Error while registering Versa with Fitbit Wallet

I've had my Versa for a few days now and love it, I wanted to try Fitbit pay but can't even get it working.

I tapped the wallet icon in the app for the first time, it says "checking for pin" and then just brings up an error message: "Error registering Versa with Fitbit wallet".

My phone is the Note 9 - set up with biometric passwords and alphanumerical password.

My Versa is the UK version and on the back does say "FITBIT PAY". I have never registered a PIN with the device before. When I try setting up the device lock in-app, it says "checking for pin" and then "error registering with Fitbit wallet".

When I enter the wallet app in the Versa, it says to hold down the left button to make a payment. Shouldn't it say, "no card registered" or something?

I'm using Samsung Galaxy  S9+.

I am in the US. Nothing to do with banks, as it doesn't know what I am going to enter (AmEx).

I am getting the same error, over and over, after restarting my Pixel 3 and the Versa numerous times, uninstalling Wallet and reinstalling it, disabling BT, etc..

This should not be so difficult, for a product well over a year old. I'll give it another couple of days, then my FitBit Versa goes back and I am moving on.

I am facing the same issue. I got my new fitbit versa special edition yesterday and have tried to setup the fitbit pay. I contacted the customer case and they escalated my case to a higher department, but I didn't receive any reply from them. Looks like this is an issue on fitbit server side. I tried with Windows device, ipad and Google pixel 2 XL.

@Bleeh @awanderer7

Thanks for the input guys. Ah, seems Fitbit needs to get their shiz together...

I'll still try and mess around with it my way see if I get any luck.  What a shame since the rest of the freaking watch is working so well...

It's working for me now also, *after a factory reset*

Hey all, I got it working on my device ^^

I factory reset my Versa and the first thing I did when I got into the phone app interface - I went to device and "Device Lock" and it worked. So, I added my pin and FINALLY I can add a bank card.

I suggest factory resetting your Versa and performing all the typical setup procedures and before you do anything else, add a pin first!

Good luck ❤️

Yep, tried it again last night and instead of giving the error, it let me set up a pin.

It may have been a server issue on FitBit's side.

Could be a server issue, this is a pure guess however, I feel there isn't
any internet activity while it checks for a pin on the Versa or not, and
that there is just a simple bug basically in the Versa OS, but who knows.

Mind you, I occasionally come across the error every now and then when
trying to set up a card, even when there is a pin on the versa (I haven't
actually added a card yet, I just wanted to at least get to the stage of
adding a card), so yeah, I feel a patch update is in order.

P.S, I waited between 10th April UK time to 11 April UK time at around 9 to 10 AM and tried adding a card and still got the error, so I did a factory reset then it worked, so I feel its bug on the Versa.

Either way, case closed, I've accepted my own answer as a solution. Anyone needing help still, don't hesitate to post ^^

It worked finally without even resetting the device. Thanks all for your suggestions.

Mine started working this morning randomly.

Mine also just randomly worked. Didn't have to reset or anything it just all of sudden allowed me to set a PIN and add my bank card.

I had the exact same problem. Try deleting the app from your phone and reinstalling it, this worked for me as I had the app on my phone from about 1 year ago. Deleted it and reinstalled and it worked first time.
