Charge 4 - Black screen

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Charge 4 screen is black. At first it just kept vibrating when I hit the reset button. Now it won’t respond at all. I have tried plugging it into the charger and resetting the clock display as suggested in another post. When I did that I did get a line on the screen while it synced but it was still unresponsive after that. When I sync the charge 4 with the app it seems to be still accurately tracking my steps and my heart rate.

update: I got frustrated after trying everything with no luck. Lucky for me, I got insurance on it through Amazon when I bought it and they have already reimbursed me. A Charge 5 is in my future… but from all your responses something is definitely up. Was there a software update that went wrong for our devices?

Hey there. I contacted the chat support. I have done the clock face reset as recommended, 2 times now. The battery dies within two hours. I had zero issues with my charge for until last week. I found it to be a very helpful digital assistant, I love the move reminders, and I loved going for the 10,000 steps every day.

I see no reason why my battery went from fine to only working for two hours in such a short period of time and at the same time as so many others on this forum.

Support did reach back to me and offered me 35% off a new device but now I don’t trust the product because of the fact that so many others went bad at the same time. If it’s a software update issue fesse up and fix it. If it’s planned obsolescence that’s fine one less device in my life. I won’t be buying another device and then paying for premium again. I have not received an explanation as to why my device all of a sudden is not functioning when last week it was functioning beautifully. So as of this point you’ve lost my trust as a customer.

Over and out

Mine did the same yesterday (14/08/22). Came back from swimming in the sea, (it was working), then went black, thought it was no battery. Plugged it in to charge, got smilie face, then the clock screen, then when I went on to check charge, black screen. Have done the reset (hold for 8sec’s etc) and smilie face comes up again & vibrates, but still black screen 😫.

@JuanFitbit

You are missing the point. We know the steps to take ...support doesn't offer anything we don't already know.  Then they offer a discount on yet another tracker that will repeat this same cycle in another year.  Personally,  I'm tired of the Fitbit merry-go-round. I've taken the discount twice  but not again. Someone needs to figure out the reason this keeps happening and fix the problem!

Mine is the exact same

The same think happened to me yesterday. I find it really strange that this happened to so many people over the weekend.

So di I AmyinColorado.  I called Fitbit and the person didn't have a solution and had no idea this was a problem for so many people over the weekend!  What?  He referred me to their Warranty Dept who is supposedly sending me an email about it.  They better replace them for all of us!!!  Was their problem and they should fix it.  I noticed they had an update in July, so am wondering if that had something to do with it.   We will see.

Well said. I have already moved on.

I DID contact support about my black screen issue and all they offered was a discount on a new one. I feel this is a systemic problem because so many people had it at the same time. FitBit should replace them for us, not ask us to buy new ones. I realize I was out of warranty, but that shouldn't matter. Something happened somewhere in the software, the network... I don't know where but it's strange that it happened during the same time period for everyone. If Fitbit won't stand behind their product or rectify the issue, I'm not buying another one!

I wanted to add my voice to this string. On August 17 at 0505 my Charge 4 synched. Battery at 95% I didn't check my charge-4 the entire day and that evening say it was a blank screen. I tried to synch - No. I tried to reset. Just got the vibration. Sometimes the smile face. It tried to synch but wouldn't. Read this string and tried to change the clock face. Would not change. Just said downloading. I contacted support and they had me do the reset, read the articles, and try to cahnge the clock face. Then offered me the 35% discount since I was out of warranty.

This morning 8/19, I checked and battery was empty. So put it on the charger, and then tried the reset. It worked the way it is supposed to, 8 seconds, then vibrate then smiley face. I had a screen for a second. Then blank again. And reset doesn't work. When the battery was empty I could change the clock face, but still blank.

Now that there is some charge, the reset won't work. So I am also having the blank screen, battery drain fast, and not able to synch. I only wanted to add my voice 'cause FitBit did something the last couple of days that have bricked our FitBit Charge 4's. This is not right and they should undo the update they pushed, assuming it was an update.

You are exactly right. They did something this past couple of weeks and are not admitting it. When I called Support person was clueless about all the posts re: this happening. Having doubts about credibility of FitBit

Same thing happened to me. Charge 4 screen went blank and is unresponsive. iPhone app shows battery full. I ran 7 miles today and it wasn’t recorded

This happened to me today after updating the app! I tried ALL the troubleshooting and nothing. I got mine only less than *6 months ago* (replacement to the original one that broke)...! Fitbit support said I'm outside of warranty and only offered a discount to "upgrade" but the Charge 5 has no altimeter. Surprised they're not really helping out more because clearly this is a widespread issue.

I was just irritated because my 1 year warranty just expired last month and now all of a sudden this happens. They were so quick to offer the 35%discount as they played dumb saying they don't know of any issues
