Fitbit Update 1/10/19:

Hi all! Big thanks to everyone for your feedback on the release of Fitbit OS 3.0!

Since the majority of users have now updated to 3.0, I will be closing this thread from further comments to help keep our community discussions on-topic.

If you are experiencing an issue outside of the firmware update process, I invite you to start a new thread on this forum and we will be happy to assist you there. Thanks again and happy stepping!

Fitbit Update 12/26:

Hey, everyone! We're aware that some of you may have noticed a fast battery drain on your Ionic watches after completing this firmware update. Our team is investigating the root cause of this issue and whether it was caused by this update or other factors are involved.

In the meantime, if you're experiencing this problem please try a restart on the device then consider switching to a Fitbit made clock face! Many 3rd party clockfaces (especially those with animations) are known to use up more battery. If you try this out and are still seeing a fast battery drain, we can connect you with Customer Support for next steps or you can reach out to them and create a case.

We look forward to getting you all back on track!

Fitbit Update 12/22:

We've released Fitbit OS 3.0 out to 100% of users. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Fitbit app (2.84) before downloading the newest firmware.

We're excited for you all to have the newest Fitbit OS, but please let us know if you have any questions about this update. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Hi, everyone!

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 3.0! (Firmware Version: 27.33.1.30)

We've started to roll out this update to 20% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it soon. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

WHAT'S CHANGED?

Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.

If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:

  1. Restart the watch.
  2. "Remove" the watch from your account inside of the Fitbit app.
  3. "Forget" the watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings (along with any other Fitbit devices paired to your phone)
  4. Try the update again.

If anyone isn't seeing the Today app after updating, please try the following:

1. Make sure you're running the newest version of the Fitbit app.

2. Connect to Wi-Fi in the Fitbit app, plug your Ionic into the charger and let it sit. This will automatically update the Today app.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

This update totally bricked my ionic and now I need to go to squaretrade to purchase a new fitbit, this is totally insane, isn't there any other way out of this mess???  I already spent an hour chatting with fitbit support and the results, my fitbit is bricked and I need a new one.

I did the update yesterday and since then I am unable to swipe up on my screen to see my stats.. is there something that I am missing or need to do?  I have restarted it a couple of times.

Some people with this issue have been having success by

a)checking to make sure their phone's fitbit app is up to date, and updating it if not, and then

b)going into the ionic app section in the fitbit app to make sure the today app on the ionic is up to date.

Okay I updated my app on my phone and reset my Ionic, all seems to be working now.  Thanks!

Patiently waiting for my pink dot... 🙂  Fingers triple crossed that some of the GPS issues have been fixed as that will make all the difference for me.

i got the update button yesterday. the fitbit os version on my watch is still 32.10.20. i did not get the last update. i tried all the tips mentioned but i am not able to update my ionic to fitbit os 3.0.

today the update worked.

steps i did:

- ionic was plugged to the charger

- connected to a new wlan (connection was verified by installing a new aop from store)

- updated the fitbit app

the update took around 20 minutes. afterwards an error "file not found" was shown in red letters. but till now everything works fine.

after the update it seems you have to update many installed apps. so i asume much changes under the hood.

after the update non compatible apps are not shown anymore. i guess i have to update them to use them again. i hope data is not wiped.

hr sensor feels alright. i will go for a run in the evening to do further tests.

the new today app is nice because it displays much more info (also sleep data, weight,...).

I’ve had a problem with battery life since updating, now only seem to be getting 2-3 days instead of the normal 4-5. Hopefully this will be patched with another update soon

I have no idea because the update bricked my fitbit

Mine is also bricked. Its in a infinitive boot loader loop....

Tried everything, reset, different phone, battery drain, bluetooth disconnect....

Something is definetly wrong with this update...

It goes beyon me how I can't come back to a normal state again. This could be costly for Fitbit to replace every one with a bricked watch because of this update...

I noticed a significant drop in battery life. Pulled off charger this morning at 7am, showing full charge.

It's 12 noon and it's showing 58% battery.

Had at least 5 days of wear before needing a charge before update.

I'm not seeing the Today App after the update. I plugged in to the charger and am connected to WiFi. How long do I have to "let it sit" to get my Today App back?

Have you installed the newest app on your smartphone? Mine was there directly after the update.

Hello  !

Has someone checked after update if the firmware release for OS 3.0 matches with 27.33.1.30  listed in the original post?  After a factory reset, Fitbit app paired to Ionic and got the message that there was a new version 3.0. but finally Ionic got the firmware 27.20.16.23.

This is confusing me, could someone confirm the firmware version installed after the update.?

Seem to have updated to 27.33.1.30. The update downloaded and was installed and the watch rebooted to the main display. Fairly fast - maybe 10 mins tops. However the phone sat there for about 5 mins longer thinking that the update wasnt done yet even though the watch had already rebooted.

I was updating from the last firmware version so perhaps that's why it went through ok.

New UI and features look good so far. Nice to have extended data visible from the today screen.

Received my firmware update. It took about 35 minutes over WiFi. I wore it in my wrist during the update and waited until it rebooted. Everything looks good.
