Hi all!
I've seen a lot of these groups on Facebook and thought that those of you without Facebook (or even those with Facebook) might like to join me in a challenge. The challenge is to walk or run 2,018 in the year 2018. It is open to everyone in the Fitbit Community, and you can post your updates here either weekly or monthly, whatever works for you! I'll start:
Week 1: 7.46 miles so far
Who's with me?
So what does this mean in numbers:
Miles a month: 2,018 miles this year/12 months a year= 168 miles a month
Miles a week: 2,108 miles this year/52 weeks a year= 38.8 miles a week (or 39 if you are rounding up)
Miles a day: 2,018 miles this year/365 days a year= 5.5 miles a day

Hello Everyone, I'm Kym. I just came across this group and thought it'd be a fun one to particpate in. I'm fairly new to the Fitbit community and this is my very first post. I started on Jan. 6th and I'm at 74.41 miles so far this month. I need to "step" my game up, to meet this month's goal, but I'm up for the challenge. Thanks for creating this group..... I need all of the motivation that I can get!

Thank you! I will do my best to catch up and store some extra:) I fell off the wagon 4/5 months ago and haven't been walking in a while. But I am determined to get back up on my feet!

Goal: 25,000 steps fifteen times during the month.
25,000 steps has become easy for me now. Getting it is mostly a matter of scheduling my time. I got 41,340 steps one time. I wasn't at all tired the next day.
Date | Steps | |
1 | 1/6/2018 | 25,938 |
2 | 1/9/2018 | 26,222 |
3 | 1/11/2018 | 25,294 |
4 | 1/12/2018 | 25,276 |
5 | 1/13/2018 | 30,459 |

What are you doing, that you're able to get that many steps in one day? I get excited when I get 11,000 🙂

That's amazing, as the most I've ever gotten is around 31,000, and that's when I was last in NYC. I also got quite a few steps my first day in Vegas, but that's because I landed around 1 in the morning Vegas time and did a lot of walking when I woke up. Getting 11,000 or more isn't a problem on weekdays, but it's rare that I get as high as 20,000

I'm so jealous 🙂 I've recently gotten serious about losing weight and my well being and I was telling my husband that I wanted to start walking on nice days and weekends. I never considered the mall on cold and/or rainy days. I think I will keep that in mind for such days. Thanks 🙂

Warning: If anything starts to hurt even a little bit, stop ASAP and take a couple days off. This will prevent chronic injuries.
I'll explain the simple answers. First, I don't walk any extra steps in the house. They are slower and often not counted. They do count for fatigue. If I feel like it, I can get the work done more quickly and go for a 1,000 step walk.
I move quite slowly. Only about 3.5 mph. I usually have a metronome set at 117 bpm. I have two gaits. The first is a normal walk. The second is an "old man run." I don't move any faster, but I put my arms up like I'm jogging. I have a timer that sounds every 20 seconds or whatever other interval I want. I switch my gait each time the timer sounds.
I have a slower version of these gaits, so really, I have four gaits. Alternating my gait prevents overuse injuries and fatigue.
I plan my day in the morning. Below is the day I got 41,000 steps. I was only planning 25,000, but I felt good so went farther.
The past two or three days, I've been starting with 10,000 steps at 4 am and 10,000 around 9:00. Next month, I may add another 10,000 at 1:00. This will result in about 32,000 steps a day including lifestyle steps.
I eat a Whole Food Plant based diet, which greatly decreases recovery time.

@GershonSurge — thanks for sharing the graph. You really dial it in when you are moving.
