Missing altimeter/floor count

Many of us posted a need to have floor counting as part of the next Alta version because we didn't want the bulky Charge. So disappointed to see a new model replace the Alta without that feature. Fitbit was able to fit altimeter in the One so should be able to fit it into the new Inspire. Looks lovely but will not buy, would not have gotten Alta if it was clear it was a step back from my One instead of step forward. Everyone beware as your feedback seems to fall on deaf ears at Fitbit.

Thank you for your message! I really liked the One also! I did get a clip for the Inspire which took care of one major concern!

Yes -I agree this seems to be a major step backwards!   I thought I had found the perfect tracker in the Inspire HR until I noticed that it kept registering "0 Floors" no matter how many times I dragged my butt up and down the steps.

I wouldn't have purchased it if I had known it didn't have an altimeter to track stairs.  I would have paid extra to have an altimeter in this smaller profile device.

A bit disappointed.

I'm confused, how does a tracker that claims to not have the ability to count floors. Nor has the option to even display a floor count show that zero floors where walked up.

@Rich_Laue huh?

Sorry - I didn’t mean the Fitbit itself. It was in the app.
Best Answer

The app will only have the option to display a floor count if a Fitbit with floor counting is connected.

I had to search the forum to discover that it did not count floors.  It should be more transparent if you are going backwards with features we have come to expect.  I wouldn't buy it without this feature.

To answer a few of your questions - it seems like many of us are going from a Fitbit that tracked floors to the Inspire. Therefore, we still see the floors on our app. Yes, we now understand that we  need to remove the former tracker to get it the floors to disappear off of the app.

As to why floor counting might might be important to some of us - well, I’m sure we each have our own reasons. I work in a five story building. I like to go up the stairs at least 3 times a day at work. Even though the stair tracker was not always accurate, it was accurate enough to differentiate between 10 flights and 15 flights. This is a daily fitness goal I set for myself.

Why would I want an Inspire instead of one of the other trackers offered by Fitbit?  Several reasons - my uniform has elastic cuffed sleeves. The Inspire’s cuff-like style does not get caught on the elastic as much as other watch-like trackers do.

Why are people expressing their opinions on this thread instead of somewhere else?  I suspect several of us landed here after googling why does the Inspire HR not track floors. After reading the thread, it is nice to find a commonality amongst other Inspire HR purchasers. While you may be unable to understand why anyone would feel as several of us do - wishing the Inspire HR had a floor tracker and purchasing it without having realized it lacked this feature - we are all human. Some of us made assumptions. Some of us were too busy or preoccupied with other things to pick up on this fact. Some of us believed we were purchasing an upgrade from previous trackers that would have only more and not less features. Whatever the reasons, we are all human. We are imperfect. No amount of external shaming will change that.

I am answering your questions with the knowledge that you, too, are human. I appreciate and thank you for the advice you have given.

Thank you very much for you kind but direct response to Rich. I did buy it without checking on my own. And the steps are also very important to me even if not 100% accurate, it was accurate enough to measure the same the floors day after day!

Actually if you do not currently have a tracker that is able to track floors the dashboard will not have a floor tile.

I can't comment on why Fitbit left it out, for me it is no big deal considering all that Fitbit does with the data is display it to ah rebate users.

Thanks for your response to Rich. You’ve expressed my feelings very well. As I’ve tried to state before, I chose the Inspire because it was the only option that included a clip. I was thinking the Inspire would be an upgrade from the One, so I was surprised to find floor count missing. My oversight. Yes, I’m human too. It’s a shame there are not other options that include the Clip. There are lots of people who do not want, or cannot use, the wrist based tracker.

I did do the research first. That is why I didn’t buy one. I was expressing that it was difficult to find that information.

I find it inexcusable that while Connected GPS does provide distance data (and it is logged no matter how many interruptions there were to the Bluetooth connections) and displays the elevation change graph, no elevation gain is tallied  (I am using a Versa Lite).

If you are willing to log inaccurate distance data from GPS, you might as well log inaccurate elevation gain data (or implement algorithms to detect suspicious sudden changes in elevation that would defy the constraints of normal physical movement). If I had known that no elevation data would be logged, I would have chosen the no-Lite Versa.

The missing floor count is extremely disappointing.  I don't need features regarding my sleep or water consumption or suggestions for healthy food, but I WAS counting on floor count as part of my steps. I assumed it would be, as it is part of that workout!!  How difficult would that have been to include it?  My old fitbit watch had it;.this was a gift to replace the old version.  Frankly, I am sorely tempted to  return this and, at this point, will not recommend it.... :(((  very very disappointed!!!  Should have noted this lack of this important feature on the box!!!

Best Answer

While it was not advertise on the box that floor count was missing, the box did not include floors in the specifications.

We can also go to the inspire page of the store.

Do yourself a favor and exchange it. I suppose we could argue it was our
own fault for not informing ourselves better, but in a ll honesty I felt
like you and could not picture a world where it wouldn't be included. If I
hadn't have lost the receipt I would have brought mine back too. Paul
