For all my Chats, Challenges & Laughs peeps! Since we can't get on the threads I thought I would start a discussion area for us. We may not be able to keep track of points standings easily but we can still talk.
I miss you!

I had a productive day even though I didn’t exercise and my eating was over what I should have had. I cleaned out another kitchen cabinet. Hubby saw the angel food cake pan in the donate box and wanted to keep it. I haven’t used it in 20 years! I told him that if he wanted an angel food cake, I’d buy him one. I also sewed two Christmas aprons. I bought the fabric in November of 2018.
I also made some arrangements to celebrate my dad’s 90th birthday next week. I will deliver a cake to the nursing home and they will have him in the dining room so we can all see him from outside.
If anyone follows football, #62 on the Cleveland Browns, “a guy named Blake”, is from Jacksonville. It’s always nice to cheer on a local boy.

It’s wet and windy today and I have a killer headache. I just feel like vegging and eating junk food. It’s a good thing I don’t have any junk food in the house and I’m too lazy to go buy some.
I have a roast in the crockpot so maybe I’ll call it a recreation day and watch a movie I’ve been wanting to see.

First, @ElaineJ27 , lol. Just the other day I was wishing I had an angel food cake pan! Guess I shouldn't buy one after all. Good for you for holding your ground. Your day of cleaning out a cabinet, sewing aprons, etc. sounded great. There is something to be said about not having junk food in the house. Today, unfortunately, we stopped by the coffee shop and I bought a fabulous favorite of mine; which, was OK since I only got one; But, then I spied another very high caloric item that I had never tried so I got that, too. And, then I ended up eating both treats today (one was four servings worth). Ugh.
I ended up changing my fasting app from 20 hrs to 18 hrs. Maybe that's a better balance to get me back to better portion control. I've been praying for guidance on how to take care of myself. I don't know what's right for me anymore. I may have been burning fat, but I can't stand not losing weight. My goal to lose 4 lbs a month is certainly reasonable. Although, to make that goal this month I will need to really be vigilant.

A good eating day and ended up fasting close to 20 hours. Did some snow shoveling, necessary paperwork, dishes and had nice phone visits with two sisters. I'm calling it a win 🙂

I gained 0.4 lb, which is certainly not bad after being a slug and eating everything I could get my hands on. I need to get back to my morning routine, which, as most of us have realized, starts with going to bed and getting up at reasonable times.
This morning I made a list of what comprises my morning routine, plus a few things I have neglected. I finished in about two hours, including 30 minutes on the elliptical. My dishes are done and my house is dusted and vacuumed. And I feel pretty good! Acting like a slug makes me feel miserable and I KNOW that it doesn’t take much activity to get more energy. I still have a problem with my “starter”!
We received about half an inch of snow late yesterday afternoon but it has already melted. There was no wind so the snow floating straight down was beautiful.
After a slight resurgence of activity on this site, we’re back to periodic posts. I know that I’m not alone in wanting to hear how you’re all doing.
I still haven’t reserved enough patience to contact Fitbit support but I really need to get on that. I will put itt on my calendar for Monday right now!

Finally a load of wood to deliver today - just one this week. It was so nice out I ended up taking my first walk of the year. Per fitbit, it was .91 miles which took me 19 minutes. Not speedy, but I did get my heart up. That along with loading wood, which we had to do in a hurry to meet our delivery time, gave me at least 45 minutes of exercise. Wahoo. Finally.
I hear you, @ElaineJ27 , on enjoying hearing from more people and then a void. I'm feeling maybe my IF talking is too much. So, I'll make a final note on that (don't bet on it though, lol) and then get back to noting points. So, I was up from around 11:45 - 2am and ended up making up some chicken tenders. I hadn't eaten much during the day which may have been part of the problem. I think I've learned enough about IF and me to know that I will continue to extend time in between eating and working on not eating after 6pm until whenever I get hungry the next day. I will work on healthier choices and portion control. I won't force / fight for the 20+ hours. I seem to be the type of person that thinks they need to set up everything in detail but then refuse to follow the plan. Such a rebel.!.

As I noted last time, my focus needs sharpening. This past week I was better at all my objectives than over the holidays (and lost a bit) but not as focused as I was back in August/September/October. I did get to bed earlier, most of the week, stayed away from soda, except for a couple cheats, stayed away from fast food, for some of the week. I did not move more or get to decluttering/cleaning at all. At work I accomplished all my goals and then some - laser focus! Now to figure out how to keep it up once I arrive home. Any suggestions?
@CJ_Here - Your IF talk is not too much, it is an option working for you.
@ElaineJ27 - Are you by chance familiar with Flylady? Some of the things you talk about sound a lot like her. I have been following her for years but never quite got the system going.
@reszy - Wonderful to hear from you again!
@Katrin - Congratulations on the job! Hope it's what you need.
@Sport - Hi!

Good to hear from you @Cele21 . Hope your laser focus extends past work hours this week. I can understand how it can be tough after putting in a full day at work.
Had a great eating day yesterday until in the evening I was tempted and made the mistake of trying just one... which lead to the rest of the bag plus more stuff. Ugh.

I certainly didn’t want to work out this morning but I’m really glad I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, catching up on podcasts. I finally cooked my egg muffins for the week so all I have to do every morning is reheat my breakfast instead of starting my day with whatever junk I can find.
DD picked me up at 9 and we headed to St. Louis to IKEA to shop for stuff for her new house, which she closes on Friday. The kids’ beds she wants were out of stock but we both did find miscellaneous items that we need. I bought a drawer organizer for my desk drawer but got home and it’s too big. But it does fit the kitchen junk drawer so I can use the smaller containers from the kitchen in the desk.
@Cele21 , I have tried to fly with Flylady, but never really got off the ground. I do a load of laundry most days and clean my shower while I’m in it. I don’t “swish and swipe” as often as I should but more often than if I try to have a “cleaning” day. I try to take the advice that works for me from different cleaning and organizing specialists.
@CJ_Here , I’m not following IF specially, but when each of us details our struggles and victories, it motivates us all, so don’t worry about sharing too much about your plans.
@Katrin , stay safe tomorrow when your area will be inundated with people and could turn ugly. National Guardsmen have been guarding our state capitol but there has been NO activity.
Since I was gone most of today, I did not contact Fitbit support so it’s going on tomorrow’s to do list.

Thank you, @ElaineJ27 . I know your posts detailing your progress definitely helps inspire me. And, the other posts we get from our friends. I can't wait to hear from them.
Talked to a couple of sisters on our weight (really eating) struggles. Has anyone ever read something helpful from someone on what really helped them stop overeating? I'm sure it comes down to just not overeating, but nothing seems to stick. Maybe I need a patch like for smokers or something. Maybe I need to put on a rubber band and just keep snapping it every time I think of eating. Tomorrow's another day.

@CJ_Here You can never be satisfied or filled up with sugar, flour and low fiber low protein stuff. The more malt balls or M&M peanuts I eat the more I want. Have you tried adding protein powder drinks or gummy fiber supplements? I mix a handful of Fiber one cereal in with sugar free jello just before I eat it and put a little fat free whipped cream on top.. If you filled up a bit first maybe you would over eat less of calorie dense food. I definitely over eat almonds. I like the crunch and the salt. Salt doesn't have calories but I think it is a health hazard too.

Hi everyone, firstly I hope everyone is safe both from covid and the unsettling things happening in America at the moment.
Thanks for the messages of condolence, it wasn’t my uncle but my cousins uncle, but I did know him and I liked him. He is the only person I have actually known who has passed due to covid.
With regards to covid we are still doing well. We have gone 13 days without a new locally acquired case in Victoria. Prior to Christmas we had gone 70 days without a local case but when visitors from NSW entered Victoria for the festive season some brought the virus with them (NSW had a problem with someone not following isolation procedures and this caused a bit of a spike, but that is under control). When we look at the news and see what it happening around the world we can’t believe how lucky we are but we cannot take this for granted. We have quite a few covid cases in hotel quarantine a lot of these are in relation to the Australian Open Tennis tournament. Personally, I don’t think they should stage this event. Hopefully, it won’t lead to another spike.
Our cinemas opened with restrictions on numbers at the end of November. We have seen four films since December. Our first film back was “Unhinged” starring Russell Crowe, it will make you think twice and honking the horn at the driver in front! Then we saw “Freaky”, we enjoyed this comedy horror. Just after Christmas we saw “Wonder Women 1984”. Again I enjoyed this film and enjoyed that is was set in the ‘80’s. Last week we saw and Australian film “The Dry” starring Eric Bana. It was very good and had me hooked all the way through. It was a thriller set in a drought ridden town in northern Victoria.
Sherrie – have you started vaccinating people?
Elaine – has the problem with your Fitbit been fixed? You mentioned you finished a quilt and that it as your guilds mystery quilt – what does that mean? I hope your Dad enjoys his birthday. It is sad that you cannot join him on his special day. Although I have lost Dad I am thankful that the family was together right till the end.
CJ – I liked your photos. It is nice to look a snow covered trees whilst sitting in bed under the airconditioner.
Celeste – I like your idea of focusing more. I am trying to do “something” five days a week. By something I mean not regular tasks this cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. Some of the tasks are enjoyable ones like reading, doing my family tree, sorting out photos both film & digital. Others are more things that have been left but should really be done like sorting out clothes & kitchen items, shredding paperwork, going through my old VHS tapes and throwing them out.
Catherine – Your description of the day the Capitol building was stormed was scary. I hope your new job goes well. It does sound full on. I was never a risk taker. I had seven employers during my working life which was 1980 to 2015, and that includes my casual job I had whilst at school and two jobs I had whilst working in London for a year. I was employed with the same employer twice for a total of over 30 years.
Steve – so glad the hip surgery went so well. Do you have any restrictions? I am not allowed to cross my right leg over my left (right hip was replaced) and my specialist has advised me not to run, but due to my accident I still have two bad knees one of which will be replaced once I am over 60.
Well, thats about it – I hope everything goes well tomorrow for Joe Bidden’s inauguration and that all the security is not needed. Stay safe.

Today was my first time back to the gym in almost a month. I did a 30-minute treadmill workout, then three sets of ten on each of six nautilus machines. My eating has been on track and I have consumed all my water. I’m already feeling better after being on track just a couple of days.
I went grocery shopping instead of calling Fitbit support so that gets moved to tomorrow, again.
@Jan2512 , thanks for the update. I’ve been wondering about you.
When I referenced the inauguration in yesterday’s post, I guess I missed a day. I knew yesterday was Monday, but somehow moved right into Wednesday.

Overate today; and, yes, @Glenda , I totally get that empty calories causes continual eating. I know some people have been very successful with total abstinence from sugar, white flour, etc. I just haven't been willing to do that. I will continue to fight for portion control.
Great to hear from you, @Jan2512 .

Two days running for posting. It is 1:20am and I am watching the special - CBS News coverage of the Biden inauguration. I doubt if I will stay awake much longer. I've seen pictures of the area where in a pre covid world people would be standing and this year it is flags, I think it looks really nice and I believe it is to honour the Americans who have died as a result of contracting covid. If that is correct I think that is a lovely touch.
Still struggling with my eating, exercise is no problem even though I am in pain, but I still want to eat all the things that I shouldn't. I know that it is stress eating but knowing this does not help. I do feel quite run down. I think a lot of it has to do with all the things we have had to do regarding Dad's passing and being we were in lockdown for several months there were delays in getting things done (we still are waiting on several things).
01-20-2021 14:54
01-20-2021 14:54
Hey, @Jan2512 , I checked; the nearly 200,000 flags were to represent Americans unable to attend the event due to the plan to have an inclusive, yet safe event. I did spend some time today watching the event and taped to watch the rest later. Prayers that we're able to work together moving forward.
I've been short on water the last few days and eating 'weird'. My uncle passed unexpectedly (not covid); and, even though he had reached the age of 85, I'm sure it's difficult for my cousin to deal with. I guess they are planning a funeral which I'm torn if I will attend. I want to, but I'm thinking Hubby will not want me to. We will need to talk...
01-21-2021 04:15
01-21-2021 04:15
@CJ_Here - my condolences for your loss. I know it must at this time be difficult to know if you should attend the funeral. Does your cousin have a support base? Are there restrictions on the amount of people that can attend? How far is it? These are all things we have to consider more than ever.
I watched most of the inauguration, I had the telly on in my room and I'd see some then fall asleep, then watched some more. I taped it so I watched some of the bits I missed like Lady Gaga & J-Lo. I thought Bidens speech was good and I liked the poet but can't remember her name. The senator who introduced everyone I think it was Klovachar or something like that - could she be anymore excited! I have never watched an inauguration before, I was never really interested in US politics other than in an historical way until recently. I usually watch the election which I find fascinating & completely confusing. I always watch if I can the Australian Federal election & the British General elections, I understand these ones.
Eating is still way off the charts and I did not exercise today. Mum had to have a skin cancer removed from her collar bone. So, she had to have local anaesthetic. When we got home from the surgery I wanted to stay with her as she was a bit groggy. After awhile she was fine but I didn't feel like doing exercise as the gym room does not have air conditioning and the temp had got to 35 Celsius (about 95F). We have to wait two weeks for Mum to get the stitches out, the surgeon has sent it away hopefully everything will be okay.
Hope everyone is staying safe.

I feel like the old Tootsie Pop commercial that wonders how many licks it takes to get to the center. One, two, bite. I was on track two days and then did nothing yesterday. I overslept and was then groggy the entire day. I’m up and going this morning and have my to do list prepared. Temps are supposed to reach 50 this afternoon so I am planning to walk outside.
@CJ_Here , I am also sorry for your loss and the added heartache of deciding whether or not to attend a funeral. Luckily we have not had anyone close to us die during this pandemic and holidays were decided for me. All large gatherings that I might have attended were canceled, so no decision necessary.
I did not watch the inauguration. I am quite tired of politics and weary of people in general. It would be quite easy for me to become a hermit. I have never watched an inauguration and realized that was because I was always working.
Sorry to sound like “Debbie Downer” as I really am in good spirits. I have a Zoom meeting in a few minutes and then FaceTime with a friend this afternoon. I really do miss meeting her in person and our occasional girl weekends.
Time to Zoom off now! Take care.

Well, hoping adding the "Lose It" App to my phone will help me be more accountable with my food choices. While IF talks about the pros of not having to log food, etc. I feel that I abuse it's intent. I plan not to weigh now until Feb 1st to hopefully at least get back to where I was Jan 1st. Oh, the games we play.

4 pts - water/posting/logging/exercise (not too intense shoveling and some walking slow, but outside over 1/2 hr)
Learning the Lose It app (and on my laptop). Need to commit to not start playing games with the calorie counting (eating all junk food; mind games; not logging because I don't want to admit, etc)
