Fitbit Versa connected GPS issues

Hi There!

My versa loses connection with my phone (nexus 5x) during bike excercise and thus shows no route on the map. I know I have gps, because Strava app shows it right.

Is this a bug in the software from the Versa?

I tried to start an excercise from fitbit app, but only walk, run or hike does gps. (no bike. why not?!?) so i choose hike.  now i have a hike excercise with hr and ps data. this this excercise shows after sync with strava in strava as hike. in strava i change hike in bike.

now i have bike excercise in strava with hr and gps. after a while just from magic, the ecercise in strava has been changed back into hike again with no hr data anymore.

I know that fitbit versa is not a swiss watch, but at least it should be working as advertised!

connected gps is not not working. People at Fitbit, can you fix this?

No, the problem still persists. I have an updated app as well as the versa. I rode my bike this morning and the connected gps was very glitchy, it kept connecting and disconnecting the whole time and my almost 24 km ride is shown as just 8km on the fitbit app, though the map shows the complete route.

Today was a first world nightmare. It worked for 500 metres. Then the Fitbit icon came up and I had to stop while it fluffed around. I started again, after waiting ages for it to connect. Argh, disconnected after another 500 metres. Stopped, got it going again but all up, reckon I lost 1.7km of tracking. This is not acceptable.

I'm in Australia so I don't have a new update, I guess I must be on the latest as this is the third I have taken back. I figure...keep taking them back, it will cost them money...eventually they will realise, or go bust. Let's hope they have the sense to get some techs in and fix these issues.

Because you got your hardware recently doesn't mean you have the latest firmware.  Some guys in Australia already have updated their firmware some days ago so I guess the rollout isn't a country by country thing.

Nothing is saying I can update firmware and I have no idea how to do this without a notification on the screen…any help would be great.

Did the fitbit latest firmware updated before you tried ?

Just follow the links in the thread pinned at top of this forum.  Either it will say an update is available or it won't - yet.

Hey there - the OS update made the GPS problem worse for me. Love the asthetics of the versa, but I'm gonna sell it and get a garmin. I use a galaxy S9+ and now to make connnected gps work I have to, from the fitbit app, unpair the watch and re-pair it. It adds 15 minutes of fiddling to every workout and I'm pissed!

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well. Smiley Happy

I appreciate some of you have replied with the information requested. For those of you who are still experiencing this issue, please note that we have just started to release a new Firmware update for the Versa. As @AlessFitbit mentioned, the update has only been released for 10% of the users, so I would like to ask you for a bit of time for when the update will be fully released. Once you're able to update your Versa, try testing connected GPS again and let us know about the results. This information will be very helpful for us.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, please keep an eye on this thread for more information about the Firmware update.

Have a great day!

What is the update number?  I updated to 2.80.1 last Friday and it didn't help the hospital issues.

@MarcoGFitbit I have another thread posted here, with screenshots comparing my charge 2 and my new versa. I have updated firmware and app I see no difference from before updating. I have only had my versa for 2 weeks. Very disapointed.

I updated and it made the problem worse. Every time I want to track a
workout via GPS, I now have to unpair and re-pair the versa via the fitbit
app on my phone. 😢😥

@Ezra_D seems a little inconvenient when you are already out on the track, trail or bike. Smiley Sad

Nope. I've finally come to terms that the Versa is a dud when it comes to tracking. First of all - the way its marketed is confusing and I think its meant to be. I would've a preferred Fitbit to market the watch to the few select phones that it does work with (most importantly GPS tracking) than give a drop down list of functions you might get with your phone. If it was clear from the start that "GPS tracking does not work on your phone" as opposed to not mentioning it at all, and adding "will track exercises" only adds to the confusion. Sucks. I feel cheated and ripped off to be honest. The app doesn't even track cycling - your're limited to running, walking and hike. So just to give you a heads up - if on the drop down list of compatible phones there is no mention of GPS tracking then avoid the Versa like the plague. All you get is heart monitor, an MP3 player for 300 songs, and notification alerts. All for $200. Do yourself a favor and just stick to your phone. It'll save you loads of frustration and money.

I have given up as well. I have had issues with the Versa/bluetooth/syncing from day 1. I worked through the moderators (which was just plain awful, useless platitudes, useless advice). I worked with the support team which was a whole lot better (hats off to them|). They ended up sending me a replacement but it was no better. This is a hardware or software issue. Maybe both. I know that I am tired of being their test lab. My solution? Move on to another brand. I have purchased multiple  FitBits, but no more. With the three trackers that I bought, I have invested $800 (taxes in). The Alta HR and Charge 2 worked. The Versas' didn't and don't.  I have a Gear watch and it works perfect. I am into this type of tech stuff so I will buy more. Just not FitBit brand. Just as a side note, there was a two week period during this past summer where the Versa worked flawlessly. Mystifying.

Updated to 2.8 (something - Oct 17th update I think) by accident.  GPS is still broken.. Fitbit should let us return this faulty product... totally disappointed on my first fitbit experience.

Hi everyone. Sorry to hear that the GPS connection issue persist with your Versa and thank you for your patience and for trying the suggested toubleshoot. One thing I could recommend is that you refresh the link between your phone and your Versa by going to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there. Restart your phone and restart your device. After this try syncing them. Also, if you are using an Android device, check that your app has the necessary permissions (settings > apps > Fitbit > permissions) and make sure bluetooth and location services (GPS) are on. If you are still having issues then feel free to let our Support team know so they can further assist you.

Let me know how it goes!

Is there any solution what is better than create link again or contact support?

Last time when i contact with support they say that you use not supported phone. So it means fitbit users must be iphone people.

Is there some fix coming or Fitbit works with new smartwatch what replace Versa soon?

Has fitbit actually looked into this? I'm new to fitbit but I really don't think I'll stick it out. It's so frustrating when trying to exercise and the watch does not work for this!!!
