The notification feature on the Ionic is very unstable as are a lot of the apps. I am finding that they don't work more often than do. It is very frustrating. Especially when Fitbit continues to introduce more features that have the same issues.
Last week, I updated the firmware on my Fitbit Ionic and lost all notification functionality -- no call, no text, no calendar. This update did provide the new Quick Reply feature which is useless without receiving notifications.
This morning I spent an hour or more on the phone working with Fitbit Tech Support and made no progress.
Perhaps legislation should be created that prevents advertising or charging for a feature if it does not work reliably for more than 1% of the customers that use it. And if it initially is reliable and is made unstable by an upgrade compulsory refunds should be made.

I switched to the Message app and now I cant receive notifications for my text messages on my phone or ionic. Do you know what could be wrong? I can only see the message if I open the app.

No idea. I have one notification that comes through. A Google calendar reminder to take vitamins. Oddly, none of the other stuff on the calendar come through. I changed apps -- both calendar and message -- absolutely no effect...

Message+ is an texting app that has additional features than the Message (yellow) one. You can label group texts, see when someone else that uses the app has read or is responding to a text and things like that.

I switched notifications to the yellow app as my primary. Turned on the notifications in the app. And then I couldn't receive anything. The messages were still in the yellow and red app but no notification would show up on either. Did you have to do anything to your message+ app when you switched?

No, as soon as I switched to Message and made it my default app (after making this change in the Fitbit app as well) they worked.
To set the default app on your S7 go to Settings>Apps>Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right>Defaults Apps and then make sure Message is your default.
If that doesn't work then I'm out of ideas. Sorry!

Hello I’ve had the same issue as well since downloading the new update. I deconnected and reconnected my Bluetooth, I’ve logged our and logged back in, reset the notifications and still unable to receive any notifications from my phone to my ionic

Do you use the Message+ to text?

Ok so what someone in this thread told me was they contacted fitbit and message + is not compatible so if you want to receive messages on your ionic then you need to use message. Its yellow from samsung. Just turn on the notifications there and make it default on your phone and fitbit and it should work.

Verizon sells the FitBit Ionic. I called them yesterday and tech support could find nothing about a compatibility issue.
I had it working for months with no problems until a firmware upgrade on the 5th or 6th of May.
So far, not much help from FitBit... I will call again tomorrow...

Im sorry. I just told you what I was told. I bought mine shortly before the firmware but it sounds like this update is what messed everyone up. Its veru frustrating. Let me know if you figure anything out.

No problem and you might be right. It takes time for stuff to appear -- updates not rolled out at the same time, people having problems and not reporting, people reporting but not in enough numbers to appear on the radar yet... etc...
Anyhow, I made some progress. As I mentioned before, I was receiving one notification but not others on the calendar. I did some digging and found that the one reminder was set to give a notification and not in text format. I found a drop down list for the type of notification for the reminder to send (text, notification and email). I had all mine with the exception of one set to text. When I went back and set the type to notification for reminders and calendar events, notifications appeared on the FitBit.
Now, I hope the Wunderkind at FitBit are paying attention. The part of the Fitbit App that is broken is the messaging notification. If the type of notification is set to text, it ain't going to happen. Moreover, if notifications are set to a mix of email, text and notification the result is that only some them will get to the FitBit. The hit or miss appearance of the notification symptoms are caused by the mixture of notification types with text.
Finally, I am not a FitBit App expert, but I would guess that the messaging part of the app is trying to read the complete list of messages and crashing or that it crashes when it tries to send a text and does not have permission. In any case, it appears you guys broke your own product with the last update -- I suspect the quick reply feature.
For people trying to trouble shoot the problem. If you can send the test notification from the phone app, then the connection is good. Clearing memory, uninstalling, reinstalling, shutting down the FitBit, factory resets, etc... will not work if the notification type is set to text on the relevant app (Calendar, etc...).
Anyhow good luck... I am going to try something. I will post results...

Hmm I am not sure I understand. I have my notifications set to receive text messages. I turned the calandar ones off because I dont use it. I receive the emails. So you now receive your texts on your fitbit?

I just finished chatting with a Fitbit customer service rep. I was having the same issue...I received notifications for everything except text messages after I updated to the newest firmware on Thursday.(version 23.32.10.15) It turns out that it is a bug with the Message+ app. I switched to make Messages my default app and now it works. He said that the engineering team is aware of this problem and are working to fix this bug. I hope they fix it soon because I prefer the Message+ app!!

I use to before the upgrade. I had my calendar and reminders set to "text" format. When an event or reminder triggered, a text message would be sent using the phones connection to the service provider -- in my case Verizon. If the notification is set to email the notification uses a different route -- i.e. Wifi or the data connection. When the format is set to notification, it appears the notification is sent directly to the Ionic using Bluetooth.
So as best and I can figure out, the problem appears to be with the Messaging app Cellular route. I have switched Messaging Apps but still could not get it working. Some report success -- no idea why it works for some and not for others...
My hypothesis is that there are 3 transmitter receivers in the phone: Phone Cellular, Wifi and Bluetooth. The notification types each travel a different route using various software. Right not it appears that the Message Cellular route is broken...

Thank you hbauer. I was getting my text before I did the upgrade. That's the only I'm not getting. Cell calls comes through. I'll wait and see.

I have an iphone 6s. I used to get all notifications before last update on my ionic (that I just got back in December). Now the ONLY notifications I do not get on my ionic is texts. I rebooted my phone then my watch and I still do not get texts on my ionic. Anyone have any idea why? I see a lot of people having issues with their android phones but (and I am sure I missed it somewhere) nothing on iphone issues.

I dont think the quick replies has rolled out to iPhones yet, so that could be the problem.
