Fitbit Charge 2 started acting weird last night (7/4)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Last night (7/4/17) around 10pm my fitbit charge 2 went wild. It started rolling from screen to screen, then was turning notifications on and off, and vibrating the entire time.

I tried holding down on the side button which after a few seconds would stop the chaos and get it back to the main screen, but the second I let go of the button it would start turning the notifications back on and off, on and off, on and off, vibrating all the while.

I researched the reset option but could not do it as my charge cable was at work. The best I could do at the time was let it run its course until the battery died.

Next morning I got to work, put on the charge cable, let it charge for about 20 minutes and the performed the reset. Everything seems to be back to normal for the moment.

Thought it was odd and figured I would report it. If it happens again I will update.

Fitbit Charge 2 HR with Firmware version: 22.22.53.4

Welcome to the forums @Steppertech! Wow! the behavior of your Charge 2 sounds pretty weird. Regarding the firmware version, the 22.53.4, this is the most updated version and as far as a know, the issue you just had, nothing has to do with the firmware. So let me suggest you a couple of things to avoid this from happening again:

- Restart your Charge 2

- Set up as a new device on your iOS device

Let me know how it goes!

So follow up to the charge 2 HR incident....after a reset the unit worked correctly for about 3 days. Then the screen flipped out again and completely inverted - The lettering was both backward and upside down. Was able to reset and clear this issue and the unit worked fine for another day or two. Then yesterday the screen went blank. Pushing the side button does nothing. When I put it in the charger the screen lights up with the battery icon but when I take it out of the charger, the screen goes dark again.

The thing still tracks step but does not vibrate when I hit step target.

This thing is dying a miserable death and it is not even a year old.

Not happy

I received the replacement unit and started using it. Worked fins for a little while

Unfortunately the replacement unit bluetooth feature has stopped working.

Tried performing the factory reset a few times with no success. Charged up the unit fully and tried the reset again. No success.

Can you provide an return authorization to send back this replacement unit for repair?

Thanks

Hey @Steppertech, I hope you are doin' fine! So in other words, your Charge 2 stop syncing, correct? beside the factory reset, did you try something else? I would like you to try some other tips to make it work, prior to get in touch with Support. So please review the following:

- Restart your Charge 2

- Reboot the Bluetooth on your phone

- Reboot your phone

I'm having the same issue as well.  Posted in another thread but didn't get anywhere.  Tried resetting device, restarting phone, turning bluetooth on/off, nothing works.

I am having the same problem with my Charge 2.  It continually goes through the Notification On, Notification Off and then scrolls through the menu all while vibrating continuously.  Annoying as heck.  I have reset it twice, disable bluetooth, and checked for updates.  Any other ideas?

Also having same problem, flips out scrolling through different screens and vibrating until battery dies, usually about 3 hours from fully charged. Mine is now out of warranty so can’t gwt it replaced, has Fitbit found the possible cause and a fix yet?

Another one with the same issue here.

Last weekend, it did the wild scrolling thing, which I managed to stop by rapidly pressing the side button (or possibly it just stopped anyway while I happened to be pressing the button...). The battery was ca. flat at this point, so I recharged it. The past week, the battery life has been poor - a day or two rather than the previous 5-6 days. Last night (at 4am!) it started vibrating and turning notifications on and off. I've reset it, and will see how it does.

As multiple people have had the same behaviour, it sounds like something that should be fixable rather than relying on users resetting their Fitbits.

The firmware on mine is 22.55.02.

@SteveXYZ Welcome! Thanks for being part of our Community! Sorry to hear about the erratic behavior on your Charge 2 and thank you for restarting your device. Try cleaning the button area of your tracker with compressed air at a distance. You can also try using cotton with rubbing alcohol on the surrounding area before using the compressed air.

Sadly, my Charge 2 didn't make it through the week. When I charged it on Monday, the screen corrupted showing a static random noise pattern - although it still vibrated if the button was held. Attaching to the charger and resetting made no difference. I then let the battery drain completely to try recharging and resetting again. However, their was no response when I attached the charger, it hasn't charged as far as I can see, and just has a blank screen. It remains completely unresponsive.

@Lesliec13, welcome aboard! Let me ask you this, have you tried to restart it? If not, please follow these instructions. Also, I'd like you to try to wait until the battery is completely drained and then fully charge it. If the issue persists, let me know. 😉

Ok, I tried that, and it did stop the constant vibrating/changing of my fitbit for about a week, but the heart rate monitor has not worked since then. Now the vibrating is also back.

Thanks for your reply @Lesliec13 and for trying what I suggested! So when you say that the heart rate on your Charge 2 is not working, are you saying that instead of your BPM are you getting this "--"? If so, let me suggest you to try the following:

    a. Switch HR setting to off and sync.
    b. Switch HR setting to Auto and sync.

Sounds good that it has stopped vibrating. Please try what I suggested and let me know how it goes!
