Connectivity difficulties between Aria and Comcast/Xfinity routers

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi everyone! It has come to our attention that some users are experiencing issues with syncing/setting up Aria scales with Comcast/Xfinity routers and we are currently reviewing.

There is a workaround that has helped most users. For this, follow the instructions below:

  • Log into comcast/xfinity account
  • Once logged in,  visit https://internet.xfinity.com/more
  • Edit wifi settings under "Additional Settings"
  • Click on 2.4 frequency edit button.
  • Select g/n, hit save.
  • When the screen refreshes, click edit again, select b/g/n and hit save.
  • Stand on scale
  • Continue with the regular setup process

Thank you all for your patience. Any update available, I'll make sure to share it in this thread.

Hello guys! Our team is aware of the issue. However, a fix might not be available in the immediate future. This is still being monitored and we understand that this is not the resolution that you guys are expecting.

Thank you for your understanding with this.

So JuanJoFitbit -

What would you suggest we do ? Besides investing in another Aria scale ?
And what about the Aria that is now gathering dust in the corner ? Throw
it away ?

So the "Team" has moved from "actively" working on a solution to "monitoring" the situation. I guess this means Fitbit has officially given us the middle finger.

Yeah, I was previously told there would be a fix, and now it won't be available in the "immediate future?" Ugh. I've been using the workaround, but I see why a lot of people are frustrated.

So we basically all just wasted $130+ on a scale we can’t even use, nor get refunded for?? Guess it’s time to get rid of all Fitbit products and switch to my Apple Watch/ etc., to match my phone anyways. Thanks for nothing Fitbit co.

No resolution is not the resolution I am expecting.

I can’t understand how Fitbit thinks this is acceptable.

Would anyone at Fitbit admit the product Aria 1 is obsolete?

Aria 1 was released in 2012, using 802.11b (released in 1999) which was already being replaced by 802.11g (2003) and 802.11n (2009). Yes at that point someone might have said there is no need for higher speed (“its just a scale”) but underestimated the other impact that will make 802.11b to be avoided in the future (security maybe ???)

Somebody messed up looking at the lifecycle of the product. Obviously, routers are upgraded more often than scales. And people rather spend $$ on their networking speed/security than  upgrading their “smart” scale every other year...

“Monitoring the issue...” what does that mean? Count number of people complaining about the issue?

Spoiler
I suspect there will never be a resolution. The scale only supports the 802.11b wireless protocol, Fitbit has chosen to go with the "least cost" approach which is to "write off" the segment of its customer base (or should I say "previous customer") who's wireless networks no longer support the antiquated 802.11b protocol. It was a huge design error on Fitbit's part, probably due to the fact the "bean" counters were involved.

I keep hearing that the issue is that the scale is 802.11b.  But, 802.11x is supposed to be backward compatible.   Isn’f it?  Isn’t the access point capable of early protocols?  In that mode, everything on that channel is dropped down to the lower standard.  But, they all are supposed to work.

Is it a fact that 802.11b can’t run on g or n?  I am not convinced of that.  If it can run on those systems, the issue remains a firmware flash is needed.  And, moat of us do see Aria on our cell phones when we try to aync to the access point.  That means the Aria is negotiating a connection with a more modern 802.11x standard.  I can’t reckon how it can interface with my cell if it isn’t negotiating a lss contemporary atandard with the cell.

What? Are you kidding me? I have to say that I'm very disappointed hearing this, I bought the scales, the original version. I tried to get on it twice today! And nothing!

My Aria stopped synching on July 31 or soon after.   I'm unable to reconnect it to my Wifi.  I am on XFinity.   I am not aware of changes with either Aria or Xfinity.

I attempted to follow the directions by visiting the "More" page on Xfinity but was unable to find "Additional Settings"  Any further updates on the fix?  Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

as a longtime FitBit family - we had 6 watches and 2 scales through the
years. Ask me why we ended up with Apple watches and a Renpho scale. Do
yourself a favor and check out the Renpho scale from Amazon. When I
purchased mine it was $30 - no problems with it ever updating, and it gives
more info then my Aria scale ever did. As an added bonus - when I step off
and step back on again - - I still weigh exactly the same, which wasn't
true with the Aria.

Enough is enough. I am also a Fitbit family -- bought my first watch 7 June 2013. We have purchased 7 Fitbits between two people and sung the praises of the the products to friends far and wide.

This stupid design error of the Aria 1 affects only a handful of Fitbit customers. Isn't there anyone in the customer service / public relations area willing to think this through and replace the scales?

I'd be happy with a $35US "upgrade fee" to the Aria 2 -- including international shipping -- to settle this error. This appears to be affecting Xfinity (Comcast) customers in the US and Ignite (Rogers) customers in Canada who have the latest Internet service and required router. I'd be happy to verify with a picture of the base of the router which shows serial number and model number.

What say you, Fitbit?

I agree an upgrade for a product that isn’t working properly is definitely fair.
