Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article.
This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.
These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.
If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
5. DOUBLE-CHECK
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:
- DO NOT DISTURB
This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:
- On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
- Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
- SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
- With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab
- Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
- Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
- Sync your device.
Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Still not working after 3 times. I’m really frustrated that Fitbit wouldn’t let this be known before you upgrade. I just purchased the Versa 2. If I would have known this I would have gotten an Apple Watch

I just bought the Versa 2 as well. Mine wasn’t working until I changed my message notifications. Notifications- messages- show previews. I had to change to when unlocked. I had it on never. Then I restarted both and it worked. It hasn’t worked since I bought it almost 2 weeks ago and now it is.

Perfect, thanks. It was changing the message setting to “always allow preview” that fixed it for me. A bit annoying though as I don’t like to have my previews turned on. Is this something that will be fixed in a future update? (Previously, you didn’t have to have the preview set to on)

These steps have been up for months and have not changed. There have been a few apple more updates from apple and at least one from Fitbit since then, but still these steps do not work. What else can be done?

i would love to follow these steps but the initial attempt at updating my versa led to an inactive charger and versa. now the device is dead, and the charger won't even connect with it to charge. i bought a new charger on amazon (delivery tuesday) hoping it's only the charger that needs to be replaced and not the fitbit. really frustrating.

Finally receiving text messages. Thank you for all the suggestions. Here’s what worked for me
settings
notifications
messages
show previews when unlocked
Although I do not like my texts to display on my phone screen, I am getting texts alerts on my Fitbit. Hoping this is just a work around and Fitbit gets alerts fixed completely the way they worked before ios13.

Today I went into every app on all 3 devices and changed notifications to always. Still not working. I can’t even do a factory reset because my inspire never leaves the login screen. Except to smile at me when I want to toss it in the trash.

Can you shut it down and turn back on or no? I shut my phone and watch down and restarted after changing my notifications. It didn’t work until I did that. I’m sorry. It’s all extremely frustrating.

Shut what down? I rebooted my iPad after changing the notifications. How do I shut down the inspirer? I pressed the button on the side until I got the dreaded smiling face again.

on my Versa I have to go into settings and click about-shutdown. It’s different than pushing the side button. I didn’t know that until I googled how to shut down Versa 2 Fitbit. I doubt it would matter if it’s an iPad instead of a phone.

After my Versa Lite tried updating FRIDAY MORNING with no success, unable to use the device at all, FOUR live chats, and just finished another chat for the second time this morning, I'm sharing with everyone I know to STAY AWAY FROM FITBIT!! Ridiculous that I was told "higher department", seriously what is that, is "working on the issue and are aware". The higher department, I was told cannot in anyway respond to issues but, know what's going on and are working to fix it. My device has sat on the charger for 3 days and the screen tells me in millions of languages to "add the app" all the while sitting on top of my iphone while the app keeps repeating that the "update has failed". FIX THE ISSUE and get off your butts, Fitbit. And, because it is an app issue and not a device issue there is no option for replacement or refund. I have had a fitbit since 2012 and this has been the worst, worst service I've ever experienced. For Fitbit to keep telling customers to restart, remove, reinstall over and over again is ludicrous. There are IT professionals by the thousands, hire them and have them fix your issue, FITBIT and stop jerking your customers around. Yes, it's just a tracking device, but being treated by a business like I'm some kind of idiot is unacceptable. Done, thanks for reading.

Only my iphone app seems to be finding my fitbit ionic (and not consistently finding it). My iphone is not updated for the most current iOS (I have intentionally not updated it since I did update my ipad air and my fitbit won't connect there after I did the software update). The iOS on my iphone is 12.4.3. Additionally, when I try to connect my ionic to the fitbit app on my computer, it can not find the device either (and I have the dongle plugged in to my computer). On both my ipad air and my computer, it suggests that there is a firmware update available for my ionic, but since neither can find my device I can not update it. When I get on the fitbit app on my phone, it does not show that there is a firmware update available for the ionic. What's the deal?
Since I normally sync using my ipad and the firmware update was appearing there, I thought maybe this was the problem causing my syncing issues. However, since I can sync inconsistently on my iphone and there is no apparent firmware update appearing there I don't know what to think. Why do I see different indications regarding ionic firmware updates on different devices?

My Fitbit versa was receiving notification fine until I updated my iPhone to 13.3. I restarted iPhone, restarted Fitbit, disabled/reenabled Bluetooth, shared/unshared,checked notifications always on. No go my friends, any iPhone ios update I do always breaks notifications!!! 😩 ugh!!

Can we please get an official response/update from the moderator and Fitbit?! This is ridiculous. Everyone has tried your steps countless times without any resolution of the problem. How is this acceptable after 2-3 months?
