Google Wallet unable to set up

ANSWERED

Hello, I would really like to use the google pay feature on my Fitbit charge 6. However, whenever I am trying to set up a the card, when it sayings contacting/connecting to bank, it then says An unexpected error has occurred, please try again later. Then when I leave the google wallet tile on the Fitbit app on my iPhone, and re-enter the google wallet tile, the card appears. However when I check my charge 6, the card is not on the Watch. Has anyone else experienced this? And any fixes? I am on the latest update on the tracker, and I have tried multiple times to connect the card. (I am using CIBC btw)

Fitbit website forced me to choose a new username to post because of Google account and no longer Fitbit account.

I upgraded to a more current iPhone and Fitbit app did not transfer over smoothly with out some problems.  Apple iOS 18.1 forced me to redo the following above method again to restore my Fitbit with the same data.  I had to delete Fitbit from my current iPhone in the Fitbit app and remove also from iPhone settings Bluetooth, choose forget this device option. I login on the same modern android phone that I had from the above posts.  I login capital one banking app, login Google wallet  and without changing any options but accepting all defaults by each app. Then,  I went to Fitbit device and went to settings to look for restore to default/clear data to remove,  restore Fitbit to the first day it was opened out of the box.  I then log in Fitbit app on the android phone and use my same google account login from the same iPhone Fitbit app email login. I added my Fitbit and type the numbers that appear after Fitbit found screen.  A pop up appears after typing Fitbit number saying pair Fitbit and allow Bluetooth, I was not paying attention for a few seconds so had to press try again to see message. After pairing is done , I synced the Fitbit to make sure everything works. Then, I went to Fitbit wallet tile and enter my credit card info and it says contacting bank, banking app running in the background pops up with message saying google wallet asking for permission to add to Fitbit, message says agree or decline, I click yes and then Fitbit app says Authorization/permission received and continuing setting up Google wallet/Google pay. Fitbit says Google wallet is ready and I go to sync Fitbit and check my Fitbit on my wrist to confirm.  I type in my passcode to check if Google wallet shows up on the Fitbit and I am happy again.  I did not provide the exact wording from each message/notice or setting but most Fitbit users are already familiar with  Fitbit login, pairing and syncing and Fitbit/Google wallet.  I  hope everyone resolves their Fitbit digital payment problem.

Similarly, I have, yesterday, taken delivery of a Fitbit Charge 6 wristband as an upgrade to a basic Fitbit Flex2. The main upgrade for me was to be able to use Google Wallet on the Charge 6 with my Barclaycard Visa Credit card (...xxx3) which I have been already using with Google Wallet on my Google Pixel 8 phone. When I try to add the card to the Charge 6 using the Fitbit app, after putting in the security code, I get a warning "This card cannot be set up for contactless payments. your bank doesn't support contactless payments with your watch on your card. Contact your bank for more info or add another card." After a tel. con. yesterday with Barclaycard, it was suggested that I try with my Barclaycard Visa Credit ...xxx9, and Barclays Visa Debit ...xxx5. The warning appeared with these, too, even the Barclays debit card which is included on the UK list found via the Fitbit website. I need to know as soon as possible whether my cards will ever be usable with this device, or whether I should return it and ask for my money back?

Hey

Same is happening with me. I was able to make it work but I had to get a replacement device due to battery problem and I am getting the same issue with Google Wallet on my new device. Are you able to resolve your problem?

I do suggest to ask for a refund, I had to change card at the expiration date and I Ve been unable to add it again. No master card, no visa, no amex, no debits. In the last months banks have changed security procedures, I think.

It s a shame google doesn't recognize the issue. No customer care service useful .

Google wallet is not available on iPhone which is what I believe is the issue.

I have an Android.

----------

I have tried so many times, reset my account, reset my device, etc. I've just given up at this point.

It just frustrates me that it was working on my Versa 3 and now it won't on the replacement Versa 3.

I think this is a known problem. I came across many posts even from 2023 with the same issue.

This is what I think happens:

- You connect one device successfully for Google Wallet against a Fitbit account and it works

- But when you add another device or a new device(by replacing existing) it doesn't work. It still tries to connect to the first device. Somehow there's a one device per wallet limit and with no replacement. That's my analysis.

My original query:
"I have, October 28, 2024, taken delivery of a Fitbit Charge 6 wristband as
an upgrade to a basic Fitbit Flex2. The main upgrade for me was to be able
to use Google Wallet on the Charge 6 with my Barclaycard Visa Credit card

Update: I have discovered that popular UK Banks Barclays, Nat West, RBS
currently do not accept the Fitbit version of Google Wallet in the Charge
6. UK banks HSBC and Lloyds have started to accept it from August 2024. As
Barclays were not able to tell me when, if ever, their cards would work
with the Fitbit Charge 6, I have reluctantly had to return the device to
John Lewis & Partners for a refund.

This is yet another reason why my next smart watch will not be a fitbit (Nor google) device.

I have been using fitbit devices since they were first released but sadly Google has managed to destroy what was previously a very reasonable ecosystem of devices.

This problem is yet another example of that destruction 😞 .

Update:

Two days ago my device suddenly started giving me notification to setup Payments. I took it as cue and was successfully able to add a payment method to the wallet. Everything worked fine until my device discharged and turned off. Once turned on, back to same problem. My wallet in the Fitbit app has the card but it doesn't show on the device and the App also displays errors that unable to connect to the device.

I'm a techie but I'm unable to find a pattern with this **ahem**ty device.

Also not to talk about battery. I replaced my first charge6 due to battery issues, it was discharging within 3 hours completely. My replacement device lasted for 2-3 days, which was fine. But then after second charge same story and after every charge standby time is reducing. I have used every possible tactic in the book to save battery life but nothing worked.

This device has caused me so much frustration over a couple of weeks. I'm not gonna recommend Fitbit to anyone.

I better buy a MI band than this **ahem**ty product/brand.

Just checked and finally after 4 months of not working, Google pay is now working on my charge 6. No Comms or anything I just tried again as I have done regularly. My wife just got a new phone so I don't know if it's coincidence or not but I guess with all this noone knows anyway so I guess rejoice it's working. Probably worth anyone following this thread to try again

Good luck, Huw

Actually just went through the same. Turns out that my bank supports Fitbit through the Chatge 5, but not the Charge 6. You might double check what they support...

Mine was working then in December it went all haywire and quit working. I have added and deleted and restarted and added and even bought a new Fitbit to be able to use the Fitbit pay feature. But still not working.

Based on my experience, the issue may be that the card owner, bank, may not support the Charge 6. I had this identical issue and called my card company.  I was told the models of Fitbit that they supported and the Charge 6 was not included. They have since added the Charge 6 and now it works. While this may not be everyone's issue, if you get the "unexpected error" the first step to take is to contact the card issue and see if they support the Charge 6.
