Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article.
This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.
These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.
If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
5. DOUBLE-CHECK
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:
- DO NOT DISTURB
This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:
- On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
- Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
- With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab
- Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
- Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
- Sync your device.
Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Hi Fitbit,
I'm posting again the exact issue I'm facing. I've tried all the instructions and the app freezes when I click on notifications.
I bought this fitbit yesterday and am planning to return it if this issue isn't fixed soon.

I have a Fitbit versa and ever since the iOS upgrade, I have not been able to receive text messages on my Fitbit. I have tried every guidance that you have provided and nothing works. I am extremely disappointed! I have been a faithful Fitbit user for years and now I am extremely close to giving up forever on this brand if this can’t be resolved soon!

I’ve done all the steps but still am unable to get text notifications unless my messages are set allow them message preview. I don’t understand what’s so difficult about allowing text messages to show up on the Fitbit with just the sender name like it used to. I don’t want the message previews to show up until I’m ready to read them, as I’m sure a lot of others do also.

I updated the iOS to the latest version and followed the directions Fitbit gave for fixing the notification problem. I did the steps a couple of times including turning notifications on and off on my Charge 2 a couple of times. Notifications are back, but I wish I could say which step actually did the trick. It’s frustrating having to repeat the steps. I hope I don’t lose notifications again when a new the iOS is updated again.

I own a Fitbit One and loved it and wanted to upgrade. Purchased Inspire HR yesterday. While I don't consider the notifications feature essential, I tested it out to make sure the tracker worked as advertised.
- IOS is 13.2.3
- Fitbit App is 3.11.1 (912)
- iPhone Bluetooth recognizes the Inspire HR as a device and connects. Info shows that Share System Notifications is ON.
- Notifications on the watch are ON.
Everything looks like it's spot on UNTIL I select Inspire HR on the IOS App and click on the Inspire HR Account. I click on Notifications and all it does is spin. Then I get the following error message: "Bluetooth Pairing Failed Call Notifications and All-Day Sync are disabled for now." I'm assuming that's where the disconnect is.
I won't be using this feature as I would like to extend the life of my battery. However, as I paid for the product, I would like for it to work as advertised. I would love to see a resolution to this. I haven't fully tested all of the features but have read others' comments regarding the issues they are experiencing. I'll update if I experience the same.

I am on my second Fitbit Ionic because my last one stopped working after 1 1/2 years. I liked it well enough to purchase another a few months ago. Again I was very happy with the features and how it worked. The last few weeks I have had ongoing problems with it syncing with my Iphone 7. I bought a new Ipad and it does sync with that at this point. I called and spoke with customer service 2x this week and did everything they told me and it did not change. I figured it was time to upgrade my phone so have an Iphone 11 on the way. As I read all of these posts I am losing hope. Currently I am not receiving notifications of calls or texts and depend on that feature. I am very frustrated with this problem and have tried all the steps recommended on the phone and in this stream, updated my Ionic this week, have my phone updated...I love my Ionic when it is working correctly and certainly hope that it soon will sync with my Iphone and receive notifications again.

I just bought for me and hubby, and it arrived yesterday. Fitbit app is new (ie: latest level) and my IOS is updated.
Tried all these steps, messages still don't appear. Phone calls and appts do, but no messages. Looks like plenty of other fitness type trackers just gained a lot of new customers.

I have been with Fitbit for about 3-4 years. I never had any issues until now. Its been several months now and no update from Fitbit on the IOS 13 issue. I tried everything on my Fitbit Blaze and my Iphone XR and nothing has worked. What I do not understand is why Fitbit is selling their products even though they are having issues with IOS 13. Good luck everyone cause customer service is not helpful at all. They are just doing they job.
Who ever purchased a new Fitbit be aware that you ay not able to get a refund.

Still not working. I receive phone notifications but not text on my Charge 2. It stopped working after. I upgraded to IOS 13. I have followed all of the suggested steps repeatedly. Today I 1) removed the Fitbit app from my phone and re-downloaded to ensure I had the correct version. 2) Confirmed IOS 13.2.3 3) Disconnected my Bluetooth connection to the Charge 3) Re-started the phone 4) Re-started my Charge 5) Disabled/enabled All Day Sync and Notifications in the Fitbit app. Nothing.

So this isn't really fixed. The only way to see text notifications on your FitBit is to allow your iPhone to show a preview of the text messages on your actual phone when they come in. Before, you didn't have to have the "preview" messages on your phone to be able to see your text messages on your fitbit. I do not want previews of my messages showing up on my phone screen for privacy issues.

I have found the same solution as Angi77 posted:
