I am having the same issue. I have no current messages, but have a red bubble on Friends showing I have 9 pending messages and my Zip defaults to Messages -- instead of 7 Day Steps -- when I access Friends. It's more aggravating than anything else. When I reboot my iPhone, the red bubble disappears the first time I access my Fitbit app, but then it's back again the next time. And the next time . . . .

It doesn't work for me. I can't believe that with this many users complaining about this issue with messages that Fitbit does nothing about it. I guess once you buy the device, they don't care. I am ready to delete the app altogether. Thanks for not taking care of your community Fitbit!

I have messages that are 66 days old and they do not seem to go away. I have never seen a single message be automatically deleted so far, and I have had my Flex FitBit since November 2014. I only started getting messages in the past few months, but they all remain forever.
My guess is that one must start all over, with new account, new email, wipe out all friends and basically go through the entire FitBit set up all over again. Sounds like someone missed the boat on this simple task.
Any help from FitBit would be appreciated as this is beyond ignorant.

I have made Fitbit aware of the fix I found but said nothing can be done on their end until the next software update??
Hope this helps!

iPhone 5s, and it does not require me to login or logoff, so I cannot
logoff. I can't find any help videos on the internet to show me how to make
that process work for me. I have tried completely turning it off and back
on, but that does not work.
I have NOT tried deleting the FitBit app yet, but I might try that. Other
than starting over completely and setting up everything completely new, I
don't see any way to remove those old messages (now 67 days old).
I worked in IT for 40+ years, and if I had ever put an app into production
that has this weakness, I doubt that I would have had the career that I had.
This is an extremely simple thing to include, and FitBit should be ashamed
to allow this weakness in their otherwise fine product. It's just annoying
to me, but not a true issue, so maybe FitBit does not think it's worth
fixing. Not sure.
But thanks anyway for your help.

You stated that Friend messages delete after 30 days. Why on my iPhone do I have 176 messages and the oldest is from 444 days ago?
The reason I ask is because within the last month or so I started to get the read circle by the Friends and it shows 176. It's really annoying because it's not accurate.

question about your particular issue. My issue was the constant numbered red
balloon on "Friends," which I was able to eliminate by going to Account,
then clicking on Log Out of App, then re-booting my iPhone.

IT for 40+ years). This worked. For the life of me I could not figure out
how to log out of the app until I read your instructions. So simple to do
and it worked for me.
Thanks a bunch. It's almost impossible to teach an old dog new tricks, but
you managed to do it in spite of my ignorance. Kudos.

I've just added a new (replacement) Fitbit to my account.
Not only are my friend's messages still there from more than 30 days ago, they persist in showing up as unread.
What can I do? Thanks.
