Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

This was the answer!!! I couldn't get any text to pop up on my versa lite.  I went to Settings - Notifications - Messages - Show Previews... I had it on "Never" and switched it to "Always" and received my text right away.

i was thinking about the Apple Watch now. BUT does anyone know if it keeps up with your steps as good as a Fitbit though?

I tried this just now and it worked!! Thank goodness. It was driving me crazy not getting message notifications. I rely on it for work.

Charge 3, iPhone Xr, app and IOS are all updated.  Followed detailed instructions four times.  Still no fix for the text messages.  I sure wish I had my Charge 2 back because that worked flawlessly.  Please fix this fitbit!

I have the iPhone 6s.with the software 13.3 and my fitbit Versa lite which was one of 2 replacements doesn’t even sync with the app, but my original one does. It’s weird. 🤷🏻‍:female_sign:

It is CRAP that we can't use DND etc on our phone because the fitbit app is not up to date.  Frosts me!

Super annoying. I've tried everything and it still doesn't work. As someone who is hard of hearing this is the main reason I bought one of these. What is the remedy here?

???  I am sorry.  This is really not acceptable.  And I am sure they are continuing to sell these.  Really out of integrity.

I had tried all of the recommendations from Fitbit with no success. Just did what Castillosl recommended above and it is now working again. Hopefully it works for you too....

I removed my Fitbit device from the app. I then logged out of the Fitbit app. I then deleted the app from my iPhone. I then forgot the Fitbit device in my iPhone’s Bluetooth settings. I also did a soft reboot of my iPhone (press up volume once, press down volume once, hold Power Button for approximately 10 seconds).

I then installed the Fitbit app again and went through the steps of reading my Fitbit device to the app. Notifications now work again! 😊

For those of you who said you were working - what does that mean? Does it mean that your watch device vibrates and you see the message? Or does it mean you see a message on your phone and have to pull down the message from your watch front?

I don’t understand how some of us are working and most others aren’t? Phone type? Watch device?
And where are the Fitbit moderators?

No vibration, no message.  Nothing.  The phone works like a phone.  No alerts to move, etc.

Iphone 8 IOS v 13.3.  Versa.   I have tried all of the fixes on the community - and those related by Fitbit - deleting app, device, etc.  Going into iPhone settings and checking notifications, DND the whole bit - several times.  Nothing works.

It counts my steps and sleep but notifications are not working.  Moderator is MIA as this was reported early DECEMBER.  I DM'd them on Twitter but my guess is that they are flummoxed.

It is DISGUSTING.  My notifications say - nothing new here.  Wish that were the case, my phone calls and texts are exploding today.  And I am setting phone alarms on my phone to move - I get wrapped up at the computer that is why I have a Versa that alerts me.

I am now getting the vibration and seeing text come through on my Fitbit for the first time in a couple months. I have a Fitbit Alta HR and iPhone 8. I followed these instructions posted by another person...

So glad some of these workarounds are working out for y'all, such as changing the notifications to ALWAYS and deleting the app + rebooting. I tried these (and more!). I was hopeful, yet no luck.

This process doesn't help at all. I am not receiving notifications stills and if I do they're very delayed. This is unreal.

Tried doing this twice and it still isn't working. Is fitbit offering an exchange or something for a different product? This is unacceptable that one of the MAIN features does not work.
