Inspire HR and the Clip Accessory?

ANSWERED

Hello everyone!

I recently got the Inspire HR and I purchased the clip Accessory because I already have an Android Wear watch that I like for other stuff. I don't recall anywhere previously saying that the HR wasn't compatible with the clip and the user guide mentioned that Clip On/Off toggle that I had used prior to the most recent update.

Now I see that the option is gone and the marketing says that the clip is not compatible with the HR. What happened? Did I just miss this somewhere before I purchase my clip? I use the band for sleeping and workouts, but I wanted to use the clip for when I'm just walking about.

Is it truly not compatible anymore? Will readings be accurate? And if not, can I get a refund because the marketing and options on the device lead me to believe that it was compatible when I purchased?

Update— I received my clip...put my Inspire HR in it.... fits AND works perfectly.

Sounds like anyone that has a clip that was intended for the NONHr is finding that it works fine AND that it fits.  I understand that the HR is a bit taller than the nonHR, so that was a concern I had about buying a clip.  Looks like that although it may not be perfect an HR can indeed fit in the NonHR clip.  Time to shop a bit?  😉

Dear @Dan- ,

I am sorry you took offence from at fitbit form posts phrasing,

I would however, like to clarify.

I used the word "So" as an adverb,

definition = in that manner or fashion: thus: in the aforesaid state or condition: to the extent or degree indicated or suggested.

You took it as the informal adverb: Very or extremely.

I am sorry for any confusion that caused.

It seems to record the steps accurately when it is in the regular Inspire clip. But it gives you little messages that it can't track stages of sleep and heart rate.  I need to use the clip because I am allergic to nickel and the band has nickel on the fastener.  I can tolerate the band while swimming or when the fastener part is wrapped in fabric, but I don't want to constantly have to deal with keeping the nickel touching my skin.

how does your HR have a clip mode?

Well, yes and no. My kids got me this Fitbit so I could wear it swimming
and they didn't read the stuff about the clip not working. So, they bought
the Inspire clip. It fits totally fine. If I hadn't read all these posts,
I wouldn't have known the clip 'wouldn't work'. I was just reading the
posts to figure out how to set it to clip mode because the default is
'non-dominant wrist'. Then, after reading the posts, I realized that
Fitbit claims what I'm doing will not work. I had a One. I never actually
clipped it on anything. I just put it in my pocket. My kids got me this
Inspire so I could wear it while swimming. I did what I had always done
with the One and put it in my pocket protected by the clip. It records
steps accurately and seems to do as well with sleep as the One did. When I
see a red bar, I look, and sure enough, that's when I got up to go to the
bathroom. When I see a blue bar, I ask my husband if that's when he went
to bed, and, yep, he did, so I must have turned over. If he gets up to go
to the bathroom, I get a blue bar from turning over because it must wake me
up just a little bit. SO, in my pocket, in the Inspire clip to protect it,
it is working exactly like the One used to work. I can wear it swimming
and occasionally wear it at night if I wrap the nickel containing clasp so
that I don't react. I'm good with not knowing my heart rate at every
moment. I have two knee replacements so I can no longer run 5K races.
Swimming and biking just don't get my heart rate up like biking used to do.
So, I guess I feel, who cares about the heart rate? The next triathlon I
do, I will have to walk the 5K anyway. Hope this helps!

Nothing is accurate on the inspire he especially the step count. So disappointed and can’t return to the store. Why can’t you provide a fix for the step errors everyone complains about?

I bought this because 90% of the time I plan on wearing it on my wrist and using the HR features. Occasionally I want to wear a dress watch and would like to get my steps counted during that time. I was so happy that I would be able to use one device.

I have an an old Ultra that I was going to use in conjunction with my Charge 2, but they no longer support syncing with the ultra.

I’m very disappointed because the inspire feels so much better on my wrist than the charge 2.

You're fortunate your One still works.  Mine crashed several months ago.  LOVE the One and can't find a watch that fits my small wrists.  Way too clunky.  Was excited about the Inspire HR, but So want it to function for steps, etc in a clip.  Maybe Fitbit will smarten up.

My HR seems to totally function in a clip. I think perhaps that, in a
clip, the battery life is compromised. I seem to have to charge it every 2
days or so. My One was good for a week.

I bought a Fitbit inspire hr. There was no information saying it was compatible with the clip on. It would be nice if you enabled the clip on mode

I bought the Inspire HR through a work deal, not knowing that it wasn't meant for the clip - the work website was not that detailed about it, and my work price was soooo low that the HR sounded very appealing.  I thought it worked in the clip based on what I had previously read about Inspire months ago.  I never was into wrist trackers but I thought the HR would be good for exercise days.  I planned to wear the clip most of the time.

Since I bought through a work deal, it would be a major pain to return, so I bought the clip anyway and I am experimenting.  After a few days, I'm simply not sure about the accuracy.  I am still wearing my BellaBeat right now to compare, but the numbers I am getting between the two vary.  I don't know which is accurate as I have not had time to do a formal test and I am just comparing my numbers at the end of the day.

Here are my stats from the last 4 days.  I am going to continue experimenting for a little while longer.  I wasn't very happy with the large difference I got yesterday.

Hi there,

so I just want to confirm that the Inspire HR can be worn in the Inspire clip but is not that accurate in counting steps? I specifically bought the HR for the all the features and I have to wear the clip at work due to infection control protocol is this correct ?

All I know is that I wear it in the Clip the majority of the time. I have
the heart rate turned off since it wouldn't work in the clip anyway and
that saves some battery life. IF it is not totally accurate, then it is
just giving me a few more steps But, I don't think it is giving me all
THAT many more. I am comparing it to both the old Fitbit One and my
typical number of steps and also to my Health app on my phone. If we say
that the Fitbit One was accurate, and we checked it a lot (walking a known
mile, counting our steps manually, etc, then I know that my Health app on
my Iphone short changes me a little. I've looked up what people say and I
compare it to my Fitbit One and it short changes me sometimes up to 20% of
my steps. Now, part of that may be because I don't bring the phone into
the bathroom with me and stuff like that, but I also walked a known 2 miles
loop and it short changed me around 12% on my steps both compared to the
Fitbit One and compared to the known 2 miles. SO, now what about this
Inspire? Here are three typical days compared to my health app on my
phone. I am not including days that I went swimming because I put the
Inspire on the band to swim and obviously cannot take my phone into the
water.
Fitbit: 11,626 - Heath app 9,023
Fitbit: 10,682 - Health app 9,742
Fitbit: 11,025 - Health app: 10,341

That's pretty much what I was seeing with the Fitbit One.
The only reason that I might be getting different results than other people
is because I don't put the clip on my waistband. I drop the Fitbit into my
pocket of my pants. It is probably picking up every time I lift my leg to
walk and this makes it more accurate.

How do you plan to wear the Inspire? On a clip on your waistband or in
your pocket? I could try it on my waistband for a day if you want me to do
that. The reason that I don't typically do that is for the same reason
that I don't wear it on the band. I have allergies and the metal touching
my skin irritates my skin. But I could tuck a shirt into the spot and walk
around for a mile or two to let you know how accurate that is if you want
me to do that.

I wear it as a clip on both my waistband (when I have no pockets) and my top (when I have no pants) and in my pocket most of the time. I'm finding it to be pretty accurate in my random testing and my daily totals.

Hey Folks!

So its been a while since I made this post and I want everyone to heed my warnings.

So the clip is fine and is accurate enough to keep on the clip (though the wristband does seem more accurate overall. It just depends on your general movement as there doesn't seem to be consistency one way or another in regards to a set number of steps between clip vs wrist. If anything, I'm more annoyed that the Inspire HR inaccurately counts me "talking with my hands" as steps in my desk job where I haven't even stood up).

However, the warning comes in form of the fact that the HR is slightly taller than the regular Inspire. Because of this, the Clip sorta has the Inspire HR a bit weirdly placed and tight in the clip. Now you'd think that this would mean that it's more secure in the clip, but it's actually the opposite. Because its weirdly shaped slightly, it protrudes out a bit more and can snag a bit more easily than the regular Inspire.

Long story short, I lost my Inspire HR! I was out shopping in multiple stores one day and I had my HR in the clip and when I came back home, I noticed that my clip was still in tact but the HR was missing from it!

I did a lot of heavy lifting of big boxes this shopping day, and I think I lost it when I was handling a large box that was rubbing against my belt loops with the clip and HR.

I tried my best to retrace my steps to find it, but I couldn't find it. I even used the "Last Sync" time to retrace back to the relative time at which store I was in when this occurred. I unfortunately never found it.

So long story short, clip seems fine but with it being a slightly different size than the regular Inspire it seems to run the risk of being able to escape the clip more easily.

It's unfortunate because I did like the HR, especially for HR based sleep tracking. But it looks like I won't have a Fitbit again any time soon because there isn't a clip style fitbit that fits my needs at the moment. Hopefully down the road there will be.

Either that, or wait for the regular Inspire and settle for the basic sleep tracking to go on sale or something so I can make use of these now useless wristband and clip I now have.

I just bought the Inspire HR and like it, but would like the option of the clip at sometimes, like on a treadmill. I was just wondering if you have continued using the clip at times and how it is working for you.

I haven't measured differences, but other than no HR I haven't seen much difference with using it in the clip or on my wrist.

I, too, have continued to use the clip and have what SEEM to be accurate
results with it. I have actually walked along and watched my phone and I
see the steps being added on. I think it might actually be MORE accurate
than the band because the band records a lot of arm movements. I notice
that when I'm in the pool with my grandsons and throwing them one of those
little splash balls, I record a lot of steps that I don't take!

I wear mine exclusively as a clip and, as mentioned above, it seems pretty accurate.  The other day I tested it again.  I walked a mile and the steps calculated out right at around 2000 steps which (according to google) is how many steps are in a typical mile 🙂
