FitBit Alta crashing when reaching 10,000 steps

My Alta just crashes out about every other day right around the time I get to 10,000 steps.  I have to plug it into the cable and "charge" it to get it to restart even though it seems to have a charge.  Anyone else having this issue?  Is there a solution?

I was told they wont offer vouchers for % off a new one just this morning
so its completely useless. They just want me to return it and they will
send yet another one.
I'm done with fitbit, sadly. I love the product but if they are just going
to keep sending out products which clearly have faults, I see that as
terrible customer service and i cant be bothered.

My Alta just did this again, about 10 minutes ago while on my walking trail. It’s becoming s annoying that I’m about ready to try something else. I’ve removed the device several times from my phone and reinstalled but no luck. It still syncing with my phone right now but not counting

I dont know but I suspect it's a software fault. Perhaps not supported any
more as they dont sell them anymore? I have had two that are not working
and all they do is offer to send another replacement. What's the point? The
last replacement crashed too. I asked if they would consider a voucher for
a % off a new Fitbit (they make money and keep me in the fitbit family) but
they refused and said all they could do was keep sending out replacements.
I said not to bother as the last replacement crashed too.

It appears this issue has been ongoing since at least February. I know Fitbit has discontinued this particular model but for those of us still using it I think we deserve an explanation.  Today I walked for 11km. ...I felt the vibration at 5000 steps and when I got home my Fitbit was dead. I followed all the steps outlined and it finally showed I did 5003 steps.  This is the 3rd time it’s done it.... very disappointed that this company has not solved this issue.  I’ve used your products now for about 5 years but thinking it might be time for a change

I had the same problem. One thing that seems to have helped (so far) is to
set your goal to an unreachable number. Then the fireworks on your Fitbit
don't go off, and you still get the points. I think the fireworks were
causing mine to crash.

My Alta HR crashed just after I hit 10,000 steps today.  It's 15 months old.

I tried restarting it (pressing the 3 buttons) and recharging it (although it was at 85%) but nothing worked.  I called support and they pretty much just said "here's 25% off a new device."  My guess is that since it's a discontinued model, they aren't doing any software support anymore.  I bought a new one.

I've just started using my fitbit again after some time of it being dormant and have discovered the same problem since resuming use.  I'm glad it's not just me with the issue, but also sad that everyone is having the same.  Very disheartening as I try to get back into a routine.

I put something on their Facebook page showing all the problems with the
Alta from this long thread. I hoped it would help fitbit see the problem
and fix it. I got a private response asking for more info. I then got
reminded I had been offered by help desk to send mine back for checking
(and get yet another replacement) and if I wanted to progress with that I
could do that.
Nothing new. Not what i was hoping for.

CeeRee - is yours less than a year old and still under warranty?  That may be why they want to replace it.  Mine was 15 months old so I got the 25% off offer.  There was a 50% off offer but it was only on particular models and colours that didn’t sell well.

Mine is a few years old. I wonder if it differs by country. I am in NZ.
