Alta Battery draining fast

Can you replace the battery for Alta Fitbit?  Mine is only 2 years old.  The battery says it is charged but after a day and a half dies.  When you plug it in it says the battery is about 3/4 charged.  Fitbit is saying it has to be replaced.  I am not sure I want to continue using Fitbit if I have to shell out $130 or more every two years.

I am so thankful I looked at this group before buying another Fitbit which I was just about to do as my Alta HR will not hold its charge even for a couple of hours and it’s just over 2 years old!  Fitbit it is shocking that your products do not have the ability to have its battery changed. I found it helpful as I am hearing impaired and found the alarm was really helpful but I cannot justify paying the price every 2 years just for this ability.  I am shocked that you are producing throw away products when this planet has passed or near to a point of no return in trying to save it.  I am sorry to say that until your company changes its policy then you have lost yet another company.  I will go back to using my Rotary watch which is swimming safe (which your model wasn’t) and it charges via light absorption. RIP my Alta HR watch 😢

I have the same problem. Always followed best practice, my Fitbit is well looked after. Absolutely gutted to find it’s not holding charge, as soon as I plug it in it says 3/4 full, sometimes 100% full both in the Fitbit and the app but the charge doesn’t last at all. I’m absolutely appalled to find that when researching the problem others are having the same issues and Fitbit can’t do anything as it’s the life span, that’s it. It needs replacing. Had we been informed of this I wouldn’t have built up a collection of extra chargers and different coloured bands as now they’re useless to me too! What a waste of money. I’m totally gutted and appalled.

I agree. I cannot understand why in today’s problems with our environment they think it is acceptable. I really do miss my watch but I have to think about other factors and be responsible for my purchases

If you find another fitness tracker, let me know what you chose. I went with Fitfort. I'm still getting used to it, so I can't say yet whether I like it as much as my Fitbit. But I absolutely refuse to fall victim to Fitbit's shady practices ever again! My Fitfort tracks heart rate, blood pressures, steps, you can select certain activities like biking, running, etc. It does more than my Alta HR did, and I gave about $40.00 for it. 🙂

I have saved my Alta HR, in the hopes that Fitbit will step up & provide a fix for the bugs. I'm not holding my breath though.

About 2 years before I bought my Fitbit, I had bought my Galaxy Gear watch. I haven't used it in awhile but I tried recently. I charged it completely but after a few hours, it was drained.

Looked into Fitbot and just had a reply. Even though they are cheaper you still have to replay the piece once the battery goes and do I won’t be getting it unfortunately. Thanks for letting me know about this tracker though.

Hello
thank you for your mail.
The fitness tracker does not need to be replaced after the battery is used up. Just charge the fitness tracker.
The correct charging steps: pull off the top part of the wrist strap there is a golden usb connection (near the home key button side), which you can plug into any standard pc usb port to charge.
Please make sure its face down when insert to the laptop or pc. If the charging light not on, please upside down to try again.
If you have other problem, please feel free to contact me.

I haven't used my Alta HR yet, so I hope they do get rid of the bugs
before my ordinary Alta finally gives up.

I bought my Alta HR 07-23-17. The past 2 months the charge hasn't lasted more than 5 days. Today the clock was slow. I went to the forum to see about a replacement battery. Now I am disappointed to learn that this is a "throw-away" item. As it is my 3rd Fitbit product, I will not be buying another.

I had the same experience. 2 years battery life. At least Apple has
replaceable batteries. I’d rather pay more up front for something I can use
for years to come than have to replace several times.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @annebarri. Thank you for your reply, @1Hitchp

@annebarri I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing your concern and feedback. I am sorry to hear about your disappointment. Thank you for providing the additional details. Fitbit Alta's battery is expected to last up to 5 days, however actual results may vary because battery life is affected by use and other settings. You can check our tips for preventing battery drain in this help article: Can I extend my Fitbit device's battery life? Regarding the difficulty with clock, I recommend manually syncing your tracker by following these steps

@1Hitchp thank you for sharing your experience and feedback. Our team is always working on improving our devices and user experiences, and your comments are always welcome.

I completely sympathize. My Fitbit Alta hr died inexplicably exactly a few weeks after the year warranty date. I feel the same. I baby my things, only update phones when the software does not update anymore and when I do the guys at the stores comment on how my old items look like brand new. So no, I am not engaging into this disposable Fitbit issue.. no more fit for me if One cannot have access to the battery in case that’s what is wrong, 100 bucks every year to keep that tool for fitness! I do not think so.

Good luck and thanks for posting, it helped me make up my mind.

I believe my fitbit is about a year and 4 months old and it starts telling me to recharge after about 12 hours.

It will get worse and not keep a charge at all within the next few weeks.
As you can see this is a known issue and Fitbit clearly doesn’t want to
upgrade their product to allow for batteries that can be replaced. Buy a
better product that will allow for new batteries rather than an expensive
disposable tracker.

I found a cheaper fitness tracker, that does more than my Fitbit did. I gave just under $40 for it, so if it's an annual purchase, it's fine with me. I've had it about 7 or 9 months now. NO MORE FITBIT FOR ME!!
