Chats, Challenges & Laughs 2nd home

ANSWERED

For all my Chats, Challenges & Laughs peeps! Since we can't get on the threads I thought I would start a discussion area for us. We may not be able to keep track of points standings easily but we can still talk.

I miss you!

Monday - 3

One foot in front of the other and lots of cold meds.  Explains the headache and sore throat last week.

I will check the other forum.

Just tagging you so you can find this alternate place to post (and be able to see past posts with weight, etc). Also can take a look back at a little over a year ago.

Will look through and see if I can tag anyone else. Sorry but I hate the phone app.

Thanks, Celeste, for trying to find us a home.  I'm not into the app either.  Now I'll need to figure out how to get here when I'm in fitbit (just now hit your email link).  I miss not having our group.  Hope we can get this up and running.

Hi everyone. I’ve missed you all. I hope you all are doing well. I’ll try to be more available. Is there a problem with the forum?

Fitbit turned off the Activity groups. The alternative is an App which doesn't include a lot of the functionality that had been available in the Activity groups. Jan started a closed group there but so far only 7 of us have joined that group. You have to be invited to join by a fitbit friend. I believe several of us have invited all those from the prior Chats activity group that we had as "friends" but have to imagine we're missing quite a few.

@CJ_Here when you are in your dashboard there is a Community tab. Click on that for the drop-down and it will say Discussions. Click on Discussions and in the search bar start typing Chats Challenges and by the time you hit the second L in challenges it should come up in the options. Just click on it and you will be here. Not sure you can get here from the App.

I'm back! Vegas was great! Averaged about 3.6 miles walking per day. Temps started in the 80's in the morning and hit up to almost 115 by the afternoon. Made breakfast in the room every day, had some bad food (burgers, fries) but no alcohol and chose the chicken salad option on both flights. We went first class both ways. This trip was my sister's treat all the way. I think I spent less than $150 with gambling (not much) and souvenirs. She let me leave a tip at one restaurant, I bought us ice cream bars one night and I paid for the gas to re-fill the rental car. Lots of family time with my nephew, his wife and their kids. Celebrated his youngest's 5th birthday. Saw the Bellagio fountain show twice (2 different songs/shows), went on the High Roller observation wheel, went to the MGM and Planet Hollywood casino's and our hotel was attached to the Miracle Mile Mall so we were there a lot. Hotel was gorgeous! Sis had a one bedroom suite and I had the connecting studio. Jacuzzi in every room. 24th floor with floor to ceiling windows facing Vegas Blvd. Went swimming once at the hotel and once at my nephew's house. Could have been three times but I didn't want to burn my burn. Saw the dry Hoover Dam - boy is their water table low! If/when I ever go back would like to see a show, visit Freemont Street (the original Vegas strip that you see in old movies), go to In n Out Burger, go to a more famous restaurant like Hard Rock Cafe or one of the famous chef's restaurants, maybe zip line and gamble a bit more.

Came back at the same weight I started at (only about 30 pounds heavier than I planned when I learned I was going to Vegas) - 211.8 so I'm happy and ready to continue moving (though I found out that my knees like Vegas weather much, much better than Illinois weather) and breaking the 200 mark.

Storms canceled our camping trip. Since Hubby was off today, I didn't want to abandon him by going to my sewing room so we spent the afternoon on the couch looking at sailboats online.

I checked out the blog of the author of "I Know What To Do, . . ." and I'm going to order the complete book even though I'm not sure it will help me change.

So awesome to read up on the recent posts.  So, many questions:  Do you and your hubby sail, Elaine, or is this a bucket list item or ?  I want to check up on this "I know what to do ....", too.  And, Celeste, what an adventure!  I've never been to Vegas, first class flying (maybe my ears would like it better (pain-wise) or maybe I'd tolerate for the luxury.  What an awesome sister; family.  Hubby has been to Vegas years ago so he really has no interest and I think he's scared LOL because I love to gamble (I really do very little because we limit me - I just love the excitement of possibility).  Great to hear from Steve and Brenda.  Would love to hear what's up with you guys (and everyone else!).

As far as me:  I have really been retired (not working or thinking of it) for a week now.  We have the major projects done on our retirement home and have been living here almost a month.  I now have to really dig deep in my piles of boxes and clear out / organize and then start paying attention to my flower beds, my eating and my exercise.

We decided to brave the elements and took the camper to the campground Saturday morning. We had camp set up just after 9 and had awesome weather. We took our bicycles and rode about 45 minutes Saturday and again this morning. I hadn't been on my bike because I was afraid of falling. Once I made the effort, I was surprised how comfortable I felt. Water aerobics must really be toning me up! As we were riding, I told Hubby to go on to a certain part without me as I just knew that I couldn't make it back up the hill but I went for it and the hill wasn't so bad! I need to stop letting my fears keep me from succeeding.

CJ, we actually have a 23' sailboat rotting in the back yard. I love sailing but my idea of sailing is that Hubby controls the boat and I get him drinks from the galley. Unfortunately we don't live close to a sailing lake. About 20 years ago, we had our sailboat docked in Lake Carlyle in southern Illinois, but it was about a 4-hour drive from home. Hubby's flying hobbies and family activities kept us busy so slip rent was very expensive to only use the boat two or three times a year.

I'm not even half finished with the "I Know What To Do. . ." book but so far, a pertinent message is that we imagine how wonderful everything will be once we reach our goal. As we know, each day is full of choices. We need to concentrate on how we will feel as a result of the choice we're making right now. I'll feel better for the rest of the day if I get up and exercise versus feeling sluggish and guilty if I skip it. The sweet treat may give me a sugar high for a few minutes, but the side effects of the sugar and beating myself up will last MUCH longer.

So I need to be diligent about what decisions will produce a long-lasting good feeling.

My first action now is to exercise 30 minutes each day - no excuses!

I completely agree! It’s a bit relentless knowing that each choice every time must be carefully weighed. It’s one of the reasons why after reading a book about habits that I came to understand that the earlier I make the choice, the better! If I make my lunches on the weekend, I’ll eat better all week. I’ve already decided what to have so at lunch time in Wednesday, I can’t make a bad choice - I’ve already made a good one several days earlier. If I set my alarm and get up at 6, I get a workout courtesy of yesterday’s me decision. If I had to choose at 6:30 should I or shouldn’t I, it would almost never happen!

USW - 218.0

Current starting weight - 206.2 (5/12/19)

LW - 211.8

CW - 209.4

So I'm down a bit from my pre-vacation weight which is a good thing. Son and I are going to be getting back to the gym this week (at least twice - hopefully three times) and starting today I am cutting out all soda and sticking with water, coffee, tea and an occasional juice.

I make early choices but I don't always stick to them, even if I know they are better for me. I can have a healthy option sitting in my fridge ready to go but if I have a taste for fast food when lunch rolls around, fast food usually wins.
