Please comment on your personal experience with display visibility outdoors.
I haven't seen this topic discussed on the Board as of yet, and I consider this a very important element of any fitness tracker.
I purchased the Alta in April of 2016. I had owned the Charge but wanted a more slim profile; something I could wear on a daily basis which wouldn't be so bulky. I was thrilled to be using my new tracker until... I, along with several other Alta users, realized that the display was very difficult to read in sunlight.
There was a Board dedicated to this issue and, although there were no promises, there were indications that Fitbit would be looking at the issue.
Fast forward to the announcement of the new Alta HR release. I so badly wanted to hear that this old issue had been resolved on the new Alta HR. With so many complaints about the difficulty in reading the display outside on the original Alta, I actually anticipated that, no doubt, it had been addressed. Wrong.
I spoke to 2 different reps by phone as well as writing a lengthy email inquiring about this "hoped for" improvement only to be sorely disappointed to learn that the issue had not been addressed.
How can such an essential element of a fitness tracker be, seemingly, ignored? I'm still puzzled by Fitbit's lack of interest in correcting this important feature flaw.
I understand that many people exercise indoors, which would negate the problem of visibility in sunlight, but outdoor activity also enjoys a large number of participants.
What has been your experience with the new Alta HR?

I love the Fitbit but my sister has the Garmin and can see the display outside without a problem. I wish Fitbit could fix the display so I can see it when I am outside. Major downfall of the Fitbit!

Hi
I Emailed one of the VP’s at Fitbit and have someone at corporate looking
into my dimness issue. Will report back.
I have the Alta, not Alta HR, but the LED is horrible. If you have all the
latest firmware updates, improvements should have been made; the problem is
they aren’t good enough.

Hi Everyone,
Fitbit Corporate feels that if you are up to date with your firmware that
the dim screen issues will be improved. I am getting yet another
replacement to see if this holds true.

Recently got the Alta HR. The screen cannot be read in even indirect sunlight, so useless for viewing if exercising outdoors.

Outside display needs to be brighter

Just received my Fitbit Alta and the display brightness outside is pathetic. I barely am able to see it when walking much less if I was jogging/running. Not sure if it worth keeping - perhaps a bit of research into competitive items is needed. Disappointed.

Return for a refund and choose something else. It’s too flawed to keep. I don’t regret returning mine.

Took mine back for that reason.
Thank you. I did. No regrets here either.

Please see some of my earlier posts; I’ve been addressing this subject since April 2016 when I got the brand new(at the time) ALTA. I CHATTED, EMAILED and spoke by PHONE to several different people. I ALMOST bought the ALTA HR, being sure that with the new release they would have addressed the problem. I was INCREDULOUS to find out that the ALTA HR Screen Display had NO CHANGES made to it DESPITE the large OUTCRY concerning the ALTA DISPLAY.
Several months after addressing the subject with them, they told me to return the product to the original Retailer (which happened to be AMAZON). With MONTHS having passed, naturally, it was outside of my REFUND REQUEST with AMAZON.
But there was NO OFFER TO REFUND my purchase from FITBIT either.
Is this for BOTH Alta products or just the ALTA HR?

I have the new HR and it's no different. Minimal improvement, MAYBE 2%. Still horrible.

WOW! Thank you, Brenda!!!
I talked to reps/emailed requesting contact with higher-ups with little attention and NO RESOLUTION.
I will gladly (and kindly) share my disappointment with the President of the Company. Thank you for making this possible!
