My Fitbit has been logging my steps and then taking them away the next time I look at it. Customer Support chat was useless in helping me solve this problem. If I can’t keep an accurate log of my steps, miles and calories burned I don’t want this device.

@Anna_M34 A warm welcome to our Community!
Let me help you with your missing steps. What does the account shows the following day? Does it still shows the correct amount? Are the steps permanently missing? Have you logged any activities? Do you have any third party apps linked to your Fitbit account? These two possibilities may log activities that may overwrite what your tracker has logged. Start by logging out from the Fitbit app, restart your phone and log back in and also restart your tracker following these instructions.
Let me know how it goes.
