@A_Lurker I always smile when I read your posts. Your consistent losses and positive attitude is so inspiring. That 100 lbs lost mark is such a mental victory and pretty much right at 1 year as well! Life is about balancing so I hope you continue to find health and balance on the same page. Feeling like we are on a never ending diet will not make for long term success and I know you know that too. Congrats, take a breath and keep up the good work!

@Dominique- I have done some retail therapy lately, the newest being an indoor grill which I'm having lots of fun with. I haven't quite decided if I'm going to mark the occasion with something else. I need some new clothing, but that's something I would do anyway. For various reasons I blew off my vacation at Christmas and did other things. I feel like I need a week off. I'd actually love to do an 'at home' week off. Sounds stupid but sleep in, work out, play in the sauna and hot tub and maybe do some prep/cook stuff for the freezer. Have to see what timing would be good though. Work is a little stressful at the moment so I'm not sure how that would be received. Last year I took too many of my days one at a time. It's nice, but I'm not sure I want to do that this year.
@tamado- I genuinely suck at balance. I think I've managed to get my personal life back into balance, but there's still some work there. I need to work on the work balance next. I need to mimic some of my coworkers and leave work at the door. I'm very bad at that and it drags me down in the end. I haven't quite decided what to do about that.

@Pamala: sorry to hear about your family tragedy. I see from your profile you’ve been very active in January:
First of all, kudos for making your steps visible to all: it’s no longer the default nowadays and most people choose to hide them. You’ve had an average of 15k steps and even your lower step days were close to 10k. With this level of activity, you can eat a decent amount of food and still be in the caloric deficit necessary for your weight loss. Losing 10 kg is definitely possible: think that some people on this thread have managed to lose almost five times that amount in one year. That must have required a lot of planning, because they had to deal with issues such as metabolic adaptation, the stress caused by the very high deficit needed to achieve this loss etc. With "only" 10 kg to lose, you don’t really have to deal with these issues, especially if you are ready to do it in 6-10 months (i.e. at a very low and sustainable pace). Since you appear to have the exercising side of the equation in check, you should focus on the nutrition side of it: have you had a critical look at what and how much you are eating? do you have an issue with snacking or binging? do you use a kitchen scale to weigh at least some of the foods you’re eating and documenting their caloric content?

note: we have been in Mardi Gras season here in south Louisiana for several weeks and I am proud to say I haven't bought a King Cake yet. Lusted after 'em of course, but did not bring one home from WalMart. ("A King Cake is a brioche-style cake traditionally made throughout the State of Louisiana during the weeks prior to Mardi Gras. Usually oval in shape, the King Cake is a bakery delicacy made from a rich Danish dough (which is a sweetened yeast bread...a cross between a coffee cake and a French pastry) and covered with a poured sugar topping decorated in the traditional Mardi Gras-colored sugars of purple (symbolizing Justice), green (symbolizing Faith) and gold (symbolizing Power). This colorful topping is representative of a jeweled crown in honor of the Three Wise Men who visited the Christ Child on Epiphany (a word derived from the Greek meaning "to show"). Epiphany, also known as Twelfth Night (i.e., January 6) is when the Carnival Season officially begins.") It is delicious. Sorry for the long post but my wife reminded me that others may not know of this.

Nothing special this week. Missed a cardio session. Had 5 consecutive 177 lb weigh ins until this morning with a 176.2 which is the lowest I've been in ~10 years. Really starting to notice my waist coming in and fat on the stomach melting away.

Dominique, thank you for your thoughtful reply!
Luckily I do enjoy healthy foods. I have taken a no alcohol pledge with two girlfriends. We are dry until Easter anyway!
I like MFP. I have an underactive thyroid and medication to treat it. Still, if I eat the extra calories earned by my stepping I do not lose weight. I started logging today. Certainly work days are no problem. After dinner snacking can be a problem. Today I have saved some calories for later.
The people here are simply amazing and inspiring with their weight loss and motivation.
Thank you again..

I want to get rid of my weight targets right now. I am trying to fixate on it less. I want to live healthy and let my weight fall where it may. That said, keeping track of weight can be a barometer of health so I am not ready to ditch my scale either. I am just trying to balance my obsession with scale numbers and my desire to be healthy. I've been getting into yoga more and I hope to increase my strength through that.

Chipping away. I bought way too much take away last week. It wasn't all that bad as I made fairly healthy choices but I am trying to increase the nutrient content of my food and home cooking is better for this. This week I need to get to the shops and buy a weeks worth of groceries so the food is there. My routine has changed and I am a bit out of whack.
@Pamala Welcome back onto the wagon
@A_Lurker My favourite holiday is a holiday at home. I spend the first few days doing not much at all until I feel energised again and then I start to sort things out in the house, potter in the garden and visit friends. At the end of the week I am ready to go back to work feeling ready to take on the world. At Christmas this year I did this for three weeks - magic.

Still pretty pleased this week. I had a horrible weekend, overate and didn't get much movement in, but I still managed to lose a pound. Didn't manage to get back to the gym yet but did manage to get back on the treadmill.

@Skullclutter: good idea to include body measurements as well! I usually lose/gain 1 cm on my waistline for each 1 kg lost/gained. Congrats for your shrinkage!

Well I have not done to great these past two weeks. I have had a few personal/family struggles and it has set me back a few pounds. I am disappointed in myself but I am back in this and I am going to head back toward that pretty 5 and not toward that 7 I seen for so long..lol. I will do my best to log in at least once a day/night. It so helps me to read all the inspiring post and it helps me to post my struggles and my victories.
I am going to start my small goal to just get back on track with here and planning healthier meals. Then I will try to plan my steps again.. I haven't made my steps in a few weeks.
I know I am a rambler.. I get started and just ramble on and on...lol
MY stats

I was doing some work with my stats today as well. Some of the numbers are extrapolated as I did not take all of these measurements exactly as I went along.

The really interesting ones are body fat % lost, that's massive. I love that I only lost 16 lbs of lean mass to lose 89 lbs of fat. That 16 lbs was just there to move the 89 lbs of fat around anyway. My strength to weight ratio is way higher now and I feel stronger, not weaker.
Other ones are waist to hip ratio. Over 1 is a strong indicator for future health issues (heart, diabetes and other weight related issues)

First weigh in for February!
Start: 253 lbs
Last Week: 169.0 lbs
This Week: 169.0 lbs
Change: - 0 lbs
Total Loss: - 84 lbs
Goal : 125
So, an unusual start to the month. First time I didn't lose anything for the week since starting. Ordinarily, I'd be freaking out right now, but, happily, I know why this happened. For the month of January, most of my losses were above average. Also, I went to two birthday parties this past week and let myself eat whatever I wanted. Finally, it's time for my monthly hormonal bloating and water retention. Given all these things, no net loss is actually pretty good.
Most importantly, though, I lost fat % and inches during the past week, so I know I am still on the right track. This is why I think that alternate ways of measuring progress are so important - when your body decides to hold on to a bunch of water, you will have other means of checking on your progress.
Despite no net loss, I am adding more calories this week. Another 50.
And, this is not weigh-in related, but I completed C25k yesterday! I am now able to run for 30 minutes comfortably, even with a good amount of elevation gain (I live on top of a hill, so my straightest route is still quite hilly). I already registered for a 5k race in March. I am very excited!

@AuroraKat: it beats me that once you reach your goal (which I have no doubt you will), you will have more than halved yourself. When did you start your journey, and have you set a date for your final goal, or did you leave it open? And kudos for completing C25K!
