Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

I have been a Fitbit user for 6 years. But sadly this new update has me rethinking my choice. I would suggest returning it and trying for a replacement. But there are so many problems with their devices right now, you may want to consider another tracker option. I have suggested fitbit to all of my friends, but not anymore. Good luck.

Stopped working again.  I keep doing the steps, will work briefly, then stops working.  The sleep tracking hasn’t worked since 12/12.  This is very frustrating.

I haven’t been a Fitbit user for as long you have but I do love my Fitbit. I just hate that the iOS update just isn’t compatible anymore. Frustrating. I really do enjoy my Fitbit.

All of my notifications are working except my text messages are not showing up. I triple checked the app and my phone and followed the troubleshooting tips to fix the problem with no luck. What do you suggest I do now?

Still asking that same question! I honestly wished it was fixed. They are so many problems. Fitbit knows.

I’ve tried all these recommendations and none are working to fix my text messages. Calls will come through but text won’t on my Versa .

@Cigi33 I saw that you didn't want to have previews set on your phone. It is possible to turn of notifications on the lock screen and still receive notifications on your fitbit.

In this case your phone will still vibrate and the notifications still go to your fitbit, but you won't actually see any message notifications on your phone.  I understand it's not the same as before, but it might be better than nothing.

if you want to try go to:    settings->notifications->messages.  Under alerts it gives you three options (lock screen, notification center, and  banners). Uncheck lock screen.  You will still want to have show previews enabled, but with the lock screen turned off it doesn't matter.

I have an iphone se and a fitbit blaze. I believe that you had a versa  and i saw some people saying you have to give access to your contacts (thats not something i had to do on my blaze.

I can confirm its working in my scenario  and if need be will post a youtube video confirming.

I found a possible solution for some of you...Follow all steps as suggested by FitBit support. However, when you go to Notifications>Messages, select Show Previews> When Unlocked AND on the Alert section deselect Banners. This way the previews won't show up when locked AND when it's unlocked the banner with the actual text preview won't show because the option to show a banner has not been selected. If the phone is unlocked you still get a sound or a vibration that let's you know a message was received, but the banner doesn't show. I've tried this for a whole day and it's let me receive messages back on my FitBit Alta HR. However, what I also found out is that if you swipe down the notification center when phone is unlocked, you will see the preview of the message. If you also deselect the Notification Center in the Alerts option for some reason the messages will not be sent to the FitBit anymore.

By the way, I've been having the same issues that most of you describe. I patiently waited until today,  when I received another fitness tracker (Amazfit Bip, a much cheaper version of an AppleWatch), in hopes of getting a tracker that would receive messages. Turns out that I got the exact same issues as with my Fitbit Alta HR and the solution I described above also fixed it. So this may mean that even if one gets a different brand name, one may still end up with the same issues due to the iOS update. Unless, of course, you buy an actual Apple Watch.

Fitbit was always so good for customer service but I am so annoyed and angered that after months of not receiving notifications, spending £200 on a new one and it STILL not working, FitBit customer service has FAILED to help its customers.

I am disappointed to say FitBit has let its customers down and I can no longer be loyal to the brand I loved. The product is not fit for purpose anymore, the company hasn’t bothered to solve the issue. I am upset that a company so large no longer cares for its customers.
Why doesn’t it bother you that your loyal brand users are having trouble- the notifications problem has been an issues for months and hasn’t been resolved. Why is this?

Thanks so much. I will definitely try this solution and pray it works!

I’m so disgusted and disappointed also, I had to take time off work to go and it’s BS! I also called Fitbit they told me Call back they haven’t found how to fix! My watch keeps loosing power and time and date are all wrong! All these expensive gadgets and NO RESOLUTIONS Time to LOWER the prices because products aren’t worth S$$$ if they don’t work!

Stopped receiving text notifications on my Alta HR about 3-4 months ago when I updated to iOS13 but I would still get call notifications. Planned to upgrade to either an Apple Watch or Fitbit smart watch in a few months anyway so after the troubleshooting didn't work then, just gave up. Bought myself a Versa 2 for Christmas and connected it yesterday. Still no text notifications. Went through your troubleshooting steps 4 times and now, not only am I not receiving text notifications, my phone says my Versa 2 is connected but doesn't have the "circled i" symbol next to it and the app doesn't recognize that it is connected. I'm so upset I trusted this brand (I thought I could - I've had a fitbit for 5+ years) and threw away the packaging so I can't return it. Merry Christmas to me 😞

I will say that I tried one more time and my notifications are working. What seemed to do the trick was making sure that I had always :heavy_check_mark: For notifications of texts.
