I was wondering how long do fitbits last before they die, in terms of steps and length of ownership.
I currently own a Fitbit Flex for about 18 months and have logged over 5.5 Million steps. I'm on my 3rd band. I was thinking about upgrading to a charge HR since they have a $50 trade in promotion at the microsoft store. I like the automatic sleep function on the Charge HR, but don't like that you can't change the band.

My flex lasted the longest at 1.5 years.
I bought a charge it died was replaced under warranty. That died within a few months.
I bought a versa from kogan, 7 months later dead, replaced under warranty, 6 months later dead again, kogan replaced it again this time they upgraded me to a versa 2. It died last week after 9 months.
I'm getting a Samsung next week....

I’ve had mine just two months short of a year it’s been fine 3 days ago it went dead it started a horrid noice whilst. Barging then started to get boiling hot . I purchased a new charger still nothing. Omg trying to get a replacement is being an absolute nightmare . I have read the community forum and others saying the same. I’m done with Fitbit . I am so angry . It’s corrupt .

My Versa Lite lasted 14 months and started to lose time. I contacted customer service 3 times and each time followed the steps they offered. I ended up with a completely useless product, won't sync at all. They offered me a 35% off coupon. What a joke. After reading all the comments, I think I'm going with an Apple watch.

And 5 years later there is still no decent response from fitbit. I know the mods have been on here over the years and talked about wear and tear and warranties, but the fundamental basics are that these items are not fit for purpose. I am on my 3rd Fitbit versa and my 5th overall fitbit now. Only one of those was my fault - I fell on to concrete and smashed the glass screen. The rest, my original fitbit HR+ strap bubbled and broke, the same happened to the second one (provided by fitbit customer service team). The first versa to die of its own accord did so less than a year after purchase in Jan 2019, customer service replaced it. That replacement, the screen has just died on it - it sort of glows and still vibrates when you hit random buttons but it's not working as a display anymore. The fitness tracking is still working - it synchs to my phone and I can see my activity there. Contacted customer services, lovely as ever, went through the resetting script - nothing on the versa screen. Conclusion it's f**ked, so they say they'll email me with my options - apparently it's out of warrantee, the replacement was sent out to me just under 2 years ago so it sounds like it lasted longer than most people on here's replacements did, though I didn't use it for most of the last year. I have been offered a discount on a new purchase.
Why would I buy another one? £130 (after discount) for the latest version on the off chance they've upped the technical quality and it lasts more than a couple of years? No. Now if they offered me lease of a brand new fitbit, £130 upfront for the 1st 24 months then with an option to renew to the latest model for another £130 in 2 years, yeah I would probably take it. Why? Because it would be fitbit being honest about the longevity of the product. They last 2 - 3 years at most with normal, careful use. Tech should not be disposable like this, I suspect my screen is totally repairable - as is the one which I smashed, but there are no options to do this.
Yes they do look prettier than the free Samsung Active that I got free with my Samsung phone earlier this year, and yes I MUCH prefer the fitbit app and the connection to my fitbit pals, but no I won't buy another one. I'll put up with the slightly chunky circular face of the Samsung and I'll put up with charging it more often. I won't put up with it failing and dying like a fitbit.

I have the charge 3 for just over 2 years. Once in a while it won't sync but still working. My mom had the charge 3 and it died 3 months after she bought it. Replaced by fitbit and then died within a week. She gave up and bought the charge 4 recently. My brother bought the charge 3 just over a year ago and it just died. Although mine still works I'm now not a fan of fitbit. My kids cheap toys last more then fitbits.

Mine isn’t even a year old and same as yours. Completely dead . I’m in process of sending it back to Fitbit . It’s been awful lengthy time consuming process + I’m weeks without a replacement I still have receipt box etc all in perfect condition asked why? Can I not return to my local retailer for a brand new one . No they wouldn’t let me. They only required the watch face and charger to be returned so yes it’s going to be refurbished ! I’m not happy with this . I wish I had purchased an Apple + avoided all this . Wouldn’t mind but they are very expensive .

Just a hiccup after the warranty expires. If you’re lucky, it’ll breakdown right before and you SHOULD receive a replacement. That said, you’ll have to navigate customer service. If you’re fortunate enough to get someone that actually knows the product and is not reading a script then you’ll be in good hands. However, that won’t be the norm.

My Flex lasted exactly 4 years. I loved it. I've had my Inspire for 7 months and I think it died last night. Waiting to hear from CS because I've tried all the troubleshooting tips I've found to no avail. It just will not turn on.

When I pay $150 for something, I expect it to last more than 27 months. I am super easy on things. My Alice In Wonderland watch from 1968 still works perfectly.
IMHO -- my FitBit should last just as long. I think you build in obsolescence so they quit working after two years. Yes, I've purchased a new FitBit but I'm not happy about it.

The "other options" are that you can buy a new one and FitBit will offer you a very small discount. Happened with my Charge. The Versa with discount cost me $160.00 in June 2019 and it just died. No warning, nothing. Will not charge or turn on. This is my third fitbit that has done this. I will be looking for a more reliable tracker. Very disappointed in FitBit.
