Alta HR - Continual Scrolling of Display on Band

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The display on my band is scrolling through time, steps, heart rate etc non -stop. After a certain period of time the scrolling stops but then the display goes blank and won’t reawaken with tapping. Will only come back on if I put it on the charger. Green heart rate monitor lights are always on even though setting is on Auto.  I have tried the reset sequence numerous times and all I get is the Fitbit logo and the battery icon— never get to the screen where the software version shows up.  Put band in rice overnight just in case there was water in battery/case. Fitbit was purchased July 2017 so it’s out of warranty.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Any remedies?

I’ve also had the same issue.  Tried resetting numerous times and running battery down and charging again.  No luck.  Anything else I can do?

I have the same problem since yesterday. Have tried to reset but no results. What can I do?

This is happening to mine now. It even runs through the displays while charging. Once fully charged it kills its own battery by continuing to scroll through the apps. Mine was purchased in 2017 also.

Mine did this also but now after 4 days, it seems to finally be back to normal. I believe it got wet from my sweat while mowing and just needed this long to dry out. I read where someone put theirs in rice, maybe that will help dry it out quicker. Just thought I'd  add my two cents.

Thank you, I will give the rice trick a go. They offered me a 25% discount on a new Fitbit. I purchased one cheaper elsewhere but I’m still trying to resurrect my current Alta HR. I’ve looked at Garmin, they don’t have all the features I like plus my friends and family use Fitbit. I just wish they would last more than 2 years.

Ok it’s been about a week the green Lights on the back are now on constantly and are super bright it lit up the room at night. The battery last about 2 hours. I’m throwing in the towel on this one.

In conclusion! Why is an activity monitor not sweat proof? Just saying, LOL

They offered me the discount too. Mine seems to be working perfectly fine again. It's been on 24 hrs now. Glad I didn't buy a new one right away!

I left mine charging constantly for 2 days, and after the screen gave a static flicker, it started working again. Guess I will put my new one away until the old one dies for good.

Hi just reporting back in case this helps anyone.  Essentially I left it for a day to drain the battery and also dry out the potential moisture that may have gotten into it. Then I charged it up and it worked like normal....until i tried to charge it up again later that night when the scrolling began again.  I figured it was done for and left it for a couple days. In the off chance after a 2 days I charged it up and it behaved normal even got it to re-sync and till today is working as normal.

I am not sure what the issue was exactly to pinpoint as it worked  after i drained the battery then same day went back to scrolling then it died for a few days (not even able to charge) until i plugged it in a did a 3 button restart. to anyone who has this, just think to what might have happened to it I believe moisture is a culprit and so I advise leaving the device for a few days and then plug it in and do the 3 button press restart to revive it.

Hello SilviaFitbit,

While it is nice to have these forums around so the issues people are having can be quantified. There is no response from Fitbit on the problem everyone is having with moisture. It’s only from people like myself offering up our experience. And like I said it was not working and the warranty expired I had nothing to lose. It either worked when I was done or it’s still junk. In an attempt to get help from Fitbit this is where we all landed in a public chat room. And yet all these comments, nobody from Fitbit ever said anything.

except “quote”

“However, I would remind everyone that you did this when the Fitbit Warranty expired”.

The only bit of information on the website was how to push the little button on the charging cable to restart. And I still have no response from Fitbit of my green lights on the back were (I have thrown it out) so bright it would run the battery down in a couple of hours. I would have excepted a $10 coupon towards a new one and a place to send my Fitbit to, so your engineers could dissect it and see what happened so they could offer up a resolution or a design change for future Fitbit owners.

JUST REMEMBER EVERYONE THIS FITNESS TRACKER IS NOT MOISTURE RESISTANT.

Even sweat is to much for the Fitbit Alta HR. So in closing if when I go out I will wear my watch. And when I walk or want to know my Heart rate I’ll just down load the free app on to my iPhone

Same issue.  Continuous scrolling, green light solid constantly on, battery dies.   Rebooted too many times to count  Deleted and added app.  No solution.

Ever since my tracker came back to life, it hasn’t held a charge for long. My battery level runs into the orange and red zones daily, and that never happened previously. I am returning my back up Alta HR, opting instead for a Garmin. If it lasts more than 2 years, they stand behind their product, and their tech support is good..it’s a winner. We’ll see.

My FitBit is doing everything that the person that created the ticket is. All of the screens keep scrolling....I've done all of the obvious troubleshooting at least 10X and it still keeps happening. Is there a "hard reset button"  on the device or do I assume it is dead? Thank you.

Mine is doing the same — continuous scrolling even when charging or when I reset (which I have done many times). I let it die completely and now am leaving it for a few days, hoping it will magically work. This is my 4th or 5th Fitbit and I’m SO disappointed in the lack of longevity of your products. Probably switching to Apple Watch, as I’ve spent just as much on Fitbits garbage products over the last 5 years anyways....

Fitbit HR that I had is not water proof and not even sweat proof try putting it in a sandwich bag of rice and see if that helps. I was working in the yard and my are was all sweaty and that’s when mine started to act up. Then it got worse and then I threw it out.

with a name like FIT BIT and being a fitness monitor you think it would be water resistant

but it’s not! I could see the moisture inside the display lens.

I gave up. Bought myself an Apple Watch and LOVE it. To make a long story short, I wore my Fitbit to keep track of my heart rate as I was having some issues. Heart monitors could never catch my big episodes. Wore my Apple Watch, recorded what was happening, showed my docs. I was having SVTs with AFIB. Meds weren’t working and I had a cardiac ablation last month. So far, so good. Docs were EXTREMELY happy with my Apple Watch and so am I!! It does lots more than just heart rate and has performed better than I ever imagined. Definitely worth the money!!
