Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

I am still unable to receive text messages. All other notification and calls work on my Fitbit Versa. I have called FitBit, as well as reached out via chat. I have the most up to date iPhone IOS 13.3, and have done all trouble shooting steps numerous times. Its really disappointing to have this issue as I have been a FitBit customer for years, and relied heavily on the text notifications while at work. I have never had an issue up until around September 2019. Every time I speak with someone I am  told they are aware, but I just have to wait for an update to happen. I would think this issue would have been resolved more quickly as it makes switching to an Apple watch or other similar device more appealing. I am truly hoping a solution can be found soon because I would like to remain a FitBit customer.

I just received a Versa 2 SE for Christmas and I have an iPhone 10 that is running 1OS 13.3. I am receiving call notifications and voicemail notifications, but not texts. I have tried all the steps several times. Is there anything else to do?

FIXED! I am again receiving text notifications! {finally, after several months} Notably, it has only been for the past hour, yet I am wildly optimistic.

Did NOT work (regrettably):

  • KateFitbit's guidance dated 12/4 and 12/16
  • Changing message preview settings
  • Resetting Network Settings
  • Resetting Factory Settings
  • Deleting app & rebooting (see below ... missing steps)
  • So many other things

DID WORK (iPhone X + Versa) - completely severing the Fitbit connection to the phone and starting clean:

  • I placed my watch on its charger during this entire process, for what it is worth
  • iPhone - Settings - General - Storage - (find Fitbit & select Delete App); confirm app is deleted from its usual location
  • iPhone - Settings - Bluetooth - (find device & select Forget This Device)
  • reboot iPhone
  • reboot Fitbit (press & hold left button and bottom right at the same time for about 10 seconds until the home screen appears)
  • reinstall Fitbit app, login, setup, establish Bluetooth connection, etc.

If you do not go through the full initial login + setup on the Fitbit app to reconnect to the watch, it wasn't a complete sever and you will need to redo it. I genuinely hope this works for you, too! *cheers*

same with me. The only way for me to receive messages I have to put my notifications to alway show preview. I don’t want ppl reason my text. It work without showing the previews before the update to the iOS 13. I’m so tired of this. I need Fitbit to get it together. I love my Fitbit.

In the same boat. I’m gonna trying rebooting again to see if that helps. I’ll update if so.

I have tried all of these steps multiple times, and STILL not working. I receive notifications for everything but text messages...which is what I primarily want to see. What is FitBit doing about this issue?

Best Answer
Not the first time I’ve had to do this either. Very frustrating.

Same with me. If I set my text message notifications to always show the preview I can get my notifications. I don’t want to do that. Before the iOS 13 update I had my messages set to not show the preview and I was able to get my notifications regardless of showing or not showing the previews Now. It has to be set on always. I don’t want that. I’m just over it all. I really am.

Are there any updates on when we can expect this software issue to be resolved? I have called and gone through all of the troubleshooting tips and was informed that this is just some glitch in the update you all released. My fitbit functioned properly for about 5 days after I purchased it and has not been fixed for several weeks now. When will this issue be resolved?

Fitbit support is not high quality.  Difficult to get answers

how did you do a factory reset?  I can't get any responses from the FitBit support team.

Good choice to return now.  Later FitBit will tell you it is out of warranty and they will not support the product 🙂

Texts still working?

Best Answer

Hi,

I have now tried the above steps 4 times - twice when upgraded to iSO13 and now twice with iSO13.3.

I can get phone calls to come through, but i can not get text message notifications. The messages do come through, i can see them if i swipe down and one happens to be there, but no notifying/vibration for it.

This has been going on for so long now - what can be done about it?
