Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

I just did what you did and it wasn’t working so I did it a second time and now it only works if I have the messages notification as showing in my phone which is not what I want. I don’t like my meaaages being displayed to everyone in my phone. Before this issue my texts on my phone did not show what was being texted but now if I want it to work on the Fitbit device I have to.

This is still not working.  When do we expect a solution.

I have done all of these steps multiple times with no change. I am still not receiving text notifications, only calls.

I have been directed to this thread (again), and still have received no resolution to the issue despite following all the recommended steps. I have a Surge and experienced no issues with receiving notifications (calls and texts) on my device prior to the IOS update in Sept or October. Immediately following the update I received no notifications (which I thought was weird but figured it was a syncing/connection issue) until I attempted to resync to no avail. Calling customer service and utilizing web chat gave me no further insight as I was again redirected me to the website/forums via staff. Are there any additional steps that can be taken to resolve this issue other than being redirected again to the help forums of which I’ve already attempted all recommended steps with no improvement. I realize the Fitbit staff are working hard on this issue which I greatly appreciate, however, as it has been several months with no additional suggestions or fix, I wonder if we could please get a more clear picture of when they expect this issue to be resolved? As the holidays are fast approaching, if there is no change, I would prefer to shop other devices so I may remain connected through my devices as expected on purchase. Thank you

Here's what I did to fix my phone:  I went through all of the steps above, but the notifications still didn't work.  I went back into notifications, and looked at notifications for text messages.  There were a couple of new settings there, so I turned off "Show in CarPlay", and changed "Show Previews" from "Automatic Default" to "When Unlocked".  I turned both settings back on, and notifications started coming through again.

Hopefully, this will help some of  you.  Good luck!

I did that this morning and it’s still not working.  Have been through their “fix” instructions so many times and still nothing. Very frustrating.

I’ve tried it several times. Now my versa won’t connect to WiFi. When is it going to be fixed? I think I have the first versa. Is it happening to all the versa not working?

Restarting my iPhone caused the Bluetooth to drop the connection to my Inspire.

I’m thinking of doing that also. Is Fitbit doing anything to fix the issue?

Not yet. And when I walked away from my iPhone, the Bluetooth connection dropped again!

I spent 200$ on the Fitbit versa in April 2019 and in October 2019 I stopped getting notifications for my text messages on it. It shows when I get phone calls but thats it and I think its crap. I specifically didn't buy an Apple Watch because I was swayed to the Fitbit versa. Now I am fully regretting the decision. I just did a firmware update on my versa and its still not resolved. I dont want to leave Fitbit but I also dont see any improvements. How are you going to make this right, Fitbit?

I agree. I have recommended Fitbit to others because of the notification function. No more until this gets fixed!

@thejennduran when I put my iPhone message notification on when unlocked, I get my Fitbit notification. Sucks but at least ur text won’t show until u unlock the phone and it’s working that way until they can fix it back to how it was on never setting.

I have a SE as well and can’t get it to work. I am over it and will be switching to an android and a Garmin if they can’t fix it.

Mine did the exact same thing after I updated my iPhone.  I tried their recommended fixes, but it didn't work.  I was able to get it to work by going into Settings, then into Notifications, then to Messages.  There was a new option called "Show in CarPlay", and another one called "Show Previews". I turned them both off and back on, and my messages started showing up on my fitbit.  Give it a shot.

Thank you. I am afraid to update to the newest iPhone update because last one messed everything up. I am a firm believer that they push those updates to make you upgrade you phone. The updates make the old phones not work well. I am not ready for a new phone and my next one definitely will not be an iPhone. If I get brave I will try your suggestion.

@SunsetRunner

On iPhone go to settings - notifications - messages - show previews - when unlocked. You will start getting alerts after that on Fitbit but only see the message on your phone when you unlock it. I have iPhone 11 Pro Max on newest update and Fitbit newest update with an Alta and it’s working fine this way until they fix it.

Have restarted all devices, deleted and reloaded app and followed all instructions for the non-syncing issue.

Nothing happened, and now Inspire HR is not even found by Bluetooth on iPhone, Ipad or Macbook.

Any further suggestions?
