Alta Notifications

Alta comes with the ability to set up and receive call, text, and calendar notifications on iOS and Android.

This post will provide instructions on how to setup your alerts so that you can see who's texting you, the Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 11.29.29 AM.pngcontent of the messages, who's calling, and what your calendar has on deck for you. For a detailed overview of alerts for Alta, please see this help page

  • How do I set up call/text/calendar notifications on Alta?
  1. Make sure that your mobile device is compatible with our notifications feature by visiting http://www.fitbit.com/devices
  2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is enabled, and make sure your device is nearby!
  3. Open the Fitbit app on your mobile device and tap your tracker tile at the top of your mobile Dashboard.
  4. Tap your tracker tile a second time, tap "Notifications" (iOS) or "Call and Text Notifications (Android) and then turn on call/text/calendar notifications.
  5. To verify that set up was successful, check out the list of Bluetooth connected devices on your mobile device. Your Alta should appear.
  • How do I view call/text/calendar notifications on Alta?

You can view your notifications when they come in by using Quick View or by double-tapping the Alta where the band and tracker meet.

Notes

  • For Android users, please ensure that you've turned notification access on in your settings and enabled each notification in the Fitbit App.
  • Calendar notifications use the native calendar app in iOS, and the native or selected 3rd party app on Android.
  • Windows Phones do not support alerts at this time.

OMG. Put my Alta on his morning for a 5k Miracle babies walk and guess what? Yep, my text came through on ALL of my messages! I hadn't changed anything at all. Ahhhhhhhhh

I am having trouble with notifications on my Alta. It seems to be paired as Alta shows in Bluetooth on my phone (iPhone 6plus), data syncs ok, but when I try to access notifications in the menu or if I try to turn on all day sync the app just shows the little circle next to it (to say thinking/working) and nothing ever happens. I have tried resetting the Alta, removing the Alta from Fitbit app then adding it as a new device, I've deleted and reinstalled the Fitbit app, I've turned off my phone and back on again. Just now got a messag saying Bluetooth sync failed (even thought it says it's connected in the Bluetooth menu on my phone.

Why does the Alta not automatically show Text/Calls/Notifications?  The Charge does, when a call comes in it just pops on your screen.  Half the time I tap on it, it doesn't work so then I tap a few other times and then it skips past it becuase I tapped to hard! Ugh!  I would really like it to just display so I don't have to play these Tapping games with my devise. How can we get this upgraded so I get the option that automatically tells me the Text/Calls/Notifications. Even when I get my step goals, I Have to Tap. That is rediculous!  And How can I get a real person to help me? I did live chat and they rushed me off, no help and said "I will escalate" and then an email comes, with Nothing, just closing the issue! Ugh!

Oops, thought I had it working, followed all those instructions.  Get calls, not text message.  I've ransacked my way through every setting but cannot SEE this "click twice notifications."  I've tried on app, and on webpage, where there's a notifications place I can click once, but see nothing else to do to get it to work....

Lost, no texts.  I have followed multiple articles to click ON all other notifications.  Something else?

@LordElysian We're always working on improving our products and features and I'd love to see your feedback in this existing idea within our Feature Request board. Your feedback is valuable to us!

@Anihan I suggest trying out the troubleshooting steps in this help article. Hoping that's able to resolve the issue you're experiencing. Keep me updated.

@hederleigh Instead of tapping, have you tried using Quick View?

If you prefer to use the same logic for viewing notifications as Charge, I recommend voting for this existing idea within the Feature Requests board, "Show notifications without tapping."

@FrannieB What do you see in the notifications settings on your Fitbit app? Sharing a screenshot would be super helpful so I can give you some tips to try to get you to receive text notifications.

In the meantime, try out the instructions I've posted here. Let me know if that helps.

I had the exact same thing. I went into Bluetooth and then clicked on Alta then forget this device. Then went back into Fitbit app, and it said it needed to pair and it worked.

That's why I'm here to find a solution.  It buzzes, you look and it's gone.

All of a sudden my Alta is not recording my floors - flights of steps taken.  How do I turn this back on.  It is checked to view

@Irish The Alta cannot track flights of stairs as it does not have an altimeter.

@Anihan Thanks for taking the time to share the update with me of what you did to get it resolved! Glad to hear you're back on track.

@hederleigh If you're unable to get Quick VIew and the double tap gesture working, I suggest reaching out to our Support Team and letting them know of your efforts to get it to respond along with the full details of your experience. I am confident that our team will be able to provide you with some further options.

@WRose Let's try unpairing your Alta and then pairing it again using the instructions here. Once you've done that, go through this step-by-step guide to setup notifications again and let me know if that helps get you back up and running.

@Lauressa When the Alta buzzes, you need to either use the double-tap or Quick View gestures to interact with the Alta and view your notifications. Check out my post here for more info on "Interacting with Alta."

@Irish As @Kmransom123 said above, the Alta does not have an altimeter, thus doesn't support the feature of counting floors climbed.

Is there an update coming that will make the Samsung Galaxy S7 compatible with this feature?

That's a hardware issue, not a software issue, so no update will make the current Alta count stairs. The current alta does not have an altimeter. Maybe in a subsequent version or a new fitbit model though...

There's a post somewhere in the suggestions forum about this, you can vote for it.

My Alta will vibrate for a notification and sometimes the text will come up on the display right away but sometimes it's a few minutes after it vibrates and often not at all. This is happening for calls, messages, reminders to move and meeting my step goal. I have an iPhone and have turned all notifications on. Any idea why this is happening??

Well, it seems I'm not alone. I'm not getting notification of text messages or calls. Both are turned on in the app. I'm using an iPhone 5 with up to date software, using the basic iPhone Messages app. My FitBit is connected and syncs properly. This feature was the biggest reason I got a Fitbit. I'm very disappointed.

@Aristillus  On your IPhone, make sure on you have "Allow in Notification Center" turned on.

Hope that helps!
