Alta comes with the ability to set up and receive call, text, and calendar notifications on iOS and Android.

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 11.29.29 AM.pngcontent of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Alta, please see this help page

  • How do I set up call/text/calendar notifications on Alta?
  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby!
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile Dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap "Notifications" (iOS) or "Call and Text Notifications (Android) and then turn on call/text/calendar notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, check out the list of Bluetooth connected devices on your mobile device. Your Alta should appear.
  • How do I view call/text/calendar notifications on Alta?

You can view your notifications when they come in by using Quick View or by double-tapping the Alta where the band and tracker meet.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or selected 3rd party app on Android.
  • Windows Phones do not support alerts at this time.

I just received my Alta but the notifications aren't working.  I tried restarting it as suggested, but that didn't work either.  I'm on an iPhone and Mac and all 3 notifications are set to on, but it doesn't vibrate or show anything on screen.  Also, the watch doesn't come on when you turn your wrist as the features suggest.  I'm frustrated already.  Any suggestions?

I talked to tech support yesterday. I have a Samsung S6 and when I open the app calendar notifications are not an option.  I have call and text notifcations but not calendar notifications. I have set the call and text notifications and they are working great but for some reason calendar notifications are not even an option in the app.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have logged out and logged in.

I have set the default calendar to the calendar that was native to the phone.

I have set calendar notifications to on.

Still the app does not have the option to turn on calendar notifcations.

What is the issue here? This was one of the main reasons I chose the ALTA!!!!

I have setup text alerts, but it appears that some texts will come thru with a buzz, and I can see the message, but 10 min later a text from the same person would not make a buzz? I have tested it, so I am positive I am not just missing the buzz on my wrist, nor have I moved away from my phone. How can I ensure I am getting text notifications consistently?

I work nights and sleep during the day. I set my Alta to track my sleep. Today (first time I have worn it to sleep) it vibrated several times to notify me of texts and calls, and I guess I assumed it would not if I had it set to track my sleep, and also my iPhone is on Do Not Disturb. Help? I really liked my old Fitbit for sleep tracking and now I'm concerned this one will keep waking me up--its already a struggle to try and sleep during the day!

Will the LG G5 be compatible soon? I don't get any notifications 😕 that was the selling point when I bought this! (I had the G3 at the time) I just upgraded my phone to the G5 and am disappointed that it doesn't show any!

I am receiving text messages to my phone, but only the name of the person texting and the first few words of the message then "...". Is that how it is supposed to be or is there a way to see the whole message when I look at my alta?

How often do you update compatible phones?  I just bought my new Alta this weekend and am very disappointed to find out that my LG V10 is not compatible.  The V10 itself is fairly new, but more than 6 months old at this point if I'm not mistaken.  Will my V10 ever be added as a compatible device?

I just got my G5 to connect even though it said it wasn't compatible! Go to
the fit bit app, hit devices, notifications. Check to see if they are
turned on! Mine were not so when I turned them on it worked perfectly!

The instructions read to open the "Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile Dashboard". I have the iPhone 5s, but there is no tracker tile. Please help.

@malma2015 @Cubbifan @nikonmom @MelissaRs @ADees1 @LauraJane1385 That issue is resolved with setting the stock "Messages" Android app as the default app for receiving text messages and also adjusting the "Preview Message" setting in the app setting as I outlined in this previous post.

@rawkfemme @sm84 @MelissaRs @crysstorm This was an issue that has since been resolved. Check out the instructions for getting the option for "Calendar Notifications" back into your app in my post, here. Let me know if that helps.

@DTKeller @jmhenry Your device is currently not listed as a supported device, here. This explains why you're experiencing trouble with receiving notifications. I recommend keeping an eye on the list as that will be updated once your device is tested and added as a fully supported device.

@sbraun8280 @lorif0809 The Alta will vibrate for a notification but you have to interact with the tracker to have the notification display, it will not illuminate the display with no user interaction. For more on interacting with Alta, I suggest checking out this post. Hope you find that useful!

@rbjaramillo Alta is currently only able to show the first 40 characters of a notification. If you'd like to see this increased, I suggest voting for this idea in our Feature Request board. The more votes these ideas get, the more likely they're to be considered for implementation in the future.

@lorif0809 I also recommend restarting your Alta and letting me know if that helps out.

@Maggiemaek You can turn off the call/text notifications by toggling the settings OFF during that time. Hope this helps!

@Exit98 On the iPhone, go to Account > Click on tracker > Notifications

@sm84 @MelissaRs You're welcome! Glad I was able to help get you back up and running!

@MelissaRs Have you toggled on the call notifications option and clicked on "Contacts" as your default call notification app as well?  Check out the screenshot below for the exact location.

I like getting the notifications but I don't know how to acknowledge a message.  Today, I had an appointment and my Alta Band reminded me 4-5 times and I was there.  Is there something like, tap 3 times or whatever to let it know you received the message?

It works for everything else, texts, phone calls but the multiple appointment reminder I don't need.  Just once.

Thanks

Im I crazy or is there no compatibility with the Samsung Galaxy S7? I was trying to find answers to why I can't get my text notifications to work on my Alta, and came across a link to see if yur device is compatible or not and when I searched for the S7 it did not come up. I've tried everything else to troubleshoot what the issue could be, but this would be an issue that I have not control over. I guess that would make sense as to why it worked with my S4 and not the S7 now.

@SunsetRunner It's not listed because we haven't officially tested it, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. If you haven't already, you should check out these help articles:

I kinda feel misled because I was just told that the Alta could show me my notifications but it turns out it's only calls, text, and calendar. Is there any plans in the pipeline for at least social (Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, GroupMe) notifications? Otherwise I'll just return my Alta for a Microsoft Band.
