Screen wake not working correctly / option to add auto dim option and always on clock face

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a few issues with the screen

1. Turning the wrist does not always wake it, i usually resort to pressing a button. Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity?

2. Touching the screen does not always wake it. I usually have to press a button

3. Notifications do not wake it. As the above dont work i have to press the button - can this be a setting to wake please...

4. The clock face cant stay on all the time, it would be great to add an option to auto dim it and remain on. I know other ffaces are available but they suck, this bring me to my next point

5. Its really hard to find a clock face that is always on without installing it - this should be more visible in the app store (sorry i know not technically related to screen)

I emailed customer services and they recommend a factory reset.

so let’s see if that works. I’ll keep you updated.

I went thru a lot with ionic. So far okay with Versa. Sorry to hear you are having problems. Versa was much easier for me to set up. Hope it works for you

Add this to the list of bugs regarding a half baked product. All these reports and nothing from the developers acknowledging it

Sad! Could it be caused by :rd party clock?

I'm in the process of resetting it right now. I tried using a fitbit clock and it still did the same thing. It's extremely buggy and after much research, there really aren't very many "great" smartwatches out and most on reddit recommend waiting a year before getting one that could potentially be "great". So I may stick with this and just keep saying in my mind that it's just a "fitness tracker" lol. I'll keep you guys updated on how the reset goes.

That's exactly how im approaching it. Too bad Fitbit is the best option
with horrible support

As a long time Pebble user, the base functionality of that device needs to be ported into the Versa. It looks and feels like a Pebble, so let's have it take the best features of the Pebble too.

@SunsetRunner no, I'm using the fitbit 'layers' clock face. Ironically I have noticed that if I use another clock face it's sometimes more responsive, I think the last one I tried was the one called bold but preferred the layers face

I agree, but I think it's a bit pricey for a fitness tracker that doesn't really work, has buggy step count, screen issues, notification issues, a severe lack of 'apps' and no real ability to ever see the time.

So it's not even a watch, let alone a smart watch.

With no support from FitBit on these issues I am leaning towards returning it... What does everyone else think?

Ok, so reformat did take care of the automatic screen issue (granted I've only played around with it for about 5 minutes) , however now I'm too nervous to change the clock face off layers clock face.

@smol84, I am also on-the-fence regarding returning the Versa, although I am having different issues.  I seem to have more stress trying to find fixes/solutions to problems for over a week that I can't even enjoy the watch.  I am trying to be positive, however, it is difficult with no responses from Fitbit here or on the Feedback Hub which looks like people post problems with no help.  I have to see the return policy at Best Buy so see how much longer I have before returning the Versa.

Hope you find a solution to your watch issue.  Have you tried different watch faces to see if your watch wakes better?  I'm using the Nothing Special watch face and no issues with the wake function.

I tried doing the facotry reset today - short answer it didn't work.

long answer - it's not worth trying. Resetting it caused so many issues, it took me all day to get it back to normal. What a nightmare! At first it wouldn't connect o bluetooth, then it wouldn't connect to wifi, then no notifications came through then it wouldn't sync! After about 10,000,000 resets its finally back to what it was before. Still no better screen

So after trying two factory resets I decided to return it as it was still **ahem**ting down and not reacting at all. I exchanged at the store. I have now have had my new Versa for three days and the screen hasn’t ‘shut down’ once in me. Must have been a problem watch.

@GillsB does your replacement watch turn the screen on every time you turn your wrist? or is that still not working? I'm trying to determine if it's a problem that can be fixed by switching to a replacement.

Replacement works fine. On rare occasion, I do need to tap it to wake it if it hasn’t woken with the flick of my wrist but my Alta used to do that sometimes.

So far so good, reset worked. I still haven't changed the watchface that is the default. It doesn't work every single time, but it works about 80% of the time now. Hope this helps:)

I, too, have been having problems w/ the auto wake feature. Quite often, it takes me several attempts at turning my wrist. sometimes ending in either hard double-tapping the watch where the strap meets it (tapping on the screen seems to do nothing most of the time), or hitting a button. Other times, though, it wakes with a fairly subtle movement - I wish I could figure out what conditions and movement are in play when this happens, but thus far, it seems elusively random. 😞

I contacted support via Chat, and was given no help whatsoever - they basically said, "Yeah, we don't want it coming on accidentally, and we can't really offer you any guidance - you'll get used to it." I left that conversation feeling a complete lack of support!

It seems that rotating my wrist more than about 60 degrees will generally trigger the wake. This is more easily accomplished from some positions (sitting up), and harder from others (lying down, riding my bike, subtly trying to check the time in never-ending meetings, etc).

I get that Fitbit is trying to conserve battery life, but this is a watch - it should tell me the time at the slightest notion that I want to know the time. Its a wireless device - I fully expect that its going to need charging. I would gladly trade off a day's worth of battery life for the ability to see the freaking time on my WATCH.

My hope would be that auto wake sensitivity could become a user setting - for those of us who want to reliably know the time, and are willing to trade away some battery life for that 'privilege' (I mean, its a WATCH right?!?), that should be an option.

I've tried all of the suggested fixes noted and while it improved somewhat still very buggy and inconsistent in the way it works. Finally have decided hell with it, returned the Versa today and will go back wearing my regular watch and my Alta.

So sad, I like my Versa, so light wait, especially with strap that comes with special edition. Screen awake is fine. So sorry to hear your problems
