I tried downloading the Fibit app. It is asking permission for accessing my identity, contacts, location, SMS, phone, photo/media/files, camera, bluetooth information, device id and call information. I don't think any of these, except maybe bluetooth, is required for the app to work. I do not want to share so many personal details. But without the app, the device is not of much use. How can I download the app without sharing these personal information?

The following is an old thread but sheds some light on the need for certain permissions:

Thanks for the response. Is there anyway I can disable some of the permissions? Or can I do that through the website? The link says "You don't have to enter any personal information or allow access should you not want to."

I think that might be referring to the permissions within fitbit at https://www.fitbit.com/settings/privacy
I'm not sure about disabling permissions on your phone. I guess you could delete and reinstall the app and refuse permission to those you are wary of when it prompts you.

As usual, I'm about a year late arriving to this conversation.
You must accept Bluetooth, that is how your phone and Fitbit communicate with each other. You can decline the other permissions, but that will really limit what you can do with the app on your phone.
I'd decline everything except Bluetooth at first. As you see what you can do with the Fitbit application, you can always add more permissions using the system settings for applications on your phone.
