Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article.
This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.
These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.
If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
5. DOUBLE-CHECK
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:
- DO NOT DISTURB
This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:
- On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
- Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
- With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab
- Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
- Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
- Sync your device.
Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

I have mine set to show previews - when unlocked. That way only you see the message on your phone when you unlock it. I have iPhone 11 Pro Max on newest update and Fitbit newest update with an Alta and it’s working fine this way until they fix it.

Nope. This is clearly is because of your app and frankly the fact FitBit wasn’t prepared for iOS 13 shows a lack of effort to maintain features for customers. Between this and selling out to Google, who I don’t know anyone that trusts them with personal info, I’m likely going to save up & get an Apple Watch.

I tried everything that was suggested to be able to get my texts on my versa. When is this going to be fixed? I didn’t spend the money to get if I can’t use all the functions.

I followed each and every step 3 times and it’s still not working. My screen stopped displaying when I turned my wrist or automatically showing notifications even before I updated my iPhone. I’m quite frustrated at this point..... this also isn’t the first time I’ve had this issue.

I have the Fitbit versa. I have had the issue of not receiving text notifications and phone call notifications since October. During the update prior to this one, I was at least receiving call notifications but was still not receiving text notifications. After the most recent update I am not receiving either text nor call notifications. Is there any way I could send this back to buoy and get a new one???

I have tried all the steps multiple times and text messages still not showing on my Charge 3. This issue has been going on for months now. Surely there’s a solution??

I have tried the steps over and over and over again for months now. This is extremely frustrating to spend a good amount of money on this device and not have all the features work. What are you guys going to do to resolve this??

I was also facing the same problems, so I followed the steps of this user in another topic and it worked very well for me. Now I am getting all my notifications back again.
thank you
I hope it also helps someone else
sorry couldn’t find your original post to see what you have done but just wanted to know have you done these steps:
turn off Bluetooth
Delete your Fitbit from the Fitbit app
delete the Fitbit app
restart your phone
add the Fitbit app back and
Re sync your watch and reset up to the app. Once the watch is synced to the app hold the button and n the watch to display the notification, also check the settings on the watch to make sure the vibration is on.

My screen is still black. I can see it is charging. But it is fully a dead screen. Please tell me how to fix or get a new one? This is sad. I am missing my fitbit! 😞

If you go to message notifications and show preview set to always you get message on the watch and preview of message on your phone. If you set it to “when unlocked” you get the message on your watch and just the banner notification on Your phone when it’s locked. This is good because it doesn’t show the preview on the phone unless it’s already unlocked.

I have just updated to 13,3 and still do not receive text. I have even called support and was told fix doesn’t work for everyone. This is so frustrating. Should I just go with Apple???

Mine still isn’t working. I receive all notifications except texts. I updated both iPhone and app to most recent ones. My Versa 2 is only 1 week old . I’m super frustrated and am thinking of returning it.

I did find a solution that works that you may want to share.
Go to settings on your phone
Go to notifications
Go to messages
Go to show preview
If you select always -on - you will get the message on your watch and on your phone
If you select when unlocked - you will get the message on your watch and the banner on your phone if your phone is locked.
I chose the when unlocked option.
IT WORKED!!!! Woo Hoo.
