badly.

I cannot believe that it's been at least 8 months since this issue has been reported and there is still no fix. Hey Google, the step streak is really not that complicated to compute...

Best Answer

You are so right. It isn’t complicated and they clearly don’t care about the people who have purchased their product. I have gone over a year without missing a day with 10,000 steps yet my app tells me I have a step streak of 43 because it keeps resetting to 4 for no reason.  I would bet that a kid in a high school app class could give them pointers on how to get the app to count properly.  1,2,3, 4, etc

May 28th I hit 1,000 days ... quite proud of almost three years of 10K+ every day.  Two weeks ago, I got on a "new tech kick" and upgraded from a Charge 2 to Charge 5 and a new iPhone 10 to 14 within a day of each other.  For 2 days, my step streak remained intact but noticed recently it had reset and today is at 12 days.  The history of each day still shows all steps and all 10K+ going back multiple years.  I presume I am SOL?  Supposedly the step streak is driven by my user account which hasn't changed.  Disappointing that this is a known issue going back more than a year and no resolution from FitBit?

Welcome to the club. Yes SOL. I assume Fitbit knows it has this problem but do not wish to solve it. I am very brand loyal, but when my current device dies, never another Fitbit. Equipment is good - but there is no customer service.

Sorry to say that you are SOL. However, congratulations on 1,000 days this is awesome! I’m heading for that goal myself. I keep track of my days just by asking Siri. I put in notes my first day of 10,000 steps and check occasionally.

Good luck and keep it up!

Hi!  My Fitbit reset my step streak, likely due to not having internet connectivity when the day rolled over (I was on a flight). I’m pretty upset about it as others are, frankly.  There should be a way to manually reset it, just like one can add work outs if one didn’t have their Fitbit on during the workout.

Have you guys figured it out?  How about include it in the next update!? I had over 400 days and even that was incorrect for the same reason, but I  would like at least that back!

Not having Wi-Fi should not be a problem. I do not have Wi-Fi in my home and use a cellular connection. I rarely go places that have Wi-Fi and if it is available, I choose not to use it for security reasons. Over the years many Fitbit Community members have suggested reasons for, their step streak, resetting, including traveling between time zones, not updating it, their data daily, phone software updates, Fitbit software updates, and many many more reasons. My software has reset twice and my total days is somewhere over 1000 and it has been just over 300 days since my last reset. I Fitbit had a wonderful idea when they developed their trackers and software, but their execution has been flawed. My daughter was part of a study and was given a Fitbit tracker that died after about a year with a black screen issue. She liked that tracker, and when the free one had died, she replaced it With a new one. This week, her tracker, which was just over a year old went black screen. My wife’s tracker, which is about a year old or slightly more went black screen this week also. Add about the two-year mark my Fitbit charge to screen cracked. The Fitbit charge four I replaced it with had the strap connection point on it break just after 18 months. Now I wear the Fitbit charge four in my sock during the day and used to charge to because the strap still works on it at night. Fitbit and Google software developers Have done little to make the iOS software, friendly for those who are disabled, including people who are blind, and have reading disabilities. I hope you will be able to understand this message because I have dictated this on my iPhone. When I spoke to my daughter today. She told me that she is waiting for her new Apple Watch to be delivered .

Thank you for your reply.  You focused on the wrong part of what I asked. I had both no internet and no cellular connection and even with Bluetooth on my app said it couldn’t sync (the reason the app offered was a pop-up no internet connection warning).

That’s really beside the point- I was just offering a possible reason why my steps didn’t refresh before midnight- and when they did the following day, it had unfortunately reset my stepping streak, even after the day in question synced and I was 1000s of stops over my daily goal.

My MAIN point and question was if there was a way to manually bring the stepping steak back to the correct count.  Looking through threads and so-called “best answers” that provide no help, it seems that many experience a reset on their streak even though they maintained their prior streaks without break.

Yes, I agree, there is not enough about the app that is helpful to people with use differences.

I was really upset to lose my streak! Over 900 days with 20,000 steps per day! I have an Apple Watch and when my Fitbit dies I’m not sure that I will replace it. I didn’t care for the Apple fitness part for the Apple Watch but I guess I can get used to it. Are you listening Fitbit? We are growing tired of little or no support and I also have had to replace my Fitbits on average between 12 and 18 months.

Hi, I often go on a cruise with my Fitbit where I have no cell service or
WiFi and when I come home my step streak is still correct. Then at other
times while home it will reset. This problem is over 2 yeas old and Fitbit
has never released a fix or suggested a solution. Since they are merging
with Google I do not think this will be fixed in the current app. Maybe in
Google fit?

Many people have speculated on the cause. I myself believe it has something to do with interruptions in Internet access, be it Wifi, Cellular, or simply a phone with a dead battery. It could even be a random server-side hiccup that has nothing to do with our client-side devices. To my knowledge the company has never confirmed the cause, not have they indicated a solution is forthcoming or even that a solution is desired. I don't think they care about this problem at all. We have to face it, that while this thread has fourteen pages of upset customers who may never buy a fitbit again, it has no meaningful impact on the bottom line of a corporation of this size. Threads like this are generally only visited after a user has experienced a problem, after the sale has been made. Leave an Amazon review or a Tweet about your concerns and it will have more impact than complaining in this thread.

Thanks for the encouragement...I travel occasionally for work/pleasure and have found myself pacing hotel hallways and/or the parking lot at 11:45 PM to get to my 10,000 steps!  I'm a numbers junky and FitBit gives me that number to chase as an incentive.  Best of luck to you!
