Versa 3 suddenly massively overcounting steps

I've had my Versa 3 for just over a year, and yesterday it overestimated steps during a walk, then corrected itself. Today, it has done the same overestimation, but failed to correct it. When I look at the App, the steps counting during a walk seem appropriate, but the daily total is 1000s more than it should be. The total for today is apparently 30,010, but the 5 periods of walking total only 18,542 (1,376 + 1,419 + 11,787 +3,147 + 813). There's no way that I have done 13,000 incidental steps! I've tried rebooting the watch twice and restarting the app and my phone.  Maybe the 3-axis accelerometer is faulty???

I have phoned the fit bit help number twice as I have had the same problem for nearly two weeks now. The first time I was speaking to a Bot but didn't realise until part way through the conversation.

The second time, a very nice customer service rep told me that there was a known glitch that their software engineers were working on. However she could not give me any indication of when it would be sorted.

I think it's completely unacceptable that Fitbit don't put some information our way. I nearly bought a new fitbit and would have if a chance conversation let me know it was happening to others.

Hi @Nicola0302  - the current situation is explained here about the unreliable step counting bug and Stress score bug.

You are correct, nothing has been posted yet on the Fitbit Status Dashboard

My husband and I have the same problem.-

We did a 12 mile walk which I would expect to be approx 24K to 25K steps. at the end of the walk it showed 52Ksteps

It did similar last week. When it syncs to android phone (Samsung) front page shows the higher amount. Clicking a it and looking a stats ek it has a: correct looking value.

I really can't understand why it's taking so long to get this resolved. Step tracking is the primary and I would argue, largely the only function that most consumers are actively using their Fitbits for - since every other major smart watch competitor pretty much does a better job of all other functions (taking calls, texting, mobile pay, nfc, other apps, music .. you name it).

The fact that Fitbit cannot get this most basic feature to work, which is the only reason they still exist in market, is comical. Their lack of general communication, acknowledgement, and clarity as to resolution or timeline is worse though. Prove me wrong Fitbit - why not engage with this community and reply back to this thread, update your dashboard and be transparent about the issue at hand.

It's been happening to me for about a week now, I go for a 3-4 mile walk every day and when I look at my steps, they are about 50% too high. It has been correcting itself later to what I estimate my steps should be. I have had my Versa 3 for almost 2 years exactly and never had a problem until now.

Same thing here.   Just started the last 2 weeks.  Rebooted as well. Any thoughts.   It seems to finally correct itself but I want accurate counts.  I am on day 173 of hitting my goals

Exactly the same overcounting, correcting, overcounting, correcting problem being experienced with my Versa 3 for the last couple of weeks. Very frustrating. App and firmware versions all up to date.

I mentioned to my two other Versa 3 using friends, and both have also been experiencing exactly the same problem these last couple of weeks. It's clearly a widespread recently introduced Versa 3  problem.

I've a Versa 3, was about to buy the Versa 4. Will be buying another brand as I have this issue along with it not syncing with Strava app. And absolutely no support from fitbit. Have had fitbits for last 8 yrs. This will be my last one.

I had the versa 3 issue just started randomly 2 weeks ago. I saw the versa 3 was discontinued and because I've had it a few years I thought I'd get nowhere with customer service so I went ahead and bought a versa 4 🙈🙈🙈 can you guess what happened with my shiny new versa 4.....exact same issue!!! Don't bother buying another Fitbit at this stage also I bought it from an online shop who are not taking it back as it's an app issue and nothing is wrong with the watch. Waste of money 😡

Yes, this started happening to me on 22nd Feb and has happened every day since. I am notified that I have hit my goal steps when I really haven’t, I then sync to the app and it shows the correct amount. Or sometimes the amount is correct, I then sync to the app, it shows the wrong amount and then corrects its self. Very frustating!!
