Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Sure, it grows, but this is a 5 days old statisics, I don't think that in the Last t days it became popular.

I don't uhderstand what you mean. Did I say anything about what I am with or against? I just mentioned that the "Pie is popular now" statement is not realistic. I cant say it is popular with this market share. Nothing more.

I tried to write many helpful comments, but try to be on a realistic basis

In the last 5 days it launched on the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 plus and the Nokia 7 plus. Some of the biggest selling phones in the world in 2018 so yes in the last five days it did in fact become popular

Biggest selling, hehe.

In 2018q3 388million mobile phones were sold. Of that, Nokia is 4.2million. Around 1%.

Ineed a new exercise tracker for our wellness program at work.  Without an ETA from fitbit these are the ones I am looking athttps://www.bustle.com/p/the-3-best-fitness-trackers-12636862. 16 million steps and 5 years later.

I don't get what the point is of the posts about how "popular" a particular phone or operating system is, other than to distract from the actual issue at hand.

The Android Fitbit app has been installed on more than 10 million devices.  Even 1% of that is 100,000 devices.

For FitBit to give hundreds of thousands of customers the finger for three months and repeatedly tell us that the update is that there's no update is appalling.

To write them a pass and make excuses for them is just silly at this point.

Exactly! Android statistics do not matter and obfuscate from the problem
at hand. The issue is related to Android version 9 and Fitbit. They should
have had all hands on deck troubleshooting the problem back in August and
should have brought Google in sooner than later.

I know I've been frustrated with the repeated updates to the application
adding new features and general bug fixes but no fix to this critical
issue. As a software developer I do understand that not all scenarios of
devices and Android versions can be thoroughly tested. But when these
issues do come up they should be addressed in a reasonable amount of time.
3 months is too long.

Also overlooked is the fact that Fitbit had sync problems on Android WELL before Android 9.  The problems themselves are not new; it's just that something changed with Android 9 to make them far more frequent and onerous.

My tracker has *never* synced consistently and reliably with my Pixel, going all the way back to Android 8 two years ago.

Hello,

I had the same issue , so I contacted Nokia Support.

I own an Nokia 6.1 and now with Android 9.

My issues:

- Bluetooth not connecting my fitbit Charge2

- Audio Headset disconnecting every minute.

After talking to Nokia chat Support Meryem, she asked me to:

> setting>>system>>advanced>>reset options>>reset wi-fi,mobile&bluetooth

>  Hold the power button and the volume up button for 10-15 sec, until you feel a slight vibration

This will remove all your setting for Wifi and Bluetooth. Also all Wifis you connected to. (Now audio started working, no disconnects, Fitbit still problems)

Then she suggested also to:

> settings>>apps&notifications>>see all apps>>settings>storage>>cache clear

This did the trick for me. I paired the Fitbit again and now it was working.

Still works since yesterday.

Hope this fixes it for you too!

Cheers,

Clearing all the installed apps cache would work, I usually only clear fitbits cache, but in the past I noticed sync problems when I had a lot of apps loaded in memory.

It might be that Fitbit has a memory management problem but memory management is handled by to OS.

Glad it worked for you @miro

I followed same steps on same models. Not working. Bluetooth is not working properly, need to restart and loose connection to charge 2.

Sorry, missed the reset step. Modified my reply now with the step.

After the first clear you need to " Hold the power button and the 'volume up' button for 10-15 sec, until you feel a slight vibration"

I am completely frustrated with the responses to the sync problem.  I have tried multiple solutions on this forum and none work. I may have seen some symptoms that may help diagnose this further. It seems that fitbit has been aware of the Pie/sync problems since the summer but they don't seem have shared much.

Basically, my pixel updated to pie mid-september and has not been able to sync with my charge hr since. eventually data was lost, the device lost power and the time is now off. Despite several minor updates to andoroid and the fitbit app - nothing.

Thing's I've tried all manner of turning it on/off again type suggestions all to no avail:

  • restarted phone
  • logged out/in to app
  • played with sync settings
  • tried pairing at the beginning of sync per workaround suggestion
  • forgetting/repairing bluetooth pairing for device, then syncing
  • playing with time settings auto timezone, manual time zone, location, selecting random time zone, attempting resyncs, correctingf settings and resyncing again - multiple combinations
  • completely reinstalling app
  • resetting the fitbit

Odd observations

  • device is charge HR but it thinks it's a charge2 by the bluetooth handle
  • got to a state where it appeared to be syncing over a long period of time (several hours)
  • Time on device is off by about 9h 27m, time has been off since well before DST change
  • strangely the phone app does appear to temporarily get the most current days data but it never seems to make it back to the cloud.  Next day I can do the same thing but previous days data is gone. All through this the dashboard (web too) says last sync was mid September
  • Android under previous bluetooth devices can 'forget' device' but 'connect' does nothing
  • the little icon in the upper right that looks like this ((*)) is now blinking

Seriously, I'm about at the end of my rope. A couple of more days and this and i'm basically done.

I have a Versa and Charge 2 HR.  After I updated to Oreo, I started having sync issues.  The sync issues were mainly with the Versa.  It would take a dozen or more "forced" sync sessions before the sync would complete.  Sometimes it just wouldn't work until later in the day.  I finally backed-up my LG V20 and did reset.  Everything is working fine so far.

Still having no luck syncing One with Pixel 2 XL. Cleared cache and reboot
and nothing works.
So frustrating. Reboot will allow it to work for maybe an hour or so and
then stops syncing.

@LanuzaFitbit The thread is 55 pages long so it would be great if you can highlight the workarounds so that we can at least give them a try.

I still cannot sync my versa 2 with OnePlus 6 after the latest Android upgarde.

There's no way anyone can go through 55 pages of random ramblings and users arguing about random staff when there's no official fix yet. The workarounds to test should be somewhere visible, maybe a blog post ?

Thanks,

Versa user here with OnePlus 6.

When I originally updated from Oreo to Pie (9.0.0), sync broke, tried all the troubleshooting steps on this thread, none worked.  Ended up downgrading to Oreo, then everything worked.

OnePlus released 9.0.2 November 1st, I took leap of faith and updated my phone. After the Android OS update, I open Fitbit app, no sync.  Uninstall Fitbit app, went to system bluetooth settings, 'forget' Versa device, reboot phone, re-install Fitbit app. Without pairing the Versa, open Fitbit app, log in. SYNC WORKS!

It has been working for about 1 hour. I enabled notification within the Fitbit app, granted app permissions, notifications are coming through, but they don't pop up on my Versa, I have to swipe down on the watch to see the notifications, and no vibration. Always connected, All-Day Sync are enabled on the Fitbit app.  I am happy for now that at least Sync is working, will mess around with the notification bug later.

Update: Its been 4 days, my OnePlus 6 on Pie 9.0.2 still sync fine with my Versa.

Those of you having issue with your OnePlus 6, try the above steps, it may resolve your issue.
