Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

This worked! Mine is working finally.

I’ve done this twice to no avail. I do not receive text messages, call notifications or even the reminders to move every 10 minutes til the hour. When I go through these steps, my previous Life360 notifications will start rapidly showing up but if I get a new future notification on my phone, it doesn’t show on my Fitbit.

My original fitbit died and I was sent a refurbished replacement so I don’t know if the refurbished device is junk or it’s the IOS update. Very frustrated! Fitbit, are you working to correct this? Or is this an Apple issue used to force people towards the Apple Watch?

@Bernarom29 What did you do that worked?

Best Answer

Considering that the iOS 13 beta was released in June, I’d expect this to be working by now.

 Fitbit, get your act together.

It did not work. I followed the steps in the original posts twice but it did not work.

That did not work for me tried everything with two iPhones and two devices will not pair so unusable tried several times rebooting devices, uninstalling and reinstalling the apps turning Bluetooth on and off. I am sick to death of Fitbit their support is rubbish instead of acknowledging they have an issue they ignore even screenshots and send you links to stupid how to articles that don’t bear any relationship with the issue. They should be escalating and sorting this compatibility issue out

Same here except I think I’m try #5 plus I got the new Charge 3 (due to needing a new one) and hoped that I wouldn’t have had the text message issue, but I still do.  Frustrating!

I tried everything 6 or 7 times with two fitbits my husbands and my own with iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 using iOS 13.3 the devices will no longer pair

I received a response back from support. They are working on it. That’s what we have been hearing since the end of summer.

This still isn’t working for me and I’ve been trying forever to get my texts and calls.....now what?? I even got a new Fitbit thinking that would help but still doesn’t work.....

I have followed all the steps and I am still not receiving messages notifications- call notifications are working but that’s not what I need. It is ridiculous the amount of time it is taking to sort this

That is a exactly how I feel and what is happening. I don’t care about the calls. I want texts.

Doesn't work for me with my FitBit Alta either.  Very frustrating as I don't have access to my cell phone during the day at work, but had piece of mind in an emergency my kids could text and I could at least quickly read it & step away if needed to reply.  A lot of money wasted now 😞  It's a shame I really enjoy the features, tracking etc...but no way am I spending that much again for the features (main one I wanted was text options) to not work!  Thumbs down 😞

Tried the Versa reset for text messages on my iPhone 7 at 13.3   4 times now. Ready to go to the Apple store for a watch...

K Kate!! Still nothing... done EVERYTHING.. even the Bluetooth restart. All the reboots/restarts... do this do that... everything but wear a tutu while doing. Tired of getting the run around and having to jump through hoops. At some point will there be a replacement offer for all of us that are still having troubles with a watch that promises something but can’t deliver??
just asking!? It’s been months and sounds like multiple people have been patient. Would like to hear some sort of good news!!
love the Fitbit but seriously .. a working Fitbit would be a sweeter deal.

Hoping for some useful answers here,

Naomi

The day my watch stopped working I did a firmware upgrade.  Has anyone ruled out the fact that the firmware?

Has anyone ruled out the fact that Fitbit is now owed by Google?   So something has changed with how they do business.

This is my second and will be my last Fitbit.   Off to the Apple Watch we go!

Thank you so much for posting these steps as I have not been able to get my notifications for text to work in a little while and I could not figure out why. I followed your steps with my Ionic and was able to fix the problem. 🙂

It has been almost 2 weeks and my Versa still will only sync when connected to my charger and computer. I have a ticket in, and was getting assistance. Now it's been days and no response. It is very upsetting that these issues started right after my one year anniversary of owning my Versa. Is there any chance that there is another update soon that will get my Versa back on track. My watch loses hours per day, and is no longer a reliable source for tracking my runs as well. Very annoyed after being a loyal Fitbit customer for many years.
