The Jumping June step challenge is nearly over so it’s time to sign up for July. Jaunty July? Yeah, well, it is super hot in the Northern hemisphere, and super cold in the Southern hemisphere, so it is best just to have a little attitude about your steps and get at it. 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but I set a goal to walk 100,000 miles by 6/5/53, my hundredth birthday. Right now, it's looking like I'll need to live a few extra years. I have many goals in the background to create the best chance of happening. @Baltoscott, you are going to need to hang around to keep this topic going.
@Jotex, good luck with resolving your pains. I find if I keep my steps low enough to minimize pains, they go away. A new one appears when I increase my steps. Usually, they are minor. One thing I've done to minimize stress is to avoid all discussions about food.
Thanks @GershonSurge. My doctor examined me and said my pain wasn’t from arthritis as I still have a lot of flexibility in movement. But the muscles are very tense, so he gave me a cortisone injection. It has helped before, so fingers crossed! I think generally limiting my steps to 15,000 every other day, unless I’m in pain, is a good plan. As far as stress goes, I try to avoid political discussions! I am also learning to say ‘no’ to doing things that stress me.
As far as the 2053 date, to be honest, I thought it was a typo!!! @NellyG and @GershonSurge — I’m only a year and a few months behind y’all (1954 was a very good year!).
@NellyG And @SeleneD and ALL you Peeps, Happy 4th July! 🎉💗:united_states:

July 4
8,000 steps 12 days -- 1/12
15,000 steps 10 days -- 2/10
35 Jumping Jacks 22 days -- 3/22
Floor Exercises w/weights 12 days -- 3/12
Wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get many steps in today, but I have felt so well, I made — maybe will exceed! — my 15,000 step goal! The injection seems to already be taking effect; the muscles don’t feel as tense as before. But I have kept the pace at a lower setting (4.3 kilometers vs 5.0+).

Yikes is it hot out today. It was hot over the weekend so I did things inside during the day and didn't really go outside until after 6pm. Today I came home, did some shopping on the way back, and decided to go outside about 2pm (had a few things that I knew would need water). Yikes, yikes, yikes. I went out barefoot - really bad idea. Between the concrete and the wood I did a quick water (had to pour water on the deck to finish the watering) then hopped into the pool. I didn't pay enough attention to the pool last summer and have some calcium scale on the fiberglass. It's going to take a while to clean up - but the stuff on the sides is fairly light. I can basically drag the vacuum hose over it slowly and get it off. However, this is slow and is going to take some time. On the plus side it's hot enough out that I'm not getting cold in the water. Have to look out the snorkel and my mask to go further down.
I'm actually over my 11k today so I thought I'd post now. I'm actually going back to the grocery store once I make a list. I picked up a huge napa cabbage as part of my CSA (weekly farm share) and I'm going to make a couple of trays of cabbage roll casserole. When we get to the standard cabbage I think I'm going to try making sauerkraut this year.
Oh - and Happy 4th of July to our American members!

5 Jaunty Walks | 2/5 |

1 pushup/day | 4/31 |
16 weight-lifting days | 3/14 |
50 floors or more for 20 days | 4/20 |
Sleep 6+ hours 12 days or more during the month | 2/12 |
Another Jaunty Walk in the gym this morning, caught part of a neighborhood Independence Day parade on the bike ride home, then caught up with Jane and we saw the Mr. Rogers movie documentary at the local arts theatre. Burgers off the grill, fresh corn on the cob, and roasted veggies for dinner. Watched Coco on Netflix after dinner while the dogs stressed out about the fireworks.
Nice to have a day off in the middle of the week, but back to work tomorrow.

I've been increasing my steps to just over 16,000 a day. This is a caution area for me as staying above 16,000 for too long often results in some little ache or pain developing. I've had to do this to keep my calories burned above 3,000 a day.
I've been recording YouTube videos and books to listen to while jogging and working. Yesterday, I completed listening to one playlist and started working on another.
I washed the floor of the porch yesterday and took off some of the paint. Now, I get to repaint the floor. Same thing happened with the garage door. Last time this happened, I ended up repainting the entire house. Sounds like my next long project.
@A_Lurker, sounds like you are having fun with the pool. I'm imagining you like a deep sea diver while you are snorkeling to clean the calcium deposits. At the end of the year, you could probable remove them with hot vinegar.
@Jotex, glad the shot is working out for you.
@NellyG, I'm not sure what boning is, but it sounds jaunty. 53 was a good year. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were lucky enough to be born in our year.
@SeleneD, I'm impressed at how far you can swim. Does your dog swim with you? I'm a sinker, so I have problems just keeping my head above water.
Sounds like a fun day. We are under a strict fireworks ban here due to the heat and fire danger. It was nice to have a quiet fourth. Still, a few firecrackers would have been nice.
Keep up the good work. Hopefully, you will get back to your old self soon.

Didn’t want to push my luck, so I made rhe lower step count and will have about 3,000 extra (11,000). The shot does seem to have relieved my pain and limp is much better, @GershonSurge.
Not sure in what form I’ll add a bit of ‘jauntiness’ to my July activities; but will report on it after-the-fact. 😇
Loved all the photos and hearing of everyone’s progress (or not). 💗

Got too much sun yesterday (some red bits) so did things inside today. I was going on quite well until we lost power in the late afternoon (only for a minute the first time). The next time was almost 2 hours and so I decided to not finish the items that needed cooking. The first time I was making rice for homemade cat food (long story, but this is for the older cat) and it was close enough to being ready it wasn't an issue. I didn't want to get caught again.
Thankfully our power is back on and our major heat wave is over. We didn't get enough rain during that break so I'll have to water tomorrow. Nothing was brutally dry so it will be better to run around in the morning.

dh wanted to go hiking yesterday so I didn't take a morning walk. By the time he was actually ready to leave and we got there we had very little time to hike and then spent the majority playing in the creek. You would think after 27 years I would learn not to wait for him, but I never do.
Taking the kids to a local theme park today. It is really small - every year I keep thinking this will be the last year they enjoy it - there are really only 4 rides. A bit worried because it is a really shady place and usually we go when it is over 90 because the best ride is the log ride. It's supposed to only be in the low 70's today (sorry to all you sweltering people.) Lots of hills there so should be a good steps/burn day.
