Charge 4 - Black screen

My Charge 4 screen is black. At first it just kept vibrating when I hit the reset button. Now it won’t respond at all. I have tried plugging it into the charger and resetting the clock display as suggested in another post. When I did that I did get a line on the screen while it synced but it was still unresponsive after that. When I sync the charge 4 with the app it seems to be still accurately tracking my steps and my heart rate.

 

update: I got frustrated after trying everything with no luck. Lucky for me, I got insurance on it through Amazon when I bought it and they have already reimbursed me. A Charge 5 is in my future… but from all your responses something is definitely up. Was there a software update that went wrong for our devices?

Okay.... Mine did the same thing yesterday - August 10th, 2022. I thought it was because I accidentally dipped it in the water when I was kayaking but now that I hear yours went black same time frame.  hmmmm..... I have dried it in rice. I put it on the charger and the smiley face came on to say it was fully charged but now all it does is buzz and the screen stays black.  I cannot sync mine to my iphone anymore.

Mine did the same thing this evening after I charged it! It vibrates when I hold the button but the screen is black. And it won't connect to the app. I'm on Android.

Mine did this tonight as well. I reached out to tech support but they were unable to help…???

I put mine back in the charger connected to my computer, held the button down for at least 8 seconds, and it came back to life.  So far it is working fine.

Ok. I cleaned all sensors with isopropyl alcohol. Put it back on charge. Did the hold for 8 seconds. Nada. Put it back on charger hit the smiley face and the screen momentarily popped up showing the time it died; maybe it was just a near death experience?

 

Then back to black like Amy Winehouse. Returned to charger. Screen came on showing flashing battery. I will let it charge some more and see what happens. more good news, was able to sync to phone so there is hope.

Mine did the exact same thing, randomly, in the middle of a hike, yesterday (Aug 11, 2022). Just stopped working, no screen. I don’t know if it continued to track because I took off my Fitbit watch after I noticed it stopped working. Huge disappointment in the Charge 4! This is the second issue I’ve had with it since getting it just over a year ago (and I use it every day on purpose).

 @rebeccaosiowy  Mine does that frequently and usually changing the clock face kicks starts it back ro working,

@SparksofHealing @Fingers crossed for you. I think surely this has to be a firmware issue. It’s like it’s little brain just gets confused and can’t figure out what to do! However, I’m taking it as a sign of impending doom and starting to investigate other options.

I changed the clock face yesterday. It seemed to take s charge and work. Wore it to bed, in sleep mode. Black face, won’t wake up. 

they sent me an offer for a replacement upgrade but my premium is up next month. I think I may go to something else or ditch the technology altogether 

 

I am tired of troubleshooting stuff that should be expected to simply do what it is designed to do.

Me too! I am wondering if something to do with heat? The Fitbit was really hot when charging

Did you get any help? This just happened to me today. I tried all of the troubleshooting hints but nothing happens. I got a smile once in a while but that's it. Now it can't sync it to anything.

My charge 4 went completely blank today and won’t sync to the app so I can’t change the clock face etc. I also tried plugging into the charger and resetting but nada.. I tried cleaning the sensors also but no joy. There was a line going across the screen for approx 48 hours before this happened today. So disappointed ☹️ 

Update: after 4 visits to the online support I was sent a replacement charge 4 face (no strap or charger 😂). Anyway, the new charge 4 has an update waiting but I’m very unsure whether to update it in case something similar happens. It is too much of a coincidence that so many had issues at the same time! Hope everyone else gets sorted somehow x

It’s now charging despite saying it was fully charged earlier so think it’s sorted itself. Hope you have some luck with yours.

They had me go into the app on my phone:

> today screen

> tap your profile

> choose your device

>gallery

> choose a different clock face and install it

 

This got my screen to come back, however, I wore it to bed last night and by the morning it was black face - dead again and wouldn't sync.  I think the battery is pooched OR something about the current firmware is draining the battery. 

 

I reached out to chat. They offered me 35% off a new device. I honestly think this is the universe telling me to disconnect from screens and just go live life. 😉

Mine did the same thing yesterday.  No rhyme or reason.  I tried the suggestions in the manual but no joy here either.  Obviously something is wrong somewhere in the FitBit arena that they better fix quick!  Or else I'm on the something else...I've been through three of these things so far and something always goes wrong within a year or so.

Same here....it's been on the charger all day and buzzes when button is pushed.  App says it synced and battery is full, but I can't change the clock.
