Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

Yes @tessierp, I did.  It will not go passed that Fitbit logo.  It will blink all day. For the pass 2 weeks i would try  to sync it and be let down again  and would have to press the buttons Again, just to reset it and start over.   My new tracker is on the way for the 5th time.. i will NOT sync it to app until they update and fix the bugs.  When I read one of the us in this community say "that app is fixed",  I will just stare at my new tracker in the box.  Until then, I have to go without my ionic.

I had the same issue with the Oculus Go, but the workaround with the
Bluetooth pair app also worked.

I checked on the previous page, after many tries, then I did:

- In Bluetooth settings, I chose "Forget" my Charge 2

- Turn off the adaptive brightness on my phone.

- My phone was able to connect with Charger 2.

- Add Charge 2 into Fitbit App.

And it was back to work even it took several times.

Can we please get an update here. My Fitbit Tracker is now running 6 minutes behind because it can't sync and I was late for a meeting because it's effectively useless without sync and telling me the correct time.

Android Pie 9, tried everything listed above.

The latest update just took my tracker and knock it out..  like I stated before, I will NOT sync my new tracker until I read in the community that the problem is solved.

This is the issue I get when trying to sync. Bluetooth should be restarted. And so on and on and on. No syncing at all.

I even can't find my Fitbut in the Nokia 8's Bluetooth settings. It looks like Android 9 is not seeing this device at all. It all started devemdec 21st when I got tthe Android Pie update.

Believe me, I understand the frustration. I had problems to get it paired and, once I was able to disable Adaptive Battery for a short period, I was able to pair it again after removing all bluetooth pairing and resetting the watch and then through the app I was able to do it.

After that, I continued facing other issues like, the app would not sync with the phone.. I had to do it manually. Did that for 2 to 3 days.. And now, it starts to sync on its own. I am guessing that perhaps it has to do with the AI in the Adaptive Battery as it learned that this particular app needs to sync at certain intervals.

I don't think it will ever go back to what it was before but, it may get better with fixes, especially the PAIRING.. But for the SYNCING, I think you have to let the AI learn your pattern to make efficient use of the phone's resources.

Hope this helps.

The green sensor lights stopped flashing the moment I tried to sync it with the new update, after 4 hours went by that's when I noticed the fit bit logo flashing.  It's a hardware problem for sure. After the tech looked over the notes in my account,  I was approved for a replacement.   My new Adidas ionic tracker will be here Friday. Having the insurance pays off.  I really miss it. So odd it's not there for me to look at when my dog and I go jogging.  Thank you so much for you input and help...

I need to ask because I'm new to this, what's an adaptive battery? I would like to try to cut it it off. Yourselves and other have mentioned over 4 times..

@SunsetRunner No problem. Adaptive Battery is a new feature part of Android 9.0 which attributes power resources (battery) to the apps that need it the most depending on usage, thus prolonging battery life, in theory.

Here is an article that explains a bit more regarding this feature :

Hopefully the watch you receive on Friday will work. I know what you mean about it being weird.. When the problems started I was thinking of getting something else like the Galaxy Watch. It felt weird not being able to track my gym time. But I didn't want to  change to a new ecosystem, new problems ,etc.. I also like how simple Fitbit is, and the app.

I really think I will contact the retailer and ask them to come with a
solution. That's how it works in The Netherlands. If there is no solution
for this, they have to take my Fitbit back and give me a full refund. The
retailer will have to solve his issue with Fitbit. So, goodbye Fitbit?

Good morning.  I see we feel the same way. I just don't want to learn a new device right now. I love my fit bit ionic Adidas edition as well as my Samsung Galaxy Note 8... they usually work so well together,  but I can say this is the second time my devices ( Samsung and fitbit) are not friends😔 I really hope they can find a solution quick...

Thanks again

I understand perfectly. Changing to a new ECO SYSTEM means you lose what you are used to and, things you like which you may not find in the other, hence starting all over.. Change is good at times but, I just didn't feel like putting all of this money again on something that frankly has worse battery time (most of the android watches and even apple which is worse).

To be honest, I would worry more about Samsung. I was with them before for their phones. And like most big companies (LG, etc), they do not update their phones to the new versions of android as much. They just want you to buy a brand new phone.. Which gets on my nerves. That is why I went with OnePlus which sees regular updates and considering maybe Google's phones in the future but they are just so much more expensive when I can get a OnePlus for half the price with the same hardware quality.

So I do not know how long it could take them to fix any issues they may have with their package of Android 9.0 for your phone. But I hope and feel this is something Fitbit will have to solve with their app and initiate the appropriate dialogs to fix it.

Again you are most welcome.

Fitbit has to come asap with a solution otherwise it's game over. Nobody
wants a Fitbit anymore.
