Hello Ionic family!
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1.3.
We started releasing this new update to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases aren’t distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside.

I loaded the update on my Ionic this weekend and it bricked it. Burned up 80%+ battery level in about four hours and now won't turn on or take a charge. Hopefully there is a fix for this.

@sytzeng they are NOT built on a factory setting, they are released in waves based on location. The reason it worked for you is purely a coincidence. Also the factory reset is not a new function, in fact it has been present for a few releases now. The advice from Fitbit is DO NOT do a factory reset to try and force an update as you will more often than not be unsuccessful due to the reasons outlined above. Also it's an Ionic not an iOnic.

@jharv78 have you tried to hold down all 3 buttons for at least 20-30 seconds? you might have to try this a few times to see if it comes back to life.

Yes - I have tried holding all three buttons down and getting no response from the watch. I've tried it both plugged into the charging cable and no cable. I've also tried three different cables and various outlets for charging with the same result. It won't recognize it is being charged. Thanks for the tip however!

Since updating to the new OS 4.1.3 my Ionic Fitbit will no longer hold a charge for more than 8 hours.. It can be 100% charged when I go to bed and the Fitbit is completely dead when I wake up. Before updating to the new OS my Fitbit would hold a charge for 7+ days with no issues. How can this issue be fixed. Obviously, I cannot use my Fitbit when the battery no longer holds a charge for more then a few hours. Thanks,

I updated two iOnics today. Both are fine.
Does your iOnic updates successfully from previous update?
If you do have problems from last updates, it is possible that a reset will bricked it.
I should warn you all about this.

I know this is not a right way to updates any device. Just try to find the safe way to avoid troubles caused by Fitbit

Apparently they're just offering people a 25% off coupon on a new device. Which is garbage in my opinion. It feels like this is an instance of planned obsolescence like Apple is famous for.

I have not been offered the 25% off yet, ( I am sure it is coming) but my device was working just fine till 70.80.0 came along.

So, apparently, the links to android authority are "Word Choice" issues?
This keeps getting better daily.

I just have a simple question for both mods. What would you do if a $299 retail watch bricks on you during a s/w update which is literally forced on you guys via the app? Do you two think 25% off in a case like that is fair?

I have done the update this morning. Was just working fine until an hour ago. The screen is black!! The ionic will not turn on again!! Wish I didn’t do the update.

I also have a screen problem. My screen is "dim", I cannot see it in any high lighting....settings show it as "dim"....I am not allowed to change that setting at all, why?

@dvpatel Looks like Android Authority took my tip quickly and posted the article right on their homepage. Good for them. Again - this was to HELP the many Ionic users out there who may inadvertently brick their devices by updating. Still haven't updated mine. Waiting for definitive, official word from Fitbit that these issues have been resolved (and TESTED)...

@evillama, I haven't updated mine either. Since I asked for an assurance from the mods and they never provided it. Not sure if they read my ask a couple pages back or not. 😈

I generally sympathize with mods as they're only trying to help.
It's when they take it upon themselves to "edit" posts and quash bad news that they lose my support. I'd hope they are in contact with Fitbit development about these issues.
The bad publicity is not going away, esp now that tech media is reading these threads.
Fix the problem, and get back to all of us with an official statement...

@evillama, this is my 3rd thread on this. I came when my Ionic started acting up but figured it was growing pains and did not post with the Dec/Jan update but read a majority of the thread. Then, in April, I updated hoping that my issues with the prior update would be resolved. No such luck.
I then tried to find out if my watch is in or out of warranty and the support would not even tell me that. Apparently, I have to follow all troubleshooting procedures including rebooting, resetting, removing the device. I lost if when I was asked to remove ALL my bluetooth devices. They won't tell me if I am in or out of warranty now as I won't do the next steps.
I am with you. The moderator's job is a hard one having to deal with disgruntled folks. But since December, the masses have asked for a better change log. That is now 6 months out. Nothing has been provided with each update and each update seem to be causing more issues and problems and more bricks than the prior one.
