Hi! I just saw a thread from 2014 where a group of mom's and non-mom's set a goal to lose 20 pounds by Mother's Day. Anyone want to start one for 2015 with me? I have about 35 pounds to lose total, but 20 by May sounds like a good goal to me.
I am going to try to get my 10,0000 steps in and I am joining a gym this weekend to add strength training and cardio.

Hi Jop
Welcome to our challenge. I think that realistic goals help us stay motivated. In 8 mos. your doctor will be telling you that your numbers are much better. Health is the best reason to get more active and eat more healthfully.
Good for you.
Did you set a calorie, or step goal as yet?
We can do this getting healthier together.

Yahoo for you. You go girl. .4 of a lb to 5 lbs for me too.
Now pushing myself to burn the calories by getting in 7000 more steps tonight. Guess I need to change clothes and go dancing again. I'm tired from doing housework for hours today - man o man clean clothes and dishes, etc.. But those steps are lacking. Maybe I can burn enough to get home for Downton Abbey at 9 PM
Keep at it.

Hi KathyAnn,
How are you doing today? Are you making your daily 3000 today? I agree about logging the food is sure to help us stay on track. It is almost like a game for me.. I never want to go over my calorie limit or do too few steps so late at night I may be seen, by a fly on the wall, dancing or walking back and forth in my house to get in the steps. I, too, have a little osteoarthritis so need to be careful about annoying my knees too much. Turning 74 in April and I plan to be 6 lbs. lighter in 6 weeks so I'm sticking with the burn at least 500 more calories than I eat . Tomorrow it is 3 weeks since I started and down 4.4 lbs by walking & dancing. So far soooo good but I wonder how long will it stick to the commitment to take so darn many steps each and every day.? 927 more to go before bed time so that will be just a few songs of dancing.
Keep on trucking along.
All the best,
Barbara

Hi Dancefoxtrot,
Downton Abbey is also my favorite too. I record it, but instread of fast-forwarding throught the commercials, I get up off the sofa and "march" through them. When the show comes back on, I take a break and sit, then repeat till the show is over. That's how I get in my extra steps before bedtime. Keep it up!
Start: 199
Now: 187
Goal: 165

I'm doing pretty good hitting my 3,000 steps - I am sure if people look in through our picture window and see me walking around the kitchen counter they will think I'm crazy. I am determined to stay on course - and even if I had a slip-up day - I am determined to get back on track. (Here's a hint - today was a slip-up day!!!) I'm still recording my food even though I wince when I see the total. So, as of right now - 6:42 pm Central Standard time - I'm back on track.
I hope you and I can both stick to the commitment to keep our steps up - let's keep going - together!!! Let me know how you are doing, dancefoxtrot!

I have joined the group, but I have sort of lost steam over the weekend. I overindulged and feel bad for it. I need some movitvation.
What are some ways to up your step count. my lowest is about 5,000 steps my highest is 14,000 a day. it depends on the day. I usually go to the gym to get my steps in, but what are ways I could do it outside of the gym?

Hello! Oh, how I understand how easy it is to lose steam in this ongoing battle to get healthier! I've fought being fat my entire life. Since Jan 1, I've lost just over 10 lbs. (at one time I weighed 300 lbs. I down now to about 245.) This 50 lb weight loss has taken about 5 years as I have trouble staying motivated for more than a few days. This year, since January is the longest I've been able to stay motivated in probably 30 years! Now, the food is calling to me. I overindulged the last couple of days. However, I've decided I WILL NOT feel bad for it. I will enjoy the food I ate and start again fresh. I did that last night. I didn't even wait until a new day! If we beat ourselves up for overindulging -then it becomes a vicious circle and we can't get back on board. So - rejoice - you are still going to be successful because you can start again today. To get my measly 3,000 steps in, I walk around my living room, my kitchen, I march in place while watching TV. I bought an inexpensive recumbent bike and that helps. I go to the grocery store and walk up and down all the aisles.

Thank you so much for your reply those are great ideas! Bravo on your weight loss! :):)I've been working out since decemeber, ive lost only 8 lbs. 😕 I have the hardest time being consistent with my diet, i would be doing great for a few weeks and then I "pig out" out of nowhere. its a yo-yo habit I am trying to break. I will keep going! its a new day everyday at 12am, my fitbit starts over and so will I. I just hate that the progress I made went down the drain
(my own fault I know)

Maybe late to join for 20lbs by Mother's Day but it is still about 11 weeks if I counted right so I'd like to join in as I'm just getting back to really working at getting those steps and watching those foods.
