beyond frustrating

I'm cross-posting this across a few threads since this worked for me.  Thanks to other posters who helped me solve this!

My Charge 3 and iOS app did not give me a sleep score for the first week.  I made the following changes and now I've had a sleep score consistently for the past two weeks. Here is what I did:

1. Clear all prior data/links - I erased the Fitbit program on my desktop computer, erased the bluetooth connection from my iPhone to the Fitbit, cleared data and restarted the Fitbit using the Settings menu (Settings -> About -> Clear User Data & Reboot).  Now, I do not use the Windows 10 Fitbit app at all.

2. iPhone to Fitbit - set up a bluetooth connection to Fitbit

3. iPhone Fitbit App Settings - (i) Turn off "All-day sync" (the sync will occur when you turn on the Fitbit app); (ii) Set your Target sleep schedule (i.e., 9:00pm-6:00am).

4. Sleep Score - When I wake up, I open the app and the iPhone and Fitbit sync, download info to the app, and analyze/calculate a sleep score.  I did notice that the 1st time I turn on the app each day, it has a hard time sync'ing, but if I wait a few minutes, the sync will occur the 2nd/3rd times I open the app.

Note: When going to sleep, DO NOT turn on the "Begin Sleep Now" feature in the app.  Seems counterintuitive, but I read it in these forums and it worked.  Now I just go to sleep, and now everything works fine.

I have the same issue - my charge 3 won’t track my sleep. I’ve only had it since February and am really fed up about this. I’ve restarted it several times including yesterday, and last night it didn’t track my sleep at all. What do I do now? Thanks

Has this been resolved? Was there any update from the Fitbit developers on why the "Sleep not tracked" message keeps showing on the device even after doing all the basic troubleshooting?

No fixes have worked for me.

No it hasn’t been resolved. They just kept telling me to reset it.

@DavideFitbit  I just recently bought a Charge 3 - I had a Charge 2 that stopped working last year and I wasn’t able to replace it right away.  I did get an Apple Watch which unfortunately didn’t do what I wanted it to, so I got this Charge 3.  Like almost everyone else, it doesn’t track my sleep.  I know how to use a Fitbit since this is the 4th one I’ve had over the years.  I also can’t get the text notifications to show up on the Fitbit itself.  The phone calls and voicemails show up, but not texts.  I’ve been reading and trying everything other people have tried to no avail.  For some reason, I can’t reboot the Fitbit either - when I press and hold the “button” the screen wake and notification screen shows up and it does not reboot nor does a smiley face show on the screen.  Thank you.

Unfortunately, customer support doesn’t seem to care about this issue. All they tell me to do is reboot. This makes it work for a few days and then suddenly it stops… I’ve lost count of the times they’ve told me to reboot it now.

My Charge 3 records part of the sleep in the log, nothing on the fitbit and only shows on my fitbit after a push from the log which is incorrect. This is the 2nd Charge 3 in a month with similar issues.

My Charge3 only shows time now. 😩 it sends the info to the app but I never really had good luck with messages.

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me

I’ve tried everything. It only works if I remember to reboot it every couple of days. Pretty disappointed tbh.

What "Begin Sleep Now" feature?

To restart, swipe left a few screens until you see settings, tap, scroll down to About, then scroll down to Reboot Device. Not a very intuitive place to put it, then again, this device is not very user friendly.

Wow, I had no idea that was there. The really sad part is every single FitBit person who has suggested rebooting my device (and I've lost count how many times I've had to do this for whatever reason...) has told me explicitly that I had to plug it into my computer to reboot. Thanks!

Pretty disappointing to read through this thread, see so many people with similar issues, and nothing from FitBit besides "reboot your device" or "wear it on another wrist" or all these different settings (which I've done) The settings suggestions are great if you just need to configure the device. That isn't all that's wrong here.

My Charge 3 will randomly not track my sleep. This is not a settings or configuration issue. It will work for several nights then one night, for no apparent reason, it just doesn't. Let me be clear: I have rebooted the device several times, including when I see this issue. I have force closed and re-launched the app (I've also reinstalled the app; iPhone 11, current iOS) AND I am sleeping well the night it doesn't track. It isn't just the detailed information that is missing, ALL information is missing, even just basic stats that I've seen on nights I've been very restless. I just have a message telling me "Wear your Fitbit to bed". I have not put it on another wrist or something as silly as that suggestion, as it works fine on the wrist I wear it on for nights in a row and then just randomly doesn't track my sleep. What am I supposed to do? Put it on another wrist every night when I go to bed? First, that's stupid. Second, considering the randomness of this issue, I highly doubt that it will solve the problem.

This is ridiculous.

You need to fix your device, particularly one that is this expensive. I upgraded from a Flex to Charge 3 looking forward to the new features. What I have is a device that is proving to be unreliable. Combine this with other annoying quirks such as telling me I have 13K steps at 6:30 in the morning after I take a run(I KNOW the run isn't 13K steps) and then randomly resets itself to what I assume is the correct step count, at least it looks more reliable... Or requiring me to manually change my time zones in the app and sync to have the proper time on my device, (seriously? This is a thing in this day and age?! Ever tried to do this rushing through an international airport trying to make a connection?) and this device really doesn't live up to the hype you all put around it, or the expectations for basic functionality that I had when I bought it.

Fix. The. Device. Stop giving people excuses and bandaids.

This is so sad for us consumers. I did not spend my money for a Charge 3 to be a watch & alarm clock! The primary reasons I upgraded from a Charge 2 was to track steps & SLEEP -- because I have not slept well in 15 years & wanted to see what this device gave for sleep data. It have accurate daily readings for the first month. Now I'm in the second month of owning it, & it only records my sleep about twice a week! 😟😡

I got my Charge 3 from my mom who was part of a senior study on fitness and got to keep it after. Not knowing how to use it other than wearing and charging it (at age 83) she gave it to me. I would not consider buying one myself (the family swears by the Apple Watch) but thought I’d give the Fitbit a try. It has been a frustrating experience to say the least and especially with the sleep tracker. After a month, I may have gotten 5 sleep scores, and with an app update a few days ago, it appears to be working now. I’m still not crazy about the UI as it is not intuitive and gets out of synch even when I have my phone nearby at all times.

I would say that the GPS function for tracking distances and mapping run/walked/biked routes does work, as well as the heart rate monitor. Haven’t tried the food tracker as I’ve been using MyFitnessPal forever and don’t want to do double entry.

As others have mentioned, it’s a glorified watch with a few other functions that sometimes work and just OK when they do.
