Thanks @shipo.   I think part of it is diet change.   I have never eaten my trigger foods (beer, lobster, scallops and liver).   But the healther I eat, the less red meat I consume and the less i drink.  So I think my liver is better equipped to remove purines and my purine intake is lessened.

My awesome accomplishment is my increase in running.

Since I started school it became harder for me to keep my running habbits up. Since I've been off for summer, over the course of a month I've gone from running 1 mile nonstop to running 4 miles nonstop.

I want to begin training for a half marathon with my boyfriend and I'm super excited to say yesterday I got 20k steps in and plan on making that my daily goal! 😄

Well done Naty.  🙂

FWIW, I coach a lot of beginning runners, many of whom have a half marathon as one of their mid-term goals.  The best advice I can give them is to ignore all of the training programs out there which advocate speed or interval drills; for a beginner nothing prepares the body better for a half marathon than simple Long Slow Distance (LSD).  Now that you're up to four miles non-stop, instead of speeding things up, I would recommend you keep your current pace (or even slow down a bit), and push your runs another mile, then another couple of miles, then say eight miles two to three times weekly and say ten to twelve miles twice weekly.

Once you can comfortably run over ten miles at a crack, then you can start working on faster pacing (should you so desire).  Even then, my advice would be to simply dial up the pace for the last few miles of say a ten mile workout; that's more than enough speed work to successfully run a half marathon.

Thank you 😄

I definitely plan on kicking up the mileage over time but the last thing I want is to start a "plan," because that will just make the running feel like a chore more than anything else. And, of course, there's some days where I just kind of say screw running, like last week, after 5 weeks of non stop running for 5x a week, I didn't run at all except for 2x that week. I did it because I listened to my body.

But, I'm going to take the advice about the slower pace. I'll try and aim for five miles non stop today and probaby slow down the mileage per hour at the 3.5 miles. I'll see how that goes 🙂

thanks so much

I think my three miles is averaging at 26 minutes, so I'm not exactly the fastest goose in town.

Hey, I coach some folks who churn and burn through a 5K (3.1 miles) in under 18 minutes, and other folks who would kill to be able to do it under 35 minutes.  At 26 minutes you're doing very well, doubly so because of your "beginner" status.  🙂

Thank you! 😄 That's definitely encouraging to hear, I'll keep it up for sure

Yesterday I hit 30,000 steps,  the bulk of it coming from a 4 hour, 10 minute walk (also a personal best, but **ahem**ed if it wasn't  boring walking around and around the downtown area/busier streets).

I want to drop my last  8 pounds, tone up a bit, and hopefully overtime increase my steps per day  (right now it's 15k.  Yesterday I  just wanted to  have a challenge for myself).  30k a day on the regular would definitely be something to work up to. *lol*

This thread is a great idea! And you all are doing such an awesome job! Keep at it people!

As for me, I did something last Sunday that was surely the most difficult thing I have ever done. I rode my bike for 65 miles, around Smuggler's Notch in Vermont, with a total elevation of 4500 feet or so. It took me 5 hrs 15 minutes total, out of which 4 hours 30 minutes were in the saddle.

Before this ride, the max I had done was 32 miles.

After many months of working on my upper body strength, I was finally able to do a complete muscle-up! My plan is to knock out 10 in a row by the end of August.

I tried to hit 10,000 steps daily for a full week. I got in a little over 12,000 daily for that week. With the challenges and friends with a fitbit, it motivates me to keep moving!Smiley Happy
