My Fitbit isn’t recognising any exercise. It does record active minutes and steps but no exercise at all since I’ve updated the app. I have checked my settings and reinstalled the app but still having no luck.

Is this issue planned to be fix? I'm having the same issue, I've tried the restart, changing the times of Auto-rec, turning off-Auto-rec and all the recommended 'solutions', but it is still not tracking automatically my exercise, but only logging active minutes.
There's no point on logging the exercise manually, as it is even less accurate that with the automatic mode. Tje whole point of getting a fit bit, at least for me, was to measure these activities... is there a solution or better to change devices?

I'm having the same issue and I only purchased it 10 days ago. It worked perfectly for the first week but the last few days it has completely stopped tracking exercise which is highly annoying as that is the reason I purchased it. I'm debating whether to return it and opt for a different brand/device.

If anyone is still having issues, I would recommend emailing them
My issue is (for now) rectified. They were very quick to respond too.

I just had the big firmware update this week. I wonder if that did anything for anybody. The only visible difference to ME is a new screen. "This release includes bug fixes and improvements." Could be anything! But my device has been behaving for a couple of weeks now, so I don't know if I'll see any difference. Maybe it will help some people here though.

by firmware, do you mean you updated the App from the app store? If not, how do we do the update?
oddly 2 weeks ago it recognized exercise once, then never again.

The actual device. My phone was like "hey, we're going to update your watch now. Keep it close. This will take 30 minutes." And it did. According to Release Notes, they've been rolling it out for a couple of weeks now.

Thanks. Doesn't look like the update has been pushed to me yet. Hopefully that fixes everything.
@KizKizzyKizzawhat was their proposed solution? I've had no luck contacting them.

Mine was a reset by putting it on charge and pressing the button until the smiley face appeared.
It has been a little temperamental, but on the whole it does auto recognise a majority of the time. Hopefully, the update as stated above will fully rectify it. Did you get no response from the support team? They emailed me back within the hour.

I have had my Fitbit Ionic for just over 2 years now. It doesn't do many of the things it is supposed to like play music, auto detect excercise. Sometmes it thinks i'm cycling when i'm just walking round the garden. It is ridiculously slow to sync, software updates take ages to load - sometimes days. Last week it just went into a loop where it would just show the diamond shaped logo on and off for about 2 days. I have spent ages on the internet trying to figure out how to get it to work properly and find that so many other people are having the same issues.
My advice to anyone, if its not performing exactly as advertised and you still have warranty on it then SEND IT BACK, get a full refund and treat yourself to a gym membership where they have real exercise trackers instead of a hugely expensive plastic wristband with a Fitbit logo on it. I have had better free tracker apps on my phone, and just carry it in my pocket when I'm exercising and mount it on my handlebars when I'm cycling.
It does tell the time accurately... Anyone want to buy a watch?

I bought my inspire hr because I lost my flex 2 which was brilliant and auto recognised and recorded all exercise plus sleep. After a few months the inspire didn't do the above. E mailed fitbit but no reply. Just carried on with it as it counted steps but so annoying! I've now found my flex 2 after a year and it works perfectly so I use it for swimming and walks and use the inspire at other times as it has a screen on it. Not happy though. Fitbit don't seem to be solving anything now. Hopefully they're trying to find a solution to our problems?

I intermittently experience the same issues. Its quite frustrating to have spent more than $100 on this device to be able to track time and calories...just to NOT be able to do so! And if I wanted to manually track my time I could do that for free...without the app. Why won't you just say that there is a bug and they haven't or won't fix it!

My issue is also after the latest update in 2021! I am super frustrated, and swear it’s deliberate because my Fitbit Versa is over a year old! I was told to manually track my exercise, so I tried that and manually it worked once the next two times even manually dropped my exercise!! So neither works now - SO mad!!!

Done this, it still doesn’t work!! This has happened since the last update. It only registers walks of over an hr as exercise. My 30 spin class didn’t register, nor 20mins stair climber, or anything else at all.

I'm having the same problem and the Firbit is about three weeks old. I had another one for a year before and never had any issues. Very disappointing. This is obviously a bug What are you going to do about it?

I checked and my settings are auto-rec for my elliptical. When I first got my inspire 2 it worked now it stopped auto tracking it. I re-started my fitbit.

I did all the steps above —checked auto track, restart….didn’t work so I manually logged my walking time then it just erased the active minutes 😑

Hi everybody. Thank you for your efforts, comments and tips
There can be various reasons why your activities were not recorded or recognized correctly.
E.g. The activity is not fully recognized by your movement pattern.
You paused for more than 30 seconds , so the tracker might "think" the exercise was over.
I recommend restarting your Inspire HR and setting the start times for the different activities.
FOR EXAMPLE. set it for walk to 10 minutes, run to 15, bike rides outdoors to 20 etc. and/or ignore the activities you don't use or need.
You can find the instructions for this here.
Can I change how my activities are tracked?
