@RauserI'm using 2.74 and the problem still exists.. It's odd because I only noticed the problem recently when my phone battery was discharging at a rapid rate and getting warm...
The data usage for Fitbit is 37% of my total Mobile data for this billing period.

15 hrs after downgrading to Fitbit App Version 2.72.1 my data counter says 3,28 MB total and no CPU overload anymore.
Can someone please confirm that with the version 2.73 and higher the massive data consumption still takes place?
Then I would actually identify the app version ≥ 2.73 as the cause. It is strange that this behavior did not occur here immediately with the update to 2.73. This version is out since a few weeks, but the data drain started last weekend just before the update to 2.74.

Phone gets very hot and has to "Cool down"
Battery draining faster than it can charge.

Has anyone had success installing an older apk?

I have blocked the Fitbit app from using an internet connection on cellular and allow it on WiFi. Data usage is much less somehow?
I use noroot firewall for Android

If you still have the old dongle you can use that. Otherwise you can buy them cheaply in the Fitbit store. You also may be able to sync when connected to the charger through your PCs USB port. I have not tried that.
The cable for the Ionic/Versa is charging only; it does not support data transfer.

So still no word from Fitbit on this issue today?
I can only imagine the number of people hitting/exceeding their bandwidth cap, or wondering why their phone is dying after a few hours.

I did something similar to keplernl. Connections, Data Usage, Mobile Data usage, click the Fitbit app, turn off switch that says Allow background data usage on mobile network.
I have a Samsung GS6 Active.
OS level is Android 7.0.
Fitbit version is 2.73.
Versa.
I just noticed a data usage warning yesterday, and saw that Fitbit has used 1.47GB of background data since July 1. In June (second half of June, since I just got the thing for Father's Day) it only used about 300MB.
From Friday evening to yesterday afternoon I was in a remote area with no wifi. I will again be away from wifi over the weekend, so I should be able to tell if disabling that option helped.
I have not noticed the battery discharging faster or the phone heating up.

Hey everyone -- I recommend uninstalling and then re-installing the Fitbit app. Let me know if you continue to experience the issue after attempting this troubleshooting step.

I’m having the same issues. I just called and they said it is not the versa and suggested I just log out of the app when I’m not on WiFi (rendering notifications inactive). They didn’t seem interested in looking into it. I’m mad because the notifications are one of the reasons I wanted it! The charge 2 didn’t do this and it has notifications!

@SKBennett that's a lame answer. They always want things turned off. It's dumbing down the features of the phone. But above that - this is draining my battery whether I'm on wifi or not. It's draining rapidly. This is unacceptable.

Thanks @Julia_G I'll try Bluetooth first on my windows 10 PC. no rush anyway, I guess I have a few weeks leeway. Not gonna buy a dongle even if it's only $7 -- Fitbit should be giving me one to compensate for their bug 🙂
