Fitbit Charge 3 - Screen Not Working

ANSWERED

Hi Everyone,

Ive had my Fitbit Charge 3 for nearly a week now and was working fine up until last night.

When I woke up this morning the screen was not working and it wasn’t syncing with the app.

One the back of the device, there is a green and red light constantly flashing.

Ive tried pressing the side buttons and I have tried putting it on charge but neither are working.

Does anyone one have any tips on what to do?

Thanks

Did it work?

1. Make sure watch is charged and synced with you cell phone or computer.

2. Make sure clip is plugged into socket and place the watch into your clip.

3. Now squeeze the watch on both sides for 10 or more seconds while the watch is still in the clip

Thanks. But I did not have a clock problem. But I will right this down in
case i run into any issues like that.

It does not seem to be a clock face problem causing this. After 40+ yrs in the electronics, computer, and telecom industries, I can safely say that this is more likely an issue of something either in the software, or in the actual firmware in the Charge 3.

It appears that changing the clock face resets a software loop that the device may be falling into, and thus restarts that portion of the software/firmware re-enabling all functions on the Charge 3.

I would assume that with a thread this long, currently over 350 entries, of folks having issues and several FitBit moderators watching this thread, that FitBit software/firmware engineers are aware of and have been working on the issue.
While I have only had the issue of being able to see only the clock face and screen swipe not working only once about 6 weeks ago when my device was only about 6 weeks old, trying to hold the sides of my fully charged Charge 3 device in the charger for 10 secs, 20 secs, and over a minute to restart it did not work for me. Changing the clock face thru the app did work for me and has for many others on this thread.

For the FitBit forum moderators:
At the very first entry of this topic it is marked as   "SOLVED"
When clicking on the "Go to solution" on that first post, it takes you to message 5 on the thread which is to hold the button while in the charging cradle.
However, as shown throughout the thread, this solution does not work for everyone.
Many including myself could only solve the issue by changing the clock face in the app.
It would seem to me that to properly mark this issue as "SOLVED" both known solutions should be listed as how to resolve this issue.
So, IMHO, either the "Go to solution" link needs to be updated to a post that contains both solutions, or the "Go to solution" link needs to point the separate solutions such as "Go to solution #1" and "Go to solution #2"

Thanks

Vicki

Good morning all!  My partner's Charge 3 just experienced the same problem for the second time now.  The first time it took the resetting procedures to finally get it to work.  This time those didn't do the trick that we could "see". From another forum I read to go onto your Fitbit account and change the clock face.  We did and bingo!... new clock face showing (you may have to tap the screen front or side button initially). We changed it back to the preferred clock and BINGO!  ... all is good in the world.  Don't know why but this simple fix worked... this time.  Good luck!

Thank you  for this. My Fitbit Charge 3 the screen went black today but still did everything normal I just couldn’t see the screen till I got home to try what they said to do. I was worried if I would have to go exchange it at the store I got it from but thankfully it worked!!

Glad to hear it worked.  The first time we had this event this suggested fix was not listed.  It took resetting via holding for way over 8 seconds to get it to work. This time.... change the clock face and then returned to the old preferred face.  Worked like a charm. Giving credit where credit is due, I read this on the Fibit Forum in another conversation regarding the same topic. Need to thank whomever there myself.

I tried "the solution" but it has not worked.  I have had the Charge 3 for about two weeks and all of a sudden the screen went blank.

Plug your fitbit into the charger and then hold down on the button on the
side until you see a smiley face come onto the screen that should reset you
fitbit 3 and should work after that

I did that, as you suggested.  At first I got a straight line across the face of the watch, so I unplugged it and tapped the watchface.  Nothing.  So I plugged it in again and pushed down on the indent.  Th smiley face came up and I was then able to see everything.
Thank you.

If your screen black on your watch,  first make sure its charged and synced with your phone or computer.  Plug in your clip into the socket then place your watch into the clip. Squeeze the side of your watch while it's still in the clip for 10 seconds or more. You should get a smiley face.

That is what I did and it worked perfectly. Before I saw the smiley face
though I saw a line across the screen like it may have restarted first.

Give the following a try --
1.  Go into Fitbit.com and change your watch face display - change the clock2.  Check your watch and see if you can't see the new watch face display3.  If yes, either leave the watch face as you see it or change it back to the previous4.  If it does not display, try a second time.'5.  If it still does not, try the other suggestions of placing it on a charger and holding the reset button for over 10 seconds (even through the buzz)6.  After that... I'm out of suggestions.  The first three steps worked for us and several others it seems.
Good luck.
