With respect if the calibration is to do with resetting the GPS etc, why is it asking to be plugged into the charger and put on a flat surface? My ionic has only started doing this since the fiemwareup date yesterday (which has rejigged all the info the ionic gives, bilut in a much better user friendly way!) Although I am still pressing the wrong buttons while in the gym! Heyho, the new fuemwfir only went on yesterday ebeneve and the calibration message started after this! So back to my initial question why if it's to do with GPS why is it plugged in and on charge in a static position on a flat surface?

Upon receiving the notification that I needed to calibrate my Ionic, I plugged it in. But as soon as I set it down, the magnetic connector to the charging cable came just a bit off of the device, ending the calibration. Is there any way to manually initiate calibration on the Ionic?

I'm having the opposite experience.  For example, last Monday while driving in my car from out of state to home for 6 hours my Ionic tracked over 26,000 steps.  Last Thursday while home sick in bed my Ionic tracked over 8000 steps.

@SunsetRunner@patch832- have you connected the tracker to the power cable, plugged into a working USB port, and laid it down for 15 seconds to complete the calibration?

Had mine nearly 6 months now even put fitbit  os 2 on the other day and never once in that time has my ionic asked me to calibrate it.

Every time! Doesn't seem to matter...

It’s obvious isn’t it? There’s a design flaw, possibly hardware level, and this is a stop-gap solution to what would otherwise be a hardware recall. Someone screwed something up big time and now us owners are the ones that suffer. Ever have to calibrate your Surge? Nope.

I don't know about that. I went  up and down the stairs (2 flights) 10 times in a row and it only increased my floors by 1. Then I walk around at work all day and never go up any stairs and it says I climbed 25 floors. I don't think any calibration can fix that, it's just not using the right data to estimate.

Lucky me got a Fitbit Iconic for my birthday, and coming from a Flex i am new to this whole calibration thing..   Whenever I plug it in, face down on a soft service, I start calibration and a big red X appears on the screen which I have understood meant it was working and I should just let it be.  However the same message alwats results - failed to calibrate - with an option to try again or try later.  I have tried countless times with the same result.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong @MarreFitbit?  It sounds like you know what you're talking about!  So your help would be greatly received, thank you. ☺

Hi, welcome to the club of people complaining about defective Ionic smart
watches. Membership is growing daily. Fitbit has no solution to this
calibration problem and doesn't even respond to support requests.

Thx for letting me know 😏 not so great hey.  However, I continue to enjoy the heart rate tracking side of the Iconic especially - it seems to me all that info must make for quite an accurate recording system.  I look forward to learn more as I anticipate getting even more out of it. 👏

I contacted Fitbit Support via CHAT on Friday.  At first it appeared the support person was not aware of the Calibration issue.  I explained multiple times that it started after the most recent Firmware update.  I also explained that I did a factory reset multiple times and rebooted the device also multiple times but the issue still happens.  They finally stated they had heard of a few of these incidents to which I explained there are numerous complaints about this issue on the forum.  They finally admitted they are aware of the issue and are working on it.  There is no ETA.

It seems there is a greater problem at hand.  Thanks for detailing your story.  Here is to hoping this is sorted soon!

Fitbit have responded to one of my support requests, confirming that there is a known issue with calibration with the Ionic. See text below. I guess the fix may be released as another software update at some point.

"Based on the calibration message that you keep receiving after the firmware updated, we would like to inform you that we are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible."

My watch won’t calibrate ever since the update this past week. It keeps giving an error. Does anyone know what to do?

Mine won’t recalibrate either. It keeps saying check the sensors but they aren’t blocked:(
